Operation TRG restoration is pretty much complete. This was one of my worse used purchases. It was sold as “minor rust on the mags but everything else sweet” - after receiving it I discovered a horribly corroded barrel, bolt that was rusty and corroded, with the ejector and extractor springs 80% pure rust, a stock that had a few coats of miserable rattlecan on it, missing hardware, and yes, some trashed mags haha.
While I probably should have sent it back, it ended up being a bit of a restoration project, and this is what I ended up doing.
- replacement new takeoff 6.5cm TRG barrel
- @lumleyarms bolt handle, which I bent.
- bolt fluting to remove as much of the surface corrosion as possible
- @krg_ops Folding TRG buttstock
- full tear down, soak, blast, and fresh dark Cobalt cerakote on the metalwork.
- fresh coat of Highland Green on the forend and grips.
- replaced the extractor/ejector springs
I wish I’d taken more “before” photos - but I went straight into “fix it” mode when it arrived. While it would have been WAY easier to send it back and spend a bit more on a clean TRG, at least we bought it back from the death.

True, but only one of Ike's medals was combat-service related and that was for service along the Mexican Border during the Pancho Villa raid (with Patton.) Even his WW1 Victory medal was because he was in uniform in WW1 training Tankers... Patton took the tanks overseas. Ike stayed behind at Ft. Meade (before it was an NSA facility!)
The rest were well-earned. Eisenhower was a fantastic organizer and leader and earned the medals and foreign awards for leading the US and allies to victory with relatively few American, French, Pole, Canadian and Brit casualties in Europe. Ike was a tremendous staff officer, diplomat, etc. He had a tremendous record.
But 5 stars on his shoulders trumped a lot of fruit salad.

Ike chose to wear the three ribbons he was most proud of. I think they are the DSM, the WWII Service Medal and the Victory in Europe Medal. But it probably varied by timefreme and photo.
There have been 'discussions' about the number of awards given in modern times. But as long its earned... it's earned.
I was at a gathering in the UK a bit over a year ago. They wear their actual medals on their class A's in a straight line. Not in rows. It was interesting to see some officers and senior NCO's with ribbon bars protruding past their bicep. And earning combat medals in the UK is a much more 'involved' process than in the US. Mentioned in Dispatches is still the main form of recognition in many regiments.

LOL.
You know me just good enough to know that I don't have a lot of $ to spare, but the one thing on this planet that I do have is the ability choose is just about any firearm I could desire. For a straight up elk hunt, this was the obvious choice for ME and still is after taking 2 elk.
I'm the biggest high speed tech and whiz bang equipment whore out there but I get way more satisfaction from this rig than anything I could build or buy to use for the same job.
Literally took another batch of spaghetti sauce with elk meatballs out of the freezer last night so my honey could satisfy her Italian food bug this week.
