I’ve been having some issues sighting in my Howa 1500 in 308. It was sighted in originally but I’ve been having issues since adding a suppressor.
I’ll go through some shorts steps to get to where I currently am.

1. Had howa 1500 threaded for muzzle device. No issues
2. Direct thread mystic x suppressor. No issues
3. Added dead air muzzle brake, needed adjustment of scope.
4. Added AAC 7.62SDN, scope adjustments were near max out ( all up, all right)
5. Noticed scope mount rail was loose during shooting, took off completely, retorque’d and blue loctite and removed paint from scope rail.
6. Resight in after scope rail removal, adjusted ammo to federal target 150gr previous ammo was “Fort Scott mutinons .308” unknown grain because I through away packaging, started with FSM but switched to Federal target because of groupings. Progression of sight in was 25yd, 50yd, 100yds Target size was infinity defense c zone target

Was able to make it on target at 25,50 yards, but once at 100 it was impossible to get it close without maxing out the scope to all the way up and all the way right (get scope model/specs later)

Any ideas of what could be my issue?

My thoughts,
Messed up the barrel adding muzzle brake, twisted the barrel
Suppressor issues, try different suppressors
Scope/scope rail issue

The IR 50/50 Nationals will be held at the Fairchance Gun Club in Pa. Fairchance Gun Club is located in Smithfield , Pa.

The Nationals this year will consist of 4 Primary Classes. Sporter, #-Gun, Factory, and Unlimited.

Basically, if you have a rimfire rifle you can come and compete in at least one of the classes. There is something for everyone.

For those that have not been to Fairchance you are missing a treat. Fairchance has 50 benches and has hosted both Rimfire and centerfire matches for years.

There is ample parking and a covered cleaning area plus there is a club house with indoor cooking facilities and toilets.

At this competition you will be shooting shoulder to shoulder against all others on the same relay. No worries about which relay you draw or even what bench you draw.

Fairchance does not have a honey hole. Either end of the range or in the middle will be just as good.

The Sporter National will be on the Friday the 27th of September.

The 3-Gun and Factory Nationals will be on Saturday 28 September 2024.

The Unlimited Nationals will be on Sunday the 29th of September 2024.

There will also be an IR 50/50 2024 Champion of Champions competition. This will be the shooter with the highest overall score of the Sporter , 3-Gun and Unlimited Nationals. Trophys will be awarded for 1st place 2nd place and 3rd place.

The Sporter Nationals will consist of shooting 3 targets at 50 yards and three targets at 50 meters. There will be medals for each target winner. The Sporter Yards Champion will be the shooter with the highest 3-Target agg. at yards. The Meters champion will be the shooter with the highest 3 target agg. at meters. Both shooters will receive a trophy. In addition to these awards IR 50-/50 has what is called a 6 -Gun. This is a combination of your yards and meters scores. Trophy's will be awarded to the top 5 places in the 6 -gun. The 6-Gun applies to all classes.

One may think we have gone overboard this year on awarding trophy's but believe me if you finish in the top 5 of any of these classes you will have earned a trophy. Remember a lot of these guys from Pennsylvania are direct descendants of the guys that carried those Pennsylvania long rifles. Guys like Daniel Boone and Davy Crocket. Shooting is in their blood and remains strong today.

The 3-Gun Nationals will be on Saturday 28th of September. This will consist of shooting 3 targets at 50 yards and three targets at 50 meters. One target at each distance with the Sporter, one with the 10.5 lb. rifle, and one target with the 13.5 lb. rifle. There will be medals for each target winner. The 3-Gun yards Champion will be the shooter with the highest 3-Target agg. at yards and the shooter with the highest 3 target agg. at meters will be the 3-Gun meters Champion. Both shooters will receive a trophy.

The Factory Class Nationals will also be on Saturday and will consist of shooting 3 targets at 50 yards and three targets at 50 meters. There will be medals for each target winner. The Factory Class shooter with the highest 3 target agg. at yards will be the Factory Class Yards Champion. The shooter with the highest 3-Target agg. at meters will be the Factory Class meters Champion. Both shooters will receive a trophy.


The Unlimited Nationals will consist of shooting 3 targets at 50 yards and three targets at 50 meters. There will be medals for each target winner. The Unlimited Yards Champion will be the shooter with the highest 3-Target agg. at yards. The Meters champion will be the shooter with the highest 3 target agg. at meters. Both shooters will receive a trophy.

We are hoping for a big turnout. If you aren't a regular IR 50/50 shooter and you have a .22 LR rimfire please come on out. You can shoot in at least one of these competitions. This will be a good opportunity for those PRS shooters to compare how their rifles and ammo performs against RFBR rifles. Are you in the top 10 percent or maybe the top 1 percent. Here is your chance to find out.

I am running a Trijicon thermal IR Hunter Mark3-60mm which is good on a semi-auto but, on my short action bolt action rifle has to be set too far forward in order to cycle the bolt.

After speaking with Trijicon, I was recommended the Trijicon AC12043 mount which will fit my thermal after requesting an eye shutter that was 1.5" longer than stock. Does anyone have this mount that can confirm how much eye relief is changed with it versus a normal mount? Any concerns with the weight of my thermal?

Or, does Larue or someone else make a cantilever mount that might be better for my application?

Hi everyone, i have always used the flaslight method, confirming later using house walls at a distance to make sure the reticles of the scopes of my hunting rifles were mounted straight to gravity.

Now i moved to a new house and i can place a plumb line 20 yards away when mounting the scope. I read on forums that a 100 yards plumb line is better. Why is that? As long as i can focus the rope at 20 yards (my NF has parallax adjustments), shouldn't the process be as accurate as hanging the rope at 100 yards?

Am i missing something?

I'm sure there's a posting on this somewhere, but when I try to search the hide, I don't seem to get good results. So...the question I have for those of you that have laid hands on these guns or have a lot of experience in the area is...what are the pro's/con's for each?

Below are my initial thoughts:

On the DTA side, I love the idea of being able to change barrels, but I'm unsure of the complexity of the system overall. I have an SRS in 308 and 338, and I've had issues with the safety and with the 338 not ejecting property. Also, unsure of the quality of the plastic casing. Mind you...I still really like my SRS.

Serbu 50A - I've seen some good reviews and like the simplicity and comments about it being more accurate than barrett. Seems very solid overall, but obviously you're stuck with 50bmg.

Barrett - I like the fact that it's a quality battle proven rifle. Cost is way higher though, no changing calibers, and it sounds like accuracy is probably lower than the other two.

Thoughts?
