Help with a AR scatter gun

Not an AR guy… snagged sopmod clone upper DD upper with the smaller diameter port I think, threw it on a JP lower, rise trigger, vltor carbine length buffer (A5 I think?) whatever…only cause folks always ask for details.

It’s 10.5” with an RC2 in 5.56 in it…rifle is an absolute scatter gun ever at 50 yards off a bipod. Given, it’s just got a 3x magnifier and a exps on it, but shouldn’t it be a bit tighter than that? Talking 2” at 50 yards with about anything I can find to feed it.

I’m probably going to pull the barrel, but what are some obvious things to check for? Proper torque, nothing loose or touching the handguard, brake/mount is tight…anything else? Not sure how to trouble shoot an AR

Optic is fine, same results after I pulled the eotech and threw it on a riser as well, but everything is shrugged up.

Don’t need it to drive tacks, it’s a truck gun mainly, but anytime I let someone shoot it, they say the same, a DD should be more accurate than that. I shot a 10.5” colt in a class about a decade ago and we were on steel at 400…no way I could do that with this rifle. No Rise trigger in the photo…JP trigger there, but no change for the better when swapped.

Any suggestions appreciated.

TTG Sniper Challenge

My buddy and I are signed up to run the lite division at TTG Sniper Challenge in October. I know it’ll be here before I even realize it. Anyone have any tips for this event? He’s running his 700 AAC SD 308 and I’ll be running my 20” AR10 308 or my 16” recce (planning the AR10, but Murphy’s Law is always in effect). The recce has some good glass (PLXC) and can print moa or less with 77gr stuff. Currently planning the Federal GMM 175smk for the 308 as it’s done the best groups so far out to 200 yards, but I haven’t had the chance to stretch it out past that yet since I finished putting it together last year. I also still need a bipod and a bag for it.

Cabelas Covenant 7 vs Arken Ep5

Hey there!

I've got a cabelas covenant 7 currently living on my 308 and I'm thinking about possibly upgrading to an Arken EP-5....

HOWEVER, the more I read about the Arken, the more I second guess this move.

Has anyone on here compared the two? I don't really have any complaint with the Cabela's scope, especially being that I got it for a steal (I work PT behind the fun counter).

Anyone care to chime in on this? I could always wait and get something like a vortex pst or a razor next year - just dont want this to be a waste.

Thanks!

MPA matrix pro-II possible in Tikka action later on?

I am curious if MPA will ever make a Matrix Pro 2 for the Tikka action? I know they have the Matrix Pro 1 series for the Tikka, however, I cannot find them for sale on your Euro optics nor a lot of places. I see that they still have the regular matrix chassis for sale.

Should I just wait or search for a pro 1? I am in immediate rush or even trying to compete. I am a newbie that is just trying to have a nice chassis to learn on.

SOLD Area 419 Scope Ring Picatinny Accessory. @Bravo11BB4

I have a brand new in plastic for sale $30 shipped.

Priming rifle cases…..how do you gauge when a primer pocket is getting too large?

I currently prime cases on a Forster Co-Ax reloading press. It seems to work very nicely.

Every once in a while i can feel when seating a primer that the force required is less than many of the other cases. The case still holds the primer and it looks well seated.

I understand that at some point the primer pocket can expand and that case should be discarded but i’m not sure how best to identify this threshold. Is there a commonly employed method to measure the dimensions of the primer pocket prior to seating a new primer?

Do you discard every primed case that is starting to feel less tight?

thank you

More not snipery, but vintage

In today’s episode of not snipery but vintage.

Walked into Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville, TN yesterday afternoon. We were just passing through and did some sightseeing, also checked out Buds Guns.

Walking around the store, I always look for the “old”, or trade in section of the store. Most times I don’t find it, but SMKW had one on the back wall kinda tucked away. They had all kinds of old “pocket” style knives like Case, Old Timer, and such. Towards the end of the cabinet they’re were two little gems that caught my eye. One was a Randall #1, the other was this Colt Tuck Away.

So the basics of what I know and anyone can chime in.
Colt Tuck Away Hunter made by Barry Woods knives. This particular one is a 3rd variation, and they were all made between 1969-1973 iirc. They’re were around 2,500 of this variation made with approximately 15,300 of all variations made. This one has the original box, outer sleeve, and sheath. The sheath has never seen a belt through it, and appears as new like it shipped.
