Factory 2nd WRE primers testing

Hello all,

Today I went to the deer lease to try out some factory 2nds White River Energetics LRM primers. Overall, I am very happy with how they turned out. Originally, I was supposed to take 25 rounds of the same recipe but (but loaded with my regular Wolf LRM primers) as a control and then compare the 2nds against those. However, shit happens and I forgot the control group at home lmfao. 😂😂😂

To start off, i sent a 5 round group of Hornady 140AG.I still proceeded with sending the 25 rounds loaded with 2nds downrange. I will say though, in my ammo box, I had 4 loaded rounds with 40.7 grains of h4350 vs the test loads (and control loads) of 40.9.

In my observations, the primers worked really good. Because I didn't have the control group with me, I can't say definitively that the 2nds are hotter. However, I do believe so. In the past, my regular loads with wolf primers have never been that fast. I've also always shot them in hot tx weather. This morning, it was mid 40s when I tested, so if anything, MV should've been on the slower end (but h4350 is pretty stable though).

The bolt was never heavy or sticky to lift for the first 75%. At the top 25%, it almost stopped a bit but then like "clicked" open. Is this what the famous "clickers" are? If so, is this a sign of over pressure?

I've had sticky/heavy bolt before from hotter loads. In such instances, the bolt is stick/heavy to lift constantly throughout its entire range. This was different.

Enough! Below are the pics.

I also tested some 144 LRHT bullets with H4350 and wolf LRM. The group sizes are nothing to write home about. However, I may have to re-test. I did not realize until I was done that the cardboard those were on was swinging with the wind significantly more than the the cardboard with the 130s. This fucking sucks. So then I sent some Hornady AG 140s on the cardboard with the 130s and they grouped pretty good.

Shot these @ end of day on more sturdy cardboard.

New Mack Bros Element Action... Impressive!

Screenshot_20240125_155812_Chrome.jpg

So apparently Mack Bros snuck the Element action on their site before Shot Show. Looking at the specs and price I decided to grab one for a lightweight 308 shorty build. I also grabbed their lightweight integrated ring mounts.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this action. As far as I can tell it's the lightest stainless action and way cheaper than the other options in it's class.

Are 95 gr bullets workable in 6.5 CM?

I have a new 6.5 cm. Rem 700, 21' bbl, 8" twist. Doing a workup of handloads for shooting varmints, pigs, etc. I have some 140gr and 125 gr bullets to load up, but I have heard good things - and bad things - about loading 95 gr bullets, which I also have. I have heard that you shouldn't use them with suppressors because they aren't stable. I have heard that this twist overspins them, too.

I am hoping for some expertise on 95 gr loads, as well as some comments on safety with suppressors.

Thanks.

Ruger American Ejector Marks

So my Ruger American gen 2 is leaving ejector marks on what I would think are mild loads. The ejector seems to stick up higher than my other bolt guns (including gen 1 American) and seems pretty stiff too. I got these marks on

UPDATE WITH VELOCITY:
20” Odin Works Both 123gr hpbt:
IMR 4895 (38.8gr 2775, 39.2gr 2828)
Staball Match (39.5gr 2813, 40gr 2841, 40.5gr 2879)

I took a couple coils off the ejector spring and ran this test again. No ejector smears, although I know I am too hot with the top Staball load, which is .2gr under Hodgdon max.

Buyer flaked so putting it back up with a lower price. I have an excellent condition Tract Toric ELR 4-25x50 for sale. Comes with the box and what it came with. Glass is in great condition and no scratches. Also a set of Butler Creek Element scope caps and a cheaper throw lever which works great. Scope has a lot of elevation at 47 mils and parallax down to 15 yards so would be great on a rimfire or ELR rifle. $1180 shipped to lower 48. Will take PayPal F&F, check or money order.
