Cole-Tac.. I've got to give these folks credit

Just wanted to share a positive experience (or I should say yet another positive experience) here on the Hide with ordering from Cole-Tac & their products.

I'm really digging their operation. One of the 'neat' touches is each product that you get is personally signed by which employee made said product, I like that. I just received another order from them tonight and I think it's pretty dang cool that you can see who made the actual product you're holding.

Made in the USA (one of the things they're very proud of & should be) as well.

Anywho- just wanted to give some positive vibes to Cole-Tac.

SOLD 42mm Panerai 682 Submersible

Up for sale is my Panerai 682 in excellent condition. The Panerai 682, IMO was the last of the true 42mm submersibles, housing the Panerai in-house P.9010 movement with the incredibly practical "jump hour" function, that with which, combined with Panerai's crown system, makes for incredibly quick and simple time zone changes. Panerai later discontinued this wonderful movement, and its jump hour function in subsequent iterations of the 973 and 2973, much to the chagrin of Panerai enthusiasts. This change made the 973s and 2973s less desirable than the original 682.

This movement, along with the full stainless bezel that reminds me of an antique deep-sea helmet are what drew me to this timepiece originally. Comes with everything you see here and the factory rubber strap is in excellent condition. The bezel is tight, with great feel and clicks and Panerai's patented strap change system on the 682 make strap changes as simple as pressing a button on the case. There is quite a lot of technology built into this very wearable Panerai. Watch is in great shape with no significant marks to speak of. As expected from an all brushed/polished steel watch and bezel, light swirls/scratching can be visible at the right lighting and angles. I have tried to capture those in bezel photos near 12 and 4 o'clock. The blue and the orange Horus straps are not included, but are just show to display the 682's versatility.

Asking $6450 Shipped in CONUS.

60 Boston Restaurant Workers Quit After IRS Flags False Tax Data

This has been going on for decades! Like the employer didn't know they were illegal aliens.....

Nearly 60 workers of a Boston-area bakery and restaurant chain have quit their job after the IRS flagged their tax filings as possibly fraudulent.

The Tatte chain said that the employees left their jobs after the IRS contacted them about “discrepancies” in the employee paperwork that showed names, social security numbers, and home addresses not matching to the agency’s records. The discrepancies are often seen when migrants use fake social security numbers or steal the identities of Americans in order to get work in the U.S.

The Boston Globe followed up by interviewing some of those who quit the restaurant chain and found that many were illegal migrants.

Tatte told the employees flagged by the IRS that they would have several days to provide proper identification and tax information, and if they did not, Tatte “will consider you to have voluntarily resigned from your position.”

Company spokesperson Diana Pisciotta said Tatte “cares deeply about its team members and provides multiple opportunities for our team to correct data that the government has informed us is incorrect.”

“It is particularly disheartening to inform valued, hard-working members of our team that by law they cannot remain with Tatte if they cannot correct the issue,” Pisciotta added. “While supporting our employees is a priority, we must comply with the law.”

To avoid accusations of “racism,” Tatte even offered to pay for immigration lawyers for the employees who quit over the IRS fraud alert, and offered a fund of $4,000 to help them pay expenses.

Still, Tatte’s move to discharge employees who have received IRS “Social Security no-match” letters is unusual because until now, most employers simply ignore the no-match notices and continue employing the problematic employees. Tatte’s decision to heed the letters and dismiss the employees could signal that business are starting to take the IRS notices more seriously as Donald Trump prepares to take office in Washington.

Snow Day Tinkering

So, it's a snow day in my neck of the woods. Instead of playing in the snow I decided to play in the reloading room. A while back I picked up some blaster ammo. This is Federal 36 gr. HP ammo. I decided to break out my Waltz die and see how the HP stem worked. This is what I ended up with:

Now I just have to wait till the weather warms up a bit and see how it performs. At advertised 1260 fps quiet isn't the goal.

Need Help Setting up a Tripod W/Thermal & Display

See attached photo. I have this FLIR, it has a 640 core however the display is really small and hard for me to see so I rarely use it. I have finally rigged up a little battery powered monitor and an analog to digital converter so I can run the thermal image on the display. Id like to set the entire thing up on a small ball head tripod and maybe mount the monitor / battery / converter onto one of the legs, or maybe get one of those articulating arms?

Both the FLIR and the monitor have tripod holes in the bottom. The converter requires a small amount of power, it can either be powered by drawing from the monitor's USB out, or I have discovered I can use a little battery / power hub to power it.

Would really like to be able to keep most of the stuff attached to the tripod so I can just grab the whole rig and strap it to my backpack.

MDT ACC vs Xlr envy

Looking to try a chassis and have it narrowed down to these 2. I have felt both at comps but haven’t had much time with them or shot with them. Both felt comfortable. I preferred the thumb shelf on the Xlr over the thin ridge of the ACC.

Is there any feedback people can provide between these 2?

I’m currently running KRG bravos and they have served me well but want to try something new with more adjustments.

Accessories AK parts lot: Midwest rail, 5.56 mags, Saiga stocks $80

Midwest quad rail. Installed, might have seen one range trip, sold the gun it was on.

Two 5.56 mags. Don't remember who makes them, maybe AK Unity? I took a little off the top of one to see if I could make it work in my Saiga and realized it wasn't going to work so I stopped. Shouldn't affect function. Plastic stock came from a Saiga sporter that now has an Enfield No. 4 stock 😂

$80 shipped which is way less than the rail alone is worth, I just want it gone.

Your thoughts on "Common Core" (i.e. Teaching philosophy)

Recently, I was offered an additional "tutoring" gig (I already have an active one). It seems like it's a pretty nice gig. I get to tutor K-9 students in Math (Arithmetic and basic Algebra) and English/Language Arts (ELA). It pays $20.00/hr and I'm able to bill roughly 12-15+ hours or work per week. The pay is weekly. The sessions are all "on-line" via Zoom, so I can do it remotely. The kids log in at their respective schools, and I log in from my desk at home. That's all the "good news."

The bad news is, the "curricula" (pre-designed by the school districts and the company brokering between the districts and the companies supplying the tutors - like mine) are all based on the original "common core" standard of education. All the lessons are planned and spec'ed out, and adherence to those specs (by the tutors) is "mandatory" per contractual agreements between the school districts, the broker company and and the tutor supplier companies (like mine). There are Powerpoint presentations (slide decks) for each lesson/session. And, trust me when I tell you, if you value your childrens' education at all, they'll make you want to hurl.... just as they make me want to hurl, having to teach to them. They are totally pejorative to the students. They "dumb down" the concepts being taught to the absolute "lowest common denominator" of student, regardless of how inteligent the students actually are. And, not only do they insult my inteligence as a tutor, they insult the inteligence of the students themselves. It's like they're saying, "Well, we think you are all so stupid that we have to teach you at this very basic level." And, it also seems to facilitate an "indoctrination" into an underlying socalist agenda (i.e. be dependent on the govt).

I always believe in tutoring my students precisely to their specific levels and tailoring my lessons accordingly. I don't believe in teaching to a dumb downed slide deck. I believe in having conversations with my kids, retaining their attentiont that way (a slide deck won't do that) and resolving issues dynamically as they arise. I believe in having conversations with the students... getting to know what they're thinking, and adjusting my teaching to that. I also like to think my students are a lot more intelligent than perceived (by both the School district and others). And I teach to that level. Where needed I suppliment with remedial teaching to get them back up to speed. And I do it in a way that's not "condescending," not "pejorative." If the ratings I get as a tutor from the students themselves are any indication, I'm doing pretty well.

But now, I fact a dilema. My company is beginning to enforce compliance with the broker company and the districts to teach via the slide decks. In other words, to teach "common core." It's not that I can't do it. I surely can. It's just that it makes me sick, having to do it. And I now have a decision to make as to whether ot not to continue with this gig and teach common core per their standards, or resign the gig and try to find something else. I really don't want to resign. The gig pays pretty well. And I can surely use the $$$. And the HR Genralist at my company that hired me has been wonderfully nice in all of this (this is a W-2 position, BTW not an Independent Contractor). But I think she is just as bound by the contract requirements as I am. She tells me they're looking for new districts to add, but I don't think they're looking all that hard, because I think both the districts and (especially) the broker company actually like common core and support it. I don't see them marketing to school districts in states/areas that don't support common coare (the South, etc.). I know my home state of Florida dumped Common Core in favor of their own std. Narry a district like that on the broker company's radar.

So, what say you? What is your position on the "common core" standard? And, if you dislike it, is it worth the loss in $$$ to resign if they require that you teach it, or would you still want to earn the $$$ and teach it anyway? LIkewise, would you let your child be taught in that standard or would you seek to home school your child? I know I'd home school, if I had children. And, shoud I ever hit the Zillion $ lottery, my focus will be a foundation that facilitates the home schooling of children that want that choice and the freedom of independent teaching and thought. Not some govt. standard.

What say you?

204 Ruger Proof CF barrel tested

Barrel is a 20” 1 in 10 twist, has 50 rounds on it up to now. Did a quick break in. Sharing this because I couldn’t find anything on it.
Only running factory loads at the time to break in and collect brass. It seemed to favor the 36 gr prairie enemy a little more breaking it in but they are nonexistent right now so I loaded up on Hornady’s 40gr vmax ammo. The 10 shot group was the other day, no cold bore warm up or anything just laid down 10 shots in a row. Mirage got terrible last 2 shots.
