Carbon Barrels

I need to know about problems issues with Carbon wrapped barrels when used in precision rifle matches

Background. I have been having a blast with my Vudoo. I choose an ultra lightweight MPA chassis, a lightweight (Kukri contour) with an all up weight including bipod of 12 pounds one ounce. The rimfire rifle balances decently, and is steady as a rock when shooting. All up weight with bipod is 12 pounds one ounce.

As I now oft complain, my left shoulder has said after 76 years, I’ve had enough. Right shoulder is fine and I can still use my left arm, I’m simply am not as able to work with my 19 pound 6GT’s like I can shoot and handle the .22 Vudoo. I cannot hold the centerfire rifles steady, but have no issues holding the Vudoo steady. (6GT Heavy buttstock, heavy MTU barrel, no serious weight in the center. Vudoo, light barrel, light buttstock, 700 weight action, keeping a large percentage of the weight in center. Center mass wins in most cases).

ref, I have sailed all my life. To keep a sailboat from “hobby horsing” we keep weight out of the ends.

So, as an experiment I would like to rebuild one of my two GT’s as a lightweight (relatively speaking, 12 to 13 pounds all up with scope and bipod) to see if it would emulate the success I am having with the Vudoo.

Final example, (don’t laugh fellas). This past weekend I shot 30% with the GT in the Saturday match. I shot 72.5% with the Vudoo in the Sunday match. Both matches were ‘finals’ for the year and were supposed to be a serious level of difficulty. (Addendum, that would be hitting the target on 30% of shots taken and the same, hitting the target 72.5% of shots taken)

So, to repeat the question, nothing has been spent, nothing is cast in stone, but the Vudoo is working and the GT’s are not working as well. Would a Carbon Fiber barrel work over long strings of shots?

Paradigm Carbon barrels?

Who here has experience with these barrels?

It’s between one of these 0.308 1:9t or a PVA carbon 1:10 twist for a 30-06 build.

Very little info on these barrels. From what I can find, rock creek liners and they can be cut to any length you wish.

I’m tempted to go with PVA because they’re more known, but the paradigm is in stock and I could have it next week. Price is the same for either.

Any help is appreciated!

Rifle Scopes Which ACOG?

Hi guys,
Due to a worsening astigmatism in my dominant eye only, I was told to try out an ACOG. I plan to run one on my KAC SR15 for mostly shooting inside of 200 yards. My HK will sport my NF ATACR 1-8. I’m planning on going with the 1.5 ACOG, but I’m wondering if I should go with the compact size or the full size (TA44 or TA45)? The SR15 I want to shoot with is 16”. Thanks.

Steiner STR MIL reticle

I am looking for drawings of the Steiner STR MIL reticle showing subtension, line thickness in mils, etc. I cannot find it anywhere on the web and the current Steiner Reticle Guide (https://www.steiner-optics.com/resources/reticle-guide) does not include this reticle. This reticle is available in the H6Xi line of scopes and if there is a drawing floating out there I sure can't find it. Does anyone have this that they can share? Thanks!

Hawke Scope Opinions

I'm currently looking at a used hunting rifle I'm thinking of buying. It's in really great shape, but it comes with a Hawke Scope. The scope is solid and seems to have good glass. From what I'm reading it's a big UK brand scope they sell mostly in Europe. I've not seen one before so I'm wondering what people think. Is it on par with say a Leupold or Vortex or more a lower end kind of scope?

Thanks

Spitfire HD Gen II 5x Prism Scope - eye relief question

I’ve mounted a Spitfire HD Gen II 5x Prism Scope on an AR using a Picatinny rail and an American Defense quick-release mount. It’s currently set on the furthest back notch, but I find I have to move my head unnaturally far forward to eliminate the scope shadow. It’s not a major issue, but it would be great to achieve a more natural position without having to press so far forward on the stock.

The image is crisp and clear, so overall I’m happy with it. I’m just wondering if there’s a simple solution to adjust for this—or if it’s common for people to switch out certain optics because of this type of issue.

I’m new to the rifle world, so I appreciate any insights!

Thanks!
