Do I need a small base die to save my brass? 6.5CM

I’m looking for some advice for some heavy bolt lift and extraction issues in a new barrel using brass previously fired from my old barrel. Based on all my testing and research thus far I’m thinking a small base die might be the answer to keep this brass going?

I’m getting a click at the top of the heavy bolt lift and after 3-4 shots the brass won’t extract. I have to get it out with a cleaning rod. I just got some 1x fired Lapua brass and it appears to be fine when checking it in the chamber after resizing. Here is a video.

I have always full length resized with a Redding Type S die. I'm certain the shoulder is bumping .002-.003. I have even tried bumping the shoulder back .005 and still experience the same problems.

I don't think the issue is over pressure. I'm running 42.0 H4350gr with 130gr ELD-Ms seating .020 off the lands. Here is a pic of some fired cases.

It looks like I'm getting some significant friction near the case head trying to extract the brass.

Rifle Scopes What scopes have all these features?

I am not familiar with every scope on the market. I have been searching butnthought I would also ask here. I am looking for a new scope that has as many of these features as possible:

-FFP/MRAD (obviously).
-Magnification minimum 5x, maximum 20x (preferably higher).
-Minimum fous distance of 25 yards (preferably 10 yards).
-Max weight around 36oz (preferably lighter)
-Low profile turrets that aren't too tall (will obscure rangefinder screen.)
-Locking turrets (locking or capped windage a must.)
-Illuminated reticle.
-34mm tube (35 or 36mm seems to limits mounting options.)
-About $2500 USD max price (could go a bit higher or look for a used one.)

The reticle itself should have:

-Christmas tree design (preferably a bit narrow and not really a grid.)
-Elevation numbers close to the center and lots of them.
-Minimum 4 mil of "hold under" marks above the cross hair (for use with weapon mounted LRF and holding under for close range targets at matches.)
-Markings not overly thin.
-Staggered intermediate hash marks between full mil marks.

This is the probably the best reticle I have seen for my uses, the ZCO MPCT3X:
img_1_1755127122363.jpg

These aren’t all deal breakers necessarily but I would really prefer to have all those features. Some scopes that almost meet the criteria are:

-Razor G3 (too heavy, I already own one)
-Leupold Mk5 (only 2 mil hold under with PR2 and no illumination. Also 35mm.)
-ZCO 527 (near perfect except for the price and 36mm tube.)
-Bushnell DMR3 (reticles are a bit lacking. No illumination. DMR-IIi I have is not the brightest or sharpest but not a disaster)
-Nightforce NX8 (heard complaints about the eyebox. 30mm tube.)
-Nightforce ATACR (ocular housing rotates. A bit pricey. Not crazy about the reticles.)

I may be incorrect about some of these features as that was just off the top of my head.

Thanks in advance.

Movie Theater Nobody 2

Saw it this afternoon while my wife’s still out of town…have to take advantage of that “Class B Bachelor” status when able, LoL.

Bottom line: Good movie…not great, but good. I’d say it was very good, but not compared to the first one which was way better IMHO, so just “good” for me. They tried too hard to force the other characters into the plot, and it just felt, well, too forced.

Still, it was very entertaining and definitely worth seeing on the big screen at least once.

—————

Off topic, but it cracked me up when they had an ad for Bulleit Bourbon immediately after a PSA for drunk driving! Everyone in the theater literally LoL’d! :ROFLMAO:

7Prc not grouping

good day. so i got a custom rifle built with a heller arms EV5 26 inch barrel in 7prc.
got about 40 rounds in it now. have tried 3 different types of ammo that i could lay my hands onto.
hornady precision hunter 175gr, hornady outfitter 160gr, and hornady eld match 180gr.

shot all 3 boxes twice now. hornady precision hunter grouping 1.09 or worse, hornady 160 outfitter grouping .689 or worse, hornady 180gr eld match 1.91 or worse 10 shot groups. any suggestions. the only thing is for sure is that the outfitter rounds dont always chamber. have 6 out of a box of 20 that would not chamber.
second pic is of the second day.

any suggestions would help!!
thanks

Firearms 6mm arc upper

Looking to sell my 6mm arc upper as I think a 22 arc will work better for me with thermal coyotes.

Complete centurion upper: centurion 18” rifle +1 6 arc barrel, threaded 5/8-24. Pinned gas block from centurion. Has their 15” rail. Centurion upper. Geissele charging handle. I’d prefer to keep the Sandcutter unless somebody wants the entire setup. $1000 shipped for the upper (I’ll include the APA cherry bastard), OMR 4” arca rail and the pic rail that’s attached, note that the mlok screws had to be shorted a bit). Add 280 if you want the Sandcutter and bolt.

Will include hornady dies and 100+ starline brass. This is a hammer with Varget and 90 sierra TGKs.

If you’d like the complete setup

The lower is a BCM lower, rifle length buffer tube, rifle buffer, magpul prs gen 3, radian safety, has magpul oversized magazine release, radian bolt release. I can either include the literally new triggertech diamond for $300 or a Geissele SDC for $150. Not selling the lower without the upper.

Upper, no bcg, lower, no trigger (add $ for trigger if you want one of the two) $1450 shipped

Complete rifle no trigger (add $ for trigger you want) $1700.

I can include the trijicon tenmile 3-18 mil ffp with the vortex mount for $1350.

Only trade would be for a quality bolt gun in 6 arc, 22 arc, or 22 creedmoor. Horizon comes to mind.

I can potentially add $ for the right trade

Mixing brass lots, same headstamp.

Hey all,

I am curious, who mixes lots of brass with the same headstamp to load "match" or precision stuff with good success?

My OCD tells me not to do it but I'm not even sure it's a big deal. I bought some 308 lapua brass off the hide at a good deal. What I didn't realize was that I would be getting 2 or 3 different lots. Which is fine, it was a good deal, but it would make life easier if I could just mix all and not worry.

I also have my 6.5CM peterson brass which is 2 lots. I have them separate but same thing. If I could mix all and not notice any accuracy degradation, it would make things easier.

Thanks,

Serg

Accessories Bog Deathgrip Tripod Ball Head Kit

****UPDATE***

****I have been working on a printed bushing to replace the aluminum one for a few reasons. Main one being availability, I can print these like any of my other items so sourcing is not an issue. I can also pass the cost savings on to you guys and a little more weight reduction. I will be working on a printed adapter plate in the future also. I wanted to make sure the integrity and strength were both still very sound so I adjusted materials and design until I got it right. ***** There will be nothing new to installation, a dab of Loctite is still highly recommended on the ball head bolt. Just snug it up good, no need to over tighten. There are some variances in the BOG castings so you may hear a slight pop as the lip in the bushing pops over the casting but its fine and expected on some as I keep the fit fairly snug on the bushing.

I have also added an eyebolt addition you can use to hang equipment from. When you purchase it just let me know if you want the eye bolt or regular bolt.

For installation of the eyebolt you will install the bushing then slide the eye bolt up through and tighten fully into the ball head until it bottoms out. Then loosen the eye bolt 1 full turn and lock the nut down while holding the eye bolt from turning if necessary.

I have made up a few ball head conversion kits for the Bog Deathgrip Tripod. I tried to keep the price down as low as possible while maintaining good quality equivalent to the Bog Tripod.

- Prices shipped TYD.
- *** Continually making them as requested. I will inform you of any excessive backlog.
- There are 5 options.

The ball head is rated at 33 lbs and has 360 degree rotation (lockable) base in addition to the ball head and the ball head is lockable and adjustable for tension. This will accept arca-swiss style devices including the numerous picatinny to arca and such items on the market.

To install you would have to remove the one bolt holding the deathgrip to the tripod. Once you do this the bearings and bushings (you will not need these any longer) will come out. You will end up with a hollow casting as seen in the images. Once you have this you can insert the bushing from the bottom, then insert the new bolt through the bushing and install the ball head onto it. I recommend a dab of Loctite on the bolt before installation.

If you want to use the deathgrip that you just removed you need the kit with the adapter plate. This plate with the 4 supplied screws will attach to the deathgrip head and can then be locked into the arca-swiss ball head.

This entire assembly weighs ~15oz, you will be removing ~8oz to install. So in total you will add about 8 oz to your setup, plus any additional items you decide to add.

Bog Deathgrip Tripod Ball head kit and adapter plate (full kit) $110: This will come with the ball head, bushing and 3/8-16 bolt to attach the ball head. In addition this will come with the adapter plate to attach to the deathgrip that can then be placed into the arca-swiss ball head.
Bog Deathgrip Tripod Ball head kit only $95: This will come with the ball head, bushing and 3/8-16 bolt to attach the ball head.
Bog Deathgrip Bushing, Bolt and Adapter Plate Only $55: This will come with the bushing for the tripod, The 3/8-16 bolt for most ballheads and the adapter plate to attach the deathgrip to Arca-Swiss. This is for if you have your own ballhead but want to be able to attach the deathgrip to it if desired.
Bog Deathgrip Adapter Plate and Screws Only $45: This will come with the adapter plate and 4 screws only.
Bog Deathgrip Bushing and Bolt Only $40: This will com with the bushing and bolt only. This option would be great for someone with their own ballhead and no desire to be able to reattach the deathgrip.

I also have small plates with the standard 1/4-20 screw. If you have any accessories that would benefit from a custom printed fixture that would allow you to attach it to an Arca-Swiss plate, which could then be put on a tripod or something else please send me a PM and we can figure something out.

Member Link Up Anyone traveling from SF / Bay Area East?

Anyone traveling from the Bay Area East with a truck or Van on I-70, I-80, or US40 through Colorado or Wyoming?

There's some Land Cruiser Seats (First and second row) that I'd like to purchase from a guy in Richmond, which is 30-minutes North of the Bay Area.

I'm in NW Colorado, and can compensate you some for your time and fuel if you have room to pick up and haul the seats for me.

Thanks!

Seating question

Hello all.

When I go to seat bullets I’m noticing a substantial difference in the amount of force required to seat them. I measured all the case necks and they’re all the same. I’m using forster collet dies with a rock chucker press. I know the best way is to use an electronic press with expanding mandrel dies, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon. I lube all my cases necks with imperial dry neck lube, and am wondering if varying amounts of that can make a difference in the amount of force required to seat the bullets, or if it isn’t a factor at all. I know one of the keys to accuracy is consistent neck tension, and I’m afraid that’s where my hang up is with extreme accuracy. I’m currently shooting just under 1 MOA, but know that several of my guns are capable of more than that.
