Sold

I have an extra barrel that came with an Axiom I bought. Hawk Hill blank, Marksman contour, 1.254" and 0.873", threaded 5/8-24. I don't have a bore scope but knowing the previous owner, it hasn’t been abused. They have been used in PRS comps so may have some scuffs/scratches. The member who bought the top barrel was pleased on how well it shot once installed.

Bottom barrel; 26" .308 Win 1/10 twist has 513 rounds on it, chambered by Gradous, $300 shipped FIRM

Hornady Bullet Comparator and OAL Tool Measures over .050" too short

IMG_9603.JPG
I went through a process of trying to find my lands, building some dummy cartridges the other night, by turning up the bullet seating die micrometer tool, and testing each one in the gun (locking down the bolt). I tested the overall length of the cartridge before and after inserting into the chamber and locking down the bolt. I did this until I reached the point at which a cartridge became shorter by locking down the bolt, signifying it had jammed into the lands and locking down the bolt forced the bullet deeper into the case. I created a model cartridge that I felt best represented the OAL that would insert into the barrel and just touch the lands.

There were a few cartridges that did not repeat the overall length, after seating the bullet into the case with the micrometer die, and the overall length was as much as .015" short, when measuring the OAL. I figured this method could not account for the variation in the tips of the bullets or something, and I wanted to do better, so I bought the Hornady OAL Gauge Tool and the Bullet Comparator with a modified case for my 6.5CM.

I set everything up and inserted the modified case/OAL tool into the barrel and locked it down, and then pulled the cartridge out and measure it (to the 0give this time) with the Bullet Comparator tool. I then compared that cartridge to my model cartridge, and the Hornady modified case cartridge was .053" shorter than my model case. Whether I measure the OAL of the cartridge (head to tip) or I use Bullet Comparator Tool in my calipers, I still end up .050" shorter with the Hornady tools than I do with my model cartridge I created to just touch the lands.

What could be happening here?

LaserWorks LE-032 Riflescope Mounted Rangefinder

Has anybody tried this scope mounted LRF? Youtube videos are positive. Warranty is very limited (one year, and for manufacturing defects only).

Amazonia link:

Intended use is on a crossbow and a lightweight 30-06 hunting rifle with heavy recoil.

Main concerns:
Does it survive heavy recoil?
Does it last more than a year?
Does the warranty mean anything?

Feedback from anybody who has tried it would be greatly appreciated!

Rifle Scopes VCOG: 1x6 vs 1x8

Can anyone touch on the improvements between the VCOG 1-6x vs the VCOG 1-8x? My main point of contention is the brightness settings. The 1-8x has more settings but, is the highest setting on the 1-8 the same brightness level as the highest setting on the 1-6?

Anyone who has experience with one or both of the optics please guide me in the right direction. I'm looking to purchase one or the other for my 12.5" do it all, go to "pistol". I've decided on the VCOG because of the robustness of the scope and the AA battery life among other reasons. Also, I'd love to see some more pictures of the mil/mrad reticles for both if anyone has some handy.

Any help will be much appreciated.

How smoothly should my resized cases load into the chamber with bolt ejector removed?

I just went through a process to find the lands in my barrel, by disassembling my Savage bolt, and removing the spring loaded ejector. During this process, I realized my resized cases would not allow the bolt to fall smoothly, without interference, when testing to see if the bullet was touching the lands.

I solved that issue with some new Lapua brass, but it got me looking more closely as to whether or not my Forster full length resizing die (with interchangeable neck bushings) was actually doing anything. I put some once-shot Federal brass in the die and it doesn't appear to be resizing the body of the case at all. It is making the neck smaller and lengthening the case though.

The dimensions on the case at the top of the body, near the shoulder, and the dimensions of the case at the "web", near the case head, appear unchanged. These dimensions are still larger than the specs the Hornady book suggests the case should be. I can still get the case to load, by turning the bolt down, but it is not interference free.

Should my die be resizing the brass to the book specs or smaller, to better fit in the chamber, or do I want a pretty tight fit with the cases?
