Musings

Recently at ALTUS I was connecting with a silhouette at 1039 yards. (According to my range finder). Tricking a ballistic calculator to give me midrange trajectories, I noted that the bullet traveled 70 yards between 112.22 and 112.25 inches above line of sight with a maximum height of 112.59 inches. (Between 540 and 610 yards)

Knowing the effects of negative G’s (having done so while piloting to watch my pencil float) I am wondering if the time when the bullet sets at the top of its trajectory and starts downward towards the flight if it experienced loss of weight, (weightlessness) without obviously loss of mass.

Maybe not a comparison, but felines finish their jump just past the top of the apogee to have a negative weight and thus silent landing.

Note to trick a ballistic calculator to give midrange trajectories, set the range you are shooting to the “zero range”.

SOLD Bergara Premier ridgeback 6.5CM

Original owner with under 100 rounds down the barrel.
Shoots factory 140 match very well and my Berger 140 loads are under .5”

I bedded the action with acraglass as it wasn’t shooting like I wanted out of the box and that instantly made a difference in this rifle.
Some of the factory paint chipped off in the process and I just went over it with some dark gray paint. You can see it in the pictures.

I added the following:
MDT 20 moa rail ($70)
Trigger tech special 2 stage flat trigger ($250)
Sawtooth rifles arca rail made for the ridgeback. ($109)

Bipod not included. Pricing well below what I paid for just the rifle new. Great rig but I hardly use it and not worth it to just sit in the safe.

$1550 shipped to your ffl.

No trades.

Bore guide since Mike Lucas is no longer making them?

Mike got back to me and is unfortunately no longer making bore guides at this point in time. What else is out there I should grab? I've got an Impact Precision 737r on order and a barrel chambered in 6.5mm CM, and a Pro-Shot cleaning rod. (22-26/42").

I've seen the 21st Century: http://www.xxicsi.com/bore-guide.html
Sinclair models: https://www.sinclairintl.com/gun-cleaning/rod-guides-bore-guides/index.htm
I've had a Possum Hollow but he no longer responds email or answers the phone and his VM is full (I'm over it, no thanks on these)

Not sure what to go with for my setup, so any suggestions would be welcome.

Gunsmithing Removing AR-10 Handguard: Revisited

The handguard is on TIGHT on my Armalite AR-10. I'm beginning to wonder if the barrel nut and handguard are a single unit. I'll call Glen at Armalite Monday.

The guard seems to be all aluminum.

The upper receiver block I received is not doing the job and I'm afraid that if I tighten it enough, I'll damage the upper.

So it looks as though I need two tools: a reaction rod (as recommended by several people), and a bigger wrench.

I looked for alternatives to the $200 Geissele rod and found these two (click to view):

Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod .308

AR-10 308 Reaction Bar and Barrel Vice Block Rod Tool, Blue

While I like the price on the second one, I think it's aluminum and not up for heavy stress. The one from Midwest Industries appears to be the better choice.

Thoughts?

What wrench is recommended? The strap wrench I have slips when I really apply force.

I appreciate your recommendations for the two tools. I would prefer to not have to send the assembly back to the gunsmith who built this.

SOLD WTS: Seekins HIT Rifle with choice of barrel(s). 0 Rounds Thru.

Selling my Seekins HIT and the barrels / bolt faces with it.

Will post additional pictures shortly just wanted to get the post up.

I bought this with plans to customer a stock for it, which changed to buying the new Seekins M3 stock for it. Unfortunately, Seekins has informed me the old HIT action does not drop into the new M3 stock, so I’m just going to sell it. I was also informed my barrels are compatible with the new M3 action though so those can be used either way. That being said I’d rather sell it all and just move to a different platform.

Rifle purchased last summer from EuroOptic. Has installed the HIT PRO ARCA rail and NVM bridge. Also has A419 bolt knob adapter and American Rifle Company round bolt knob. Trigger was swapped out for a Geissele Super 700 but a single stage trigger tech will be included. Hard to find Geissele trigger can be included for an additional $300.

Asking $1,500 with choice of 1 Seekins Factory barrel and the appropriate bolt face. Additional barrels $500 each unless otherwise noted.

I have the following barrels for it, all brand new I fired.

24” 308 win M24
24” 6.5 CM M24
24” 6 CM M24

7wsm rebarrel options

I have a m70 in 7wsm and was kicking around the idea of rebarreling as it’s at the end of its life. I was wondering what cartridge options I had to choose from. I was hoping the 6.5 SAUM was a choice as adg is making brass for it and I love the adg brass I’ve been running in my 300 wm. But looking forward to hearing my options. Hopefully I have this in the correct forum.
