Maggie’s CAF C47 "Thats All Brother"

CAF had a show in Dallas this weekend. I got to take a flight on "Thats All Brother" and check out some other great planes.
Lot of history in this C47. They had two others there as well. One is being Turned into a AC47 (Spooky). here are a few pictures of the trip. This C47 made the trip to Normandy this past June for the 80th Anniversary.
Highlight of the flight was when a P51 pulled up on our right side for a photo op. Lot of great folks involved with CAF and a wealth of Knowledge. Lot of younger men and women of all walks of life sharing the history of the people, equipment and planes they flew.
Here's a link to the story on Thats All Brother. https://thatsallbrother.org/

Distance to lands changes with different bullets

Hey all,

I'll start by saying I'm months into reloading so still fairly new. However, I think I've done well overall. There is one particular rifle that has me confused and could use your help. I'm trying to reload for it and want to determine distance to lands so I know where that is and I don't start loading for it by jamming bullets. I generally back off 15 to 25 thou as a start. Details of rifle are below:

Howa mini 1500
6.5 grendel
Virgin starline brass
123 Amax
123 SST

I have stripped the bolt and confirmed that it falls freely both on itself and on a virgin piece of brass, as I am using. I've seated a 123sst little by little and place it on my bolt and send it in to battery to see where it free falls. Then I did the same with a 123Amax.

123sst free falls right at 1.739
123Amax free falls right at 1.7285

Then I tried hornady factory ammo loaded with a 123BTHP. I was able to find two that measure right at 1.683 and one let's the bolt free fall and the other doesn't.

I thought the factory ammo was probably because the cases are not consistent and some brass pieces are fatter than others. However, all my virgin starline has been good fitting and the problem is still present with those.

I'm using hornady guages.
Any tips?

Athlon Ares 2.5-15x Overkill for Hunting?

Before covid ruined everything, I was excited about shooting and hunting, so I bought a lot of junk. I got myself a Tikka T3x in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I thought I would hunt deer with it, which has never happened. I am trying to get back on track and do whatever has to be done in order to get some kind of hunting done, whether it's deer, pigs, or bears. I'll pay a guide. I don't care.

When I got this thing, I was all excited about mrad tactical reticles, because II had just learned to use one. I decided I wanted one for the rifle. I didn't want excessive minimum magnification, because I wanted a reasonably large field of view at the low end. I didn't think I needed total high-end snob glass. At the time, my decision was to get an Athlon ARES BTR GEN2 HD 2.5-15×50 APRS5 FFP IR MIL, which, obviously, goes from 2.5x to 15x.

Is this a crazy scope to use for hunting? It's on the bulky side. My wild guess is that I'll never shoot at any animal over 200 yards away.

WTB Eotech clip IR or quality thermal

Looking for a collumated thermal clip on unit for a duty rifle, I have some nice stuff to trade, and will add cash on top. I’ve got a sig virtus mcx 11.5” 556, also have a 9” 300 blackout barrel if you’d rather go that route, have a mega matched lower and monolithic upper with a 20” noveske match barrel in 6.5 creedmoor that was built right and will flat out shoot, a Daniel Defense 10.3” mk18 upper, a North American Arms ranger 2 in 22/22mag, and a kimber 84m police tactical bolt action. Please let me know if you have something along those lines or possibly a reap ir. Not really wanting to spend over $6000

Top Tier Scope for 6.4# .300 PRC

I am looking for a top tier piece of glass to complete my custom 6.4# .300 PRC built on a Defiance AnTi action. This rifle will primarily be used for backpack elk hunting in the mountains. I just purchased a ZCO 5-27 intending to put it on this rifle. While the scope is awesome, it is way too big and heavy. I'm going to return it and try something else. I am currently waffling between a NX8 4-32 or an S&B PMII 3-20. The NX8 is lighter, cheaper, and has better magnification range. Presumably, the S&B has better glass and has a smaller form factor. Is it worth an extra 4 ounces for the S&B? They likely both have bomb proof reliability. Which of those scopes would the Hide recommend and what other options should I be looking at? Is the March 4.5-28 a viable alternative? My ideal list of requirements is below.

Weight- <32 ounces
Ideal mag range- 5-25x
FFP
Target turrets with capped/ lockable windage
Illumination is required
Reticle that allows me to hold for wind

Firearms 22NXS 20” AR upper, dies, ammo, brass

Selling my 20” 22NXS upper and all related stuff. Built this for coyotes out west but recently moved to the south and have no use for this now. Upper details as followed.

Vltor upper reciever
Ritch’s precision 20” light weight barrel threaded 5/8”
Aero adjustable gas block
Odin works 15” handguard
Short pic mount for bipod.
Rcbs 22 nosler dies and giraurd trim
Die.
97 pieces of brass/ 83 are loaded. 1x fired brass (I believe 50 are new but don’t remember for sure so let’s call it all 1x fired)
That puts round count at 117 ( again, I’m pretty sure 50 are new brass so round count may be 67)

Will not come with bolt, charging handle, arca mount or CB suppressor brake.

Performance is awesome. The load I ran was 3566fps with a 55gn Sierra game king. Accuracy was around 3/4”- 1” using a 2-10 scope.

If shipping I will pull the loaded ammo down to ship. If in person will leave loaded.

$550 shipped CONUS if local would do $500. I will be driving through Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico 10/3-10/14 and could meet if that works for anyone.

G7 BC for American Eagle 120gr OTM?

Weird question but I am getting American Eagle 120gr OTM (SKU: AE65CRD2) for a good price. It shoots surprisingly well for cheap plinking ammo (3 shot groups usually half MOA) other than the POI being about 0.2 mrad high.

American Eagle/Federal lists a G1 BC of 0.421. I can not seem to find specifically what bullet is used in this load. I assumed Sierra but I can't find a 120 OTM.

Does anyone know exactly what bullet this is and/or an accurate G7 BC or the best substitute with Litz model available on AB?

Down the rabbit hole

Wondering if I should be chasing SD or grouping. I thought I had my load down the second visit to the range. Gun grouped well at 100 and 200 yards (for me) However, when I input the data into excel, a less performing load had a measurably better SD. Should I keep tinkering with it or call 69 grains good enough.

7mm Rem mag, 180 grain Bergers, hunting VLD.
