Tikka T3 vs Howa 1500(reliability)

I'm looking to compare the reliability(not fit and finish) of the Howa 1500 and Tikka T3 actions.

After handling both at Sportsman's I can see that the Tikka fit and finish was superior to the Howa. I totally get why people think that. However, I felt that the action on the Howa was EXTREMELY adequate. Especially for my needs.

The only thing would make me consider saving up for the Tikka would be if folks believe that the Tikka is vastly superior to the Howa, in reliability.

I put reliability above fit and finish, even though they correlate...to a point. At some point, good enough is good enough. If the Howa and Tikka are comparable reliability wise, I'd go Howa...but if Tikka reliability is much better, I guess I'll start saving.

I have seen a few posts regarding some problems with Howa's but it sounds like most folks are saying that most of them are good, and if you get a good one, its a great shooter. Howa's sub MOA guarantee and lifetime warranty sound very appealing for a $450 barreled action that I see regularly shooting sub .75 MOA on this forum.

Thanks for your help!

Night Vision COTI optimal mode/settings for detection hunting

I have been using my COTI on patrol and outline modes with factory setting for a few months. I thought I remember reading somewhere that others have improved performance with some adjustments to factory settings.

What settings have you found work best for detection without a lot of “noise” for coyote hunting? I have been scanning with 1531s + COTI. After detection, I have a laser + PVS-24 with a Henny 3-12x56 and a 3 degree Kiji for ID.

Thanks!

FOID Card Renewal in Illinois

My previous FOID card was active from 3/1/2010 to 3/1/2020. Knowing that it would expire March 1, I went online on the IL State Police website to renew in mid November '19. Website would not allow me to renew stating that I had to wait until I was within the 90-day window before expiration. I went back online December 6 and submitted application and payment. My card expired March 1 and I have still not received the replacement, and the website still shows my application as under review. I called my state representative to express my concerns and spoke with a member of his staff. Apparently this issue is fairly common. This is B.S. I went through almost the same thing last year renewing my CCW.

Tikka T3 223 barrel heat?

I have a CTR in 6.5CM, which I've had for maybe 5-6 years now and absolutely love it. I get 9-10 shots before barrel heats up. I'm 1000+ rounds into the barrel and it's still crazy accurate.

I am looking at a 223 T3 lite as a starter gun for my son and something I can shoot at prairie dogs where we hunt out in west Texas every year. It's not fast and furious - we normally see a few dozen over the course of a day. But I had a T3 lite in 308 years ago and it was 3 shots before barrel heat would start throwing rounds outside of my .75"-1" group. Is the 223 likely to hold up to a few more rounds before it gets to that point? Maybe 5-6 at least? Or are my expectations too high?

Anyone have a floorless tipi tent?

I have been working to get equipped to take my young kids tent camping. Nothing real crazy but ideally somewhere off the beaten path. I don't currently own a tent so that is gonna need to be a priority to make this happen.

I will try to stick to the point here. I have been shopping different tent options from 2 person backpacking tents to canvas wall tents. I would like to have something light I could use for a backcountry hunting trip but also want a tent to take my family of 4 in the summer. I was starting to think I was gona need a few different tents. Them I stumbled upon the floorless tipi.

A fairly large one is roughly 5 pounds. It would fit 4 of us easily in the summer and with a wood stove maybe me and my boy could give it a try in the winter.

Is a tipi the perfect do it all tent or should I continue looking at getting multiple tents?

Open to any suggestions

SOLD Daniel Defense Delta 5 Pro - 20” .308 w/ DD Side Folding Hinge, DD Reaction Rod, & Classified Defense Barrel Wrench

*SOLD PENDING FUNDS*

I am selling a Daniel Defense Delta 5 Pro - 20” .308; it is OD green and includes the expensive DD Side Folding Hinge, DD Extended Picatinny Base, DD Reaction Rod, & a beefy Classified Defense Barrel Wrench. The DD Extended Base is new in the package and hasn’t been installed; the reaction rod and barrel wrench are new as well. It is in excellent condition with exactly 535 rounds of factory match ammunition through it; I am going a different direction with a custom build. Don’t miss out on this complete turnkey package that is ready to go out of the box. The Classified Defense Barrel Wrench is very strong and much beefier than than the option DD includes with their barrels. I will include the excellent MDT Grip, the original Area 419 Hellfire Brake, one Magpul AICS 10 round magazine, and the Wiebad Cheek Pad. *The optics, bipod, and suppressor are not included. I threw away the original pistol grip; it was junk.*

I shot it yesterday, 11/15/23, and got the following results with Hornady 168gr AMAX TAP Precision; I got impressive velocity readings of 2650 fps from an 11 shot group.

I would like to get $2150 shipped for the entire package; Venmo & PayPal F&F works best for me, but I could also accept USPS Money Orders. I Do not want to separate anything from the package since I would want it all in the chance it doesn’t sell. Thanks in advance for looking; please let me know if you have any questions.

Kyle

Nightforce NX8 and ATACR 10% off sale at Euro Optic

Euro Optic has all of the NX8’s and many of the ATACR’s listed at 10% off through the end of the month. These aren’t “demo” or “open box” but a Nightforce sale. The individual listings say they pay the sales tax and have free 2 day shipping as well.

This is a good time to snag one because they almost never go on sale.
