Long story short......the wife and I may get to be parents again, kind of.

Wife's cousin died leaving behind a fatherless 18 month old. He had full custody. The mother would rather snort powder or heat it in a spoon than take care of this little one.

    Meet Emberly.....

Awesome work. (y) You saved a precious little girl from a potentially disastrous environment that would lead to nothing but sadness. Always remember that your fellow brothers on the Hide are here to support you whenever you need it.

As soon as I read the title of this post, I braced myself for the room to get suddenly dusty again.

shes a gem, and you a stud, good luck to you all

You and your wife are awesome! You will be rewarded with unconditional love from that beautiful little girl.

I had the opportunity to take in 3 of my nephews when my sister passed and her husband went back to prison. Unfortunately they were 15-17 years old and already on meth and complete retards so I did what was best. I went to court and emancipated them, dropped them off at the bus station and gave them $1000.00 each and a very short sink or swim talk and drove off. Dillon is the only one that Ive seen since ( 6 years ago) but that's because hes been fighting cancer and has been living with my mom during his treatment.

You didn't ask but I'm feeling charitable.

PM me your Paypal and I'll be in for a small gift toward diapers.

Not much mind you but I better support those that do the right thing in any way I can.

Thank you, Sir! We are good at the moment but the offer is most appreciated.

Hey, and that is a great idea, pmclaine! PM me your paypal, as well, and I will send something, too. As I am certainly not wealthy, either, it won't be a lot. But, this ole Jarhead has a real soft spot for kids and those who do right by them.

Thank you so much for the offer but we have her covered for the time being.

Also, the extended family on the father's side is very involved for now. We have more than we will need for quite some time.

Thanks to all for the kind words. This precious little girl will melt your heart in an instant.

    Good job!

My children were adopted at 12 and 18 months. They are currently six and 11. My wife and I are old enough that their classmates sometimes think we are their grandparents. Having kids later in life is one of the best things we ever did. They definitely keep us young.

That's good stuff right there. Good on you, Sir.

Pur son is soon to be 30 so it has been a long time since we had a little one around.

My kids are 10 and 12.

My wife looks good still but I think they have to tell friends "Yes, The old guy is my father"

    Good on you !!!

That's an incredible move on you an your's part. Wish you all nothing but the best. This has win written all over it. I see families destroyed, of their own accord, all the time in Court and of course Jail. The kids ALWAYS suffer one way or the other. And then there's "Placements" in the system, which is NEVER good, but sometimes better than where they were.

You are most definitely to be commended. Great Job !!!

Here’s to you Alabusa. Stepping up in in that beautiful little girl’s time of need, especially after already raising your own kids. You sir are my hero for the day...and you’ll be that little girl’s hero for life.

And yes, she is a sweetie.

    Good on you.....

If the mother has "signed away" her parental rights your journey will be much more......easy....I guess.

    If not.....well hang on.

No matter what you might search out a lawyer that has experience in this area....if it crosses state lines, more complex again.

Good luck, and you are good folks.

And just so you get a taste of where I am coming from....my son is adopted....a product of an illegal alien and a 15 yr old girl......he was in his 20. We had to try to find his ass in mexico before everything was final....the girl was ok....she gave him up, knew what was best for her kid......but dad was a real bit of work.

To the point of we had to make sure that no photos of my boy appeared anywhere online, in any publications, his SS# got changed (you should look into that as well based on what you say about mom....sucks being 2 and having 30k in credit card debt)

    Good luck again.

Just make sure mom doesn’t show up in a couple of years and undo all the good work and love you invested.

Courts will always screw over the kid for mom... no matter what kind of domestic disaster she is.

So suggest covering your buttocks and look forward to a good future for the angelic little one.

    Just ‘sayin.

    Sirhr

The best parents in the world are the ones who want to be parents. Good on you and your wife to step up in Emberly’s time of need.

It won’t always be easy, and a lot has changed in the “raising of a child” from 30 years ago. You can always PM me if you need a refresher crash course in little ones while you surf through your 50’s!!!!

Good on you and yours! If there is ANYTHING you need, just ask this crew. Rough bunch as you already know, but big hearts. A very noble deed and a huge undertaking.

Yes. That is what a man does.

A rarer breed these days than most of us like to admit.

    Prayers continuing.

Humbled by you and your wife’s selflessness. Excellent example of the love we should have in our hearts.

There is always a possibility but I would never want to be thought of as taking advantage of the people here.

I think we are in good shape but not sure what the legal fees will be. I will update this thread from time to time as things progress.

Not remotely possible. We are a group who gets all fired up about helping a brother out.
Then make that a brother who with his wife is literally saving a little girls life from God only knows what could have been in store, and we have this on a scale few can comprehend.

There is nothing more precious than the trusting love and innocence of a small child. Truly a gift from above that I am sure you didn't ask for. And took with a loving and grateful heart.

    Update......

We are working on all the legalities of getting full custody of Emberly and then adoption. There goes my new gun funds but a man has to have priorities.

Look down the road....new person to get started shooting.....she will be ready before you can blink twice.

You can't take advantage of what is freely given with no expectations or limitations. We all judge for ourselves and if we personally decide that the cause and individual are worthy than there are neither.
I have made up my mind.

    Just say the word.
