AutoTrickler V4

I have both RL33 and RL50 and a V4, and some time, if you tell me what to do. ETA, mine has a tip on it, so maybe not as helpful.

I reserved mine 8/2 from CE products for the scale/trickler combo & just got final payment notification a few minutes ago.

Yea what is hard to understand? Unless you are autistic people reading understand what is being asked.

Most people who preordered did not prepay. They got an email to pay, pay and then the product ships.

So how long from the time you got notified to pay , IE the item is ready to be shipped, until delivery.

I honestly never contemplated what other people did. I paid when I ordered, then the thing came when it did.

It depends.

I have a spreadsheet full of reservations. Every week or so I go down the list and send payment requests for the next couple of week's worth of reservations which have orders associated but are not paid yet. I have to estimate how many people are going to pay quickly and send payment requests up to some point. When we are actually closing up boxes we need enough people in the list who have paid to send them to. So I need to have sent enough payment requests to cover that batch. However for every payment request I send that doesn't get shipped right away, that person might get annoyed that they paid right away but it didn't ship right away.

We are shipping a batch of V4 tomorrow. Those will go to reservations from early August. I have not sent any payment requests for those unpaid orders yet because I've been just focused on research for the last couple of days. It's getting late today so I will probably send those out tomorrow morning and then we'll ship to paid orders plus whoever has paid by 3pm when UPS comes to take the boxes. The next batch will probably be next Thursday if I had to guess so anyone who pays after 3pm would ship then.

Of course every week is different. You can always email me to ask for some information. We will answer all the emails as best we can but we try our best to balance things to reduce the number of emails coming in.

The person who normally cleans and packs V4 has been out sick all week so that's not helping things either. Laura is working overtime.

In a few weeks we will have shipped all reservations and we can move to just managing one order list so it will become a lot easier.

he answered your question and said PAID...... I was given an option at check out to pay now or receive an email prior to shipping to pay....I paid. Paid March 12th same day reserved and Received Dec 22. Shipping notification was Dec 16th.

I paid July 7 I believe give a day or two and received Mar 10

For anyone who'd like to test out some improvement in the short term, there is a way. It would be nice to get some feedback at this stage.

Use a powder with kernels under 0.04 grains. H4350 or smaller. Calibrate twice in a row. Make sure it's close to 0.20 GN/s. Then open the V4 settings page and hold down on the Close button (long press). That will open more advanced controls. Set "high speed time" and "low speed time" all the way to the left (1.5 seconds). Set "target weight" to 0.04.

The first cycle will probably overshoot but give it 5 cycles to settle in. Then if it's still overshooting like crazy increase the times to 1.7 and see if that fixes it. Try a real target weight, but also try dispensing 2.0 grains repeatedly which is a more focused test case that only uses the small tube.

You can always reset to defaults by changing the main screen's speed slider.

I don't expect perfection but it might give you a sense of where we are going - it should be nearly twice as fast.

@adamjmac I ran the test and results look promising; here's my observations.

Using H4350 I calibrated twice; 0.21gn and 0.19gn.
I'm using the Jhor tip
I started with stock setting 5
Made the changes to 1.5 high/low speed time.
Set a charge weight of 38.0gn.

I started out first getting huge overthrows. The overthrows were from the large tube and the small tube never moved. I turned Large Tube "Target Weight" to 2.00gn to try to spin down the large tube sooner. That had a positive effect but I was still getting overthrows from the large tube which was throwing right up to or past the target weight. 6 out of 10 throws where overthrows (after 5 throw-away runs to let the machine settle in.) Overthrow weights were from 38.08 to 38.40.

I changed the high/low speed time to 1.7 sec. First throw overthrew by 1 kernel; 38.04. The next 10 throws were accurate (+/- 0.02gn.) Throws were fast but I think the large tube could still throw a bit closer than these settings. And sometimes the small tube would run slow looking for the last few kernels which I feel is the culprit of the occasionally extra long throw.

If there was a minimum speed slider for the small tube I think that might be a helpful addition.

I spend some time messing around with settings sorta blindly not really knowing what all the settings do. I was pretty happy with this setting, it seemed to throw sorta close with the large tube but still not consistent. And the small tube never got stuck creeping looking for the last 2 or 3 kernels.

Thanks Tyler, a few points
- Large tube tuning is separate and wouldn't be any different than before. If it's overshooting, adjust transition weight first.
- The tip has a huge effect on the small tube flow patterns and requires a different strategy altogether for tuning. If you are testing these numbers below 2.0 you should remove the tip.
- Minimum speed is not in the app now but you are right it is the solution to the long waiting time for the last kernel.

It's good to hear that it wasn't overshooting at 1.7, and surprised that was the case while using the tip.

I'll give it a try this evening w/ H4895. Appreciate the info. I was getting a little flustered with the long cycle times.

Noob question here - just received the V4 last week, played with it a bit and fairly easy to operate! First autotrickler for me, never owned the V3 or previous. My question is - can a powder setting be saved for future use, or does it need to be calibrated to each powder for each use? Just wondering if the app saves it, or if once you guys get settings dialed you just write them down and manually set in “advanced” each time you use a given powder. Thanks in advance

You only need to calibrate it if using a different powder. Otherwise, it is saved... Even if you turn the machine off.

I think his question is if it is just a sticky calibration memory like you described or if can you actually save different powder profiles to recall whenever down the road without calibration.

ahh. I believe you can only save one calibration at a time. You cannot manually enter calibration numbers.

Folks, I'm going to cease selling tips for the time being until I know more on the software update and if it will or won't work after it happens. I don't want to continue to sell something that might become useless for a lack of better terms.

Yes this was the basis of my question, thanks gents for clarification!

I have the jthor tip and tried the hidden settings with limited success. Definitely got the times down, but had trouble with throw consistency.

I took the tip off, recalibrated and settled on the settings below. Definitely brought the drop speeds down - from about 13 seconds to 9-10. And a single overthow in 50 pours.

30.7 gr H4895

I'm going to give this a try, thanks for posting this Adam, I'm definitely interested in faster, but it's not critical for me. To be clear, I haven't been unsatisfied with my results thus far. What I've discovered is the time it takes the v4 to fill the cup is enough time for me to comfortably (without rushing) seat a bullet, so that's worked out pretty well.

So far what I've noticed is the calibration function is critical. I have loaded with RL-26, H4350 SW-Match and SW-Tactical, all of which have worked satisfactorily IF I use the calibrate function for every powder. Actually if anything those ball powders undershoot. I started setting my target weight to 0.01 grains above what I wanted (basically prevents 2 hundredths down from the target weight from greenlighting) and was happy with the results on the ball powders. I'm not sure if it makes a difference (seems like it has to) but I fill the tubes up before performing the calibration. I set the stick powders where they need to be and rock and roll. I have maybe 1 overshoot every 25 rounds, I dump it in the hopper and try again, no big deal for me.

Tried this with H4350, works fast for sure.

After my initial 5 I ran 10 in a row and had 4 overshoots. Changed the times to 1.7s, it was a tad slower but had 10/10 greenlights, and still much faster than the original settings. I might try 1.6 later, but ran out of time this morning. I appreciate this information, I'm very pleased with the improved time.

So I’ve given these hidden settings a try, but I’m not getting as fast or consistent powder dumps than I am with the tip and these settings for 4166/4350/H1000/Retumbo. Generally my flow rate for the small tube is around .25-.29

I have one V4 and am looking to add second to speed up my powder throwing. If I do, what do I need to do to program both to run simultaneously? Two separate devices to blue tooth? Or am I over thinking it?

The Autotrickler app is capable of handling 2+ machines. I have 2 and just switch back and forth really.

Received my email from CEProducts my v4 is ready to ship.
Haven’t dug into any threads on it since I ordered, been a while. Looks like v4 has some issues, has anyone be able to make it work as it should?
I listed my V3 here today and sold it..

Did I make a mistake?

I would have kept the V3 IMHO. I am glad I didn't sell mine. I plan on possibly selling my V4, I'm tired of dealing with it. 🤷🏾‍♂️ It overthrows so much. The JTHOR tip worked but is still not 100%>

just follow the instructions and do not be afraid to put some tilt on it from the back side. small tube calibrated flow rate should be around .2. Instructions say .15 to .2 but we have been finding .2 to .25 works better for multiple powders. Lots of info in this string on how folks are running their settings. I like mine. consistent 9 second throws, quiet and easy to run / clean up.

If the issues didn't exist, a bunch of people wouldn't be talking about it across several platforms. So issues exist... And Adam even addressed it (unsuccessfully).

I think a lot of the issues are user created. Like the guy who was tilting the unit the wrong direction and caused a big uproar. Or the other guy who did not update the internal settings as laid out in the instructions. It is not perfect and you have to play with the settings, but once you get it set it runs great.

The only issue was waaaaahhhh it wont drop in 3.4 seconds
When I got mine I assemebled put some unique in followed the instructions and it was dropping charges in around 14 seconds. This is my first tricker and to me that seemed awesome. Once in a while it would hang for up to 30 seconds trying to get that last grain to drop. No biggie for me. But I guess if you are trying to load 6000 rounds in 39 minutes its a problem.🤷‍♂️

Certainly not tilting it the wrong way. Settings are good to go (bought direct from Adam). I don't know how many Autotricklers you've owned or encountered but this is certainly not the best execution.

ya, and you can get it to run faster by playing with the settings, tilt and getting one of those tips for the small tube. Mine is dropping in 9 seconds, every once in a while it is 15ish but it does not overthrow.

Been there, done that. Even used the custom settings.

my 3rd. they were all a little quirky. But once set they all ran about the same. I like the V4 as it is easier to fire up and clean after a load session.
