Love #2.

I used to argue with the old man. Old man: "Why BytorJr, do you need to carry?" BytorJr: "Well old man, if I knew I needed a weapon, I would not go. Or, if I did go, I would not go without a long gun (preferably an SCAR or M-4, if I KNEW I was going into mortal danger). I'd also request an AC-130 gunship in a racetrack pattern over me old man; along with some A-10's just for good measure. But, since I'm a civi, I'll take a pistol since that's about the thing I can legally carry in any state I visit. Thus, the point "old man" is that hope I can get back to wherever my long-gun is. So "old man", I carry because I cannot predict the future. And I'd prefer to carry a rifle, but since I cannot, I carry a pistol.
Haha, replying to myself.

The old man was not anti-gun; not by any stretch. Damn near expert shotgunner, shot rimfire a ton as a kid (they'd shoot two bricks a weekend!!) and when I shot last with him at the pistol range, I was frankly quite humbled. He had no depth perception due to boctched eye surgery (cateracts!!), but took his little 22 magnum and proceeded to put everything he shot in the 10 ring ( a majority in the bullseye ), at about 12 yards. Slow, mind you; but dare say he'd hit whatever it was he was shooting, even at 80-82. He even carried in the car and and a permit. But there was always this questioning of why I needed to carry on my person. I guess he couldn't accept the world has gone to shit and people are out there who don't give a flying F what you are, who you are or what the law is and that now crime can be PURELY random.

A fantastic source of protein......and parasites.

Cricket protein like much insect protein is not actually very good protein for humans to eat.
Not all protein is equal and some is not easy for your body to use properly.
So feed the insects to other animals then eat the animals you are supposed to eat.

Yes.

Does anyone seriously think that early man would have taken the risk to either hunt or compete with former apex hunters if bugs would have done the job of feeding him and his family?

Chitin would not be my first choice of protein, either.
