An entire police department DELIBERATELY held back at Uvalde and allowed the slaughter to continue inside. There is no reason that they cannot or will not do it again. The first three shooting locations aren't far from the river bank.

There is a boat launch in Papermill Trail Miller Park that is up river from the reservoir dam in Lisbon Falls and the bowling alley is just a two mile walk from the next dam up river.

However, most people don't regularly carry guns...and those that do, even a smaller percentage are trained to any extent, much less trained to take on an armed gunman...especially a gun man who has training.


Can't really fault a guy armed with Jframe for not wanting to hunt down a dude with an AR.....especially if he has a family he needs to provide for .

A lot of people here own handguns and carry but like you said, many don't. And at a small family restaurant or a bowling ally for a kids event a bunch of people wouldn't think to carry.

Remember that Maine is one of if not the lowest violent crime in the country. Many people up here have the mindset that nothing will ever happen to them here. I try to correct that thinking near daily.

AP is reporting that the military says he had a mental breakdown at a training exercise at west point in July and that's why he was taken to the hospital and evaluated. He told someone along the lines in the evaluation or while he was committed that he was hearing voices and wanted to shoot up a military base. So all of this happened and he was committed. There's no detail on whether it was voluntary or not but if it was involuntary then he's a prohibited person.

Regardless though he made a threat like he did and is still active duty somehow. This could have been prevented plain and simple. We have a system that doesn't work and bureaucrats passing more laws isn't going to fix. We have stupid fucking people making decisions that are putting peoples lives in danger. I'd say the army is very responsible for what happened for not discharging his ass and instead just discharging him from the nuthouse after just two weeks.
