Maine active shooter

Sounds like they were reporting him to the military and the police, but nobody was listening.

Oh, and this.

The senior law enforcement officials said the weapon used in the attack was a sniper rifle with .308 caliber bullets, and that it was purchased legally in 2023.

Ibid.

Katie Card said her brother-in-law is a “wonderful person” and a great father to his son who just graduated high school. She said his behavior change was sudden and that he had not previously experienced mental health issues.

“We don’t know this person. This is not him,” she said. “We are so sorry for the pain he’s caused others.

I don't know that story. What happened?

Been a minute, had to look it up. It wasn’t the SSgt, but a SPC. Sodomized his six-year-old daughter. The army requested his real name not be used in the book or movie. Grimes was the fictional name. Real name is Stebbins.

Argh. I could have lived out my life not knowing about that. It was the Ewan McGregor character.

Hopefully she has found a way to cope as an adult, now.

Apparently, he had been hearing folks talking shit about him at this bar and at the bowling alley, which is why he went there.

Maine shooting suspect Robert Card was struggling with his mental health and claimed to family he overheard people talking about him at the bowling alley and bar where he is accused of opening fire Wednesday, according to his sister-in-law.
. . .
“Yesterday, as the story was unfolding, we prayed that Rob had nothing to do with this. But when we heard the two places where the shooting happened, my husband rushed home.”

Additionally, Card's sister-in-law also spoke with CNN, the network said. She disputed reports elsewhere that Card had a history of mental health struggles.

"This is something that was an acute episode. This is not who he is," O’Neill said. "He is not someone who has had mental health issues for his lifetime or anything like that."

Apparently, his breakdown happened at West Point during a training exercise, and he was in a military hospital for the psych eval but was released after two weeks.

Army clearly failed this guy. Hard.

Army clearly failed all those folks in Lewiston.
Honestly I hope blame gets thrown at them for it. The Air Force got their flak for their schizo and the Army needs to take responsibility for not doing their bit on this one.

Not saying he isn't to blame for his own actions, but something is majorly fucking sketchy about this.

I guess that the authorities did not use this law that they had at their disposal.

So they are going to want more laws!
In the cops defense, these incidents with him happened at West Point. No one here would probably have even been made aware of it. But if he purchased the rifle AFTER these events, then the Army did not do their job.

Just read an article saying local LE transported him to the psych ward…so someone downtown knew.

Army Brass Sent Lewiston Shooter to Psych Ward Earlier This Year Over “Erratic” Behavior, Shooting Spree Threats

Steve Robinson
BY STEVE ROBINSONOCTOBER 26, 2023UPDATED:OCTOBER 26, 20231 COMMENT2 MINS READ

The alleged shooter in Wednesday’s attack in Lewiston that left 18 dead and 13 injured was evaluated by police and an Army hospital after military officials flagged concerns about his erratic behavior.
The Maine Information & Analysis Center, an intelligence arm of the Maine State Police, released information Wednesday night showing that Robert R. Card II was previously investigated for erratic and potentially violent behavior.
“According to local law enforcement, Card recently reported mental health issues to include hearing voices and threats to shoot up a National Guard base in Saco, ME,” the MIAC memo said.
Maine Commissioner for the Department of Public Safety declined to comment on Card’s institutionalization when asked about the report at a press conference Thursday morning.

That information was confirmed Thursday in Associated Press reporting that quoted anonymous U.S. Officials.
A U.S. official told the Associated Press Thursday that police in New York took Maine shooting suspect Robert Card to a hospital in July to receive a medical evaluation after military officials grew concerned about his erratic behavior.
Commanders in the Army Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment grew concerned this summer over Card’s behavior. He was reportedly acting erratically during training at West Point in New York.
New York state police took Card to the Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point for involuntary admission, the official told the AP.
Card is now being sought by police for murder following the mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday that left 18 people dead.
Card’s current whereabouts remain unknown.
The Maine State Police have described him as being armed and dangerous.
As many as 300 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers are currently engaged in what may be the largest manhunt in Maine history.

It seems that local LE knew something was up with him from his comments about the guard post in Saco though.

A spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that Card was enlisted in the Army Reserve.

“Sgt. 1st Class Robert R. Card II is a Petroleum Supply Specialist in the Army Reserve, enlisting in December 2002,” the DOD spokesperson said. “He has no combat deployments. His awards include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal x2, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.”

Hearing voices after getting hearing aides installed is rather interesting.

I still can’t believe that nothing was done to prevent this. Our government failed hugely on this.

- NY State has an extreme risk protection order that could have been issued when they hauled him away from a training event (presumably firearms since he was an instructor) after having a mental breakdown and told the doctors that he was hearing voices and wanted to shoot up a base. They failed.

- ME has a yellow flag law which could have been used in this case and his family had been in contact with police and the army about his mental health and they also did nothing. They failed.

- Army should have discharged his ass after the episode and threats making him a prohibited person. They failed.

What in the actual fuck? Gun laws, red flag laws, and our system doesn’t fucking work. If the system worked with laws currently in place this would not have happened.

So even retired cops in Maine do not carry guns???

The bowling alley appears to be alcohol free so it may be a declared gun free zone.

Other than that, usually carry laws support "carry" not "handy" so if he was bowling he may not have carried into the lanes.

Maine does not make places serving alcohol off limits unless it is posted and you carry in a way that others notice, OR you are intoxicated. But either way even lefty jurisdictions exempt retired cops, don't they?

Pretty sure retired LE are allowed to carry places where the general plebs aren’t just as if they were still sworn LE.

I’m not sure on ME’s laws regarding no carry signs most free states they’re only enforceable if asked to leave and you’re not breaking a law by ignoring the sign. Provided it’s not somewhere off limits by state law to carry. Regardless, retired LE should be exempt from that too if I’m not mistaken.

Red flag laws were already in place? Didn’t they tell us that red flag laws would stop all this shit?

Tells you what the real purpose of red flag laws is.

If it was a gun free zone, glad to see everyone following the rules. Well, almost everyone.

Correct but it appears my intention of sharing that information went speedily and completely through the uprights.

No alcohol eliminates the possibility of alcohol posting and makes it more likely that carry is OK ... unless the establishment itself has opted to be gun free regardless of alcohol which it is free to do.

And, of course, there is always the possibility he chose not to carry or even if he was carrying he may have chosen to lead his family to safety rather than charge the beast.

But it's all conjecture of course just like your initial question.

Firearms instructor off his rocker… I have a feeling this is going to get worse. Hopefully some good ole boy sees him walking down a forest road and recognizes him and mows him down.

It’s ironic that another person that should be prohibited based on mental health has killed a bunch of people with a gun. I wonder why this keeps happening?
It's almost as if none of the gun laws worked and adding more of the same will not work, obviously.

This one guy with an AR has caused so much hurt and carnage, and he may not be done yet.

What’s it going to be like when a 100,000 border jumping terrorists decide to act? 100,000 may be a low estimate.
Then they will ban all AR and other guns..,....and exactly what they have been waiting for.....

Why is the FBI involved in this at this point? He has not crossed state lines or committed a crime on federal property.
This is SOP nowadays.

Anyone from VT or NH can recognize that’s a Subaru Outback. Typically with an AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) or co-exist sticker on the back and a butchy lesbian driving.
However, they’re great in the snow. The car, not the lesbian.
5 spoke wheels vrs 6 spoke wheels on the other. Not same

Weird, once again a criminal didn't follow the law..,...

And because others did, they were unable to protect themselves. The amount of people in the gram and on X saying the gov should take all Guns as the police can handle it all is absolutely astounding. These people are insane. Clearly they can’t handle it or every situation.

Motherfucker...

On a side note I have been down the Youtube rabbit hole of Marine and Army intake, boot camp, and training videos for some time now and I just have to wonder... Someone who has gone through such admirable, pride-inducing, and grueling discipline and character building training, and served honorably only to come out and commit a fucking sex crime against a minor, something so abhorrent and disgusting that it permanently disembowels a person's entire reputation for the rest of their lives. Fucking why?

First of all, it isn't your parent's or grandparent's military. It no longer qualifies as you describe. Yes, there are some hard MF's to be found not the least of which are in the Active Duty team I support, but there is far too much wokeness and pandering to homosexual and other perversions to have a cohesive disciplined overall military. Way too many men wearing dresses, if you need to have it spelled out.
Secondly this has the typical MKUltra sort of stink to it. He's an Army Reservist, with a record, having been in a mental facility, where his brain can be stirred up with LSD, and other fucked up techniques, and sent out "just in time" to distract us from the real issues at hand (Hamas in our midst, Biden's Mercenaries, fixing the coming elections, like a 3d world banana republic), and to push the anti-gun agenda, right handily.
It's all too convenient.

So wasn't the military forced to do something in 2020?
Hmmm.....no one has mentioned this yet?
Guy just goes nuts. Family shocked. Hearing voices after getting hearing aids.
Kumguzzla knew something like this was about to happen.
Its the Pax.....again.
You can expect more of this as tranhumanism gets more perfected.

My son is 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, and I haven't noticed all this men wearing dresses and woke pandering to homosexuals that you and others on the internet talk about.

All it takes is state LE/state .gov to make a few phone calls.
