My AXSR 37 XC barrel is finally up and running after a 2 year wait.. almost 1 year waiting on the Bartlein modBB blank, shipped 2 blanks halfway across the country only to have them sit at a smiths for a year, ended up having them shipped back to me.. $150 wasted in shipping cost 😡…..

Than hand delivered my blank to Greg at SPR aka Bugholes along with my JGS custom 37XC CEB reamer. SPR crew knocked this barrel out of the park. 4 week turn around time.. Huge shout out to Greg/Russ @ Bugholes..

First time firing a new barrel. I didn't see any grooves in the bullet when I cycled them before firing.

But great suggestions, TY.

All my AI 30 cal barrels HATE Hornady bullets. I was popping primers at 2550 fps with 308 178 BTHP rounds. I even pulled down FGMM 175 rounds which shot at 2700 just fine and put the 178 in making sure to not touch the lands. It was still overpressure by a massive amount.

I have no idea why, but it is consistent across guns, barrels from both Bartlein and LW, and across OAL variances, charges, and case type.

The ONLY thing it could be is the bullet. I have seen this in 30-06 with Hornady 208s as well.

Your experience with the 308 cartridge is something that I also experienced but forgot about. I used those 178 BTHP rounds when I got my 308 barrel for the AXMC. It was a couple of years ago, but I remember the same thing happened. I never used that cartridge again.

I am going to check 20 other randomly selected rounds from this case to see if it was isolated to this box. The Bergers should show up in a week or so.

How are you enjoying that maztech (2k or 15k?)? I am on the fence between getting a Tango or Maztech 2k. I am not sure I am ready to drop another 5k+ on the 15k just yet.

Was my first weekend out with it (15k) and it exceeded my expectations. Zeroing super fast. Ranging was instant out to 750.

The only glaring miss, which I knew going in, is the cord and remote. The cord needs a 90 degree connector out of the unit for those of us with larger turrets.

Buddy of mine got the 2k and FWIW he's a bit disappointed with the speed of the unit.

Thanks for the feedback. From what I've seen the 15k looks like an absolute beast. I can't justify the 15k at the moment given that I am an east coast shooter with 600 yards to play with unless I travel for a match. Even at a match that's going to be ~1200-1400 yards max. I'll probably go Tango, seems to be better than the Maztech 2k, for ~1800 yards and in, at least from a speed perspective.

Can't argue with that logic either, highly probable you'll be very happy with the tango.

32’’ barrel ? 1-8 twist? 1.350’’ shank HV contour, I presume.

Finished 33” plus 4.5 inch brake, it’s a 1.350 shank 1-7.5 modBB modified HV w a muzzle diameter of 1.1, it’s about max diameter you can use on a AXSR… I just ordered 2 more Bart 375 blanks yesterday but I’m changing up the contour a bit for a little more clearance at the forend while still allowing for a spiral flute.

Looks like MC LE are now available for civilian purchase!

ETA: Hopefully this means the other LE models will be as well, but I have a feeling this is just to get rid of "old" stock.
The only thing I would be concerned about is replacements, like bolts and firing pins. A lot of that stuff for the MC is like a YEAR out or more if you want one. Unlikely you'd need parts, but its something to consider.

If i didn't blow a ton of money on other stuff lately id probably get one just because the LE version is "Cool". Dark Earth looks like it sold out fast, and that would've been my pick. Good thing it sold out fast lol..

So mine is a 36" , 1.350 for 6" then tapered to 1.1 at the muzzle. I went ahead and ordered 2 more 37" blanks from Schneider Barrels last week that are their blackline custom contour which is 1.350 for 6.5" then tapered to 1.2" at the muzzle.

I thought you could get a 1.350 straight in there can't you? What is making you want more clearance than a muzzle diameter of 1.1 isn't accommodating?

What parts are hard to get for the MC? Bolts aren't that bad. I waited for a WM bolt, but they look to be available right now. Firing pin assemblies are easy enough to swap over, even then you can buy a extra one pretty easily.

I'm almost 9 months into waiting for a #27781 1.6mm SFP 338L AXMC bolt body. There were a couple in stock at Euro in December of 2024 and I snoozed a couple days before ordering; a week later when I went to order they were out of stock. I have one backordered, but at this point I've accepted AI might discontinue it. Mile High no longer has that part number listed on their website, a few months ago the page for it was still there but showed out of stock.

I have a 34” 33XC that was 1.35 x 5 then a straight taper to 1.1 at the muzzle and with a little bit of load on the handguard it would touch. It measured about 1.28 where it would touch so I had it re-contoured to 1.2 to give ample clearance.

My factory handguard was a tighter fit than the M-Lok version so I swapped those as well.

HMM, i wonder if i should see if they have a slightly lighter taper or do you think this will work? I imagine it is close.

9 months isn't too bad. I found a WM bolt after 2 years of somewhat looking. NikH waited 4 years for his left hand bolt. You can always get a LFP bolt and have it redone for a SFP. While we can bitch and cry about parts availability, there are worst platforms to get parts for(Knights). You have to remember the lowly civilian is last on their priority. That goes with a lot of stuff in the shooting arena.

I’d go lighter but that’s just my opinion. I had to have Fritz cut mine down in order for it not to touch. This was how it looked before it was re-contoured.

Ahh ya that is tight. Ill see what they have for a step below, or else ill have fritz re contour it. My current 37xc barrel came from bugholes as 1.450, and he made it work.

I don’t believe you can get a straight 1.350 contour in a AXSR forend. Someone here correct me if I’m wrong. 1.250 at the muzzle end of the forend is the largest I have tried.

I recommend going 1.19" @ 28" with 1.350"x5" shank to be below 1.250" at the end of the forend (for a straight taper).

Or with a 1.350"x3" shank: 1.17" @28".
Technically 1.27" will fit at the end of the forend (16"), but I would still aim for 1.25", which would be 1.16" at the muzzle for a 37" barrel, 6" shank.

I mean I’m not going to be rucking up any mountains, purely benchrest, but this thing is ridiculously awkwardly long 😂 chopping the barrel is definitely going to be considered. Gonna shoot it, see how it is first. Who knows.

In all honesty I bought it with the intentions of grabbing an AX ELR in the future. But it’ll sit on the SR for the time being.

The one pic is a comparison to the TBAC 338 Ultra G2.

Good god. I guess you don’t have to dial if your barrel and suppressor are so long they are halfway to the target.

That’s definitely got to slow down your ADS speed. No quick scopes for you.

That’s seriously sick though. I’d love to hear what it sounds like shooting a 37XC, so I can live vicariously through you.

Why do I hear 70's porn music when I look at that last pic?
Dude this house was built in the 70’s, I literally just got rid of the GREEN shag carpet last fall 😂

Whole house had shag carpet. Bathrooms too.

80’s hair bands are all that plays in the basement…

You think I'd get any funny looks if i show up to the next PRS match and whip this thing out? I might have to just bring it and try and keep a straight face during sign in. Ill have to load it up on my 53' stepdeck, it isn't gonna fit in the fucking denali. Boy i hope there are no standing positions...

You need to show up with it on a trailer and strapped down.

Yeah I think that barrel length negates the precision aspect, just turns into close quarters.
