Well after almost a year of planning I am almost done with my chassis:

Since I didn't want to have small reduces on the corners of the magazine well I had to build a special die to match the magazine final dimensions and press it with a press to have exact tolerances:

it took over a year but now all I have is to send it to the CNC machine for the folding stock interface and install the Parker Hale bipod adapter and then to the bath for anodizing and we are done.
Oh and the night vision mount.
So what do you think?
Updated images after most hardware installed, still need to make some changes and fix some minor problems

Re: my chassis is almos done

Looks like you are an over achiever. Pretty outstanding.

Re: my chassis is almos done

Nice work, are you going to bed it? What are all the (threaded?) holes down the side for? How much trouble was making the ghetto broach for the mag well? Would you do it that way again?

ETA: Oh yeah, and what weight are you looking at now without the buttstock?

Re: my chassis is almos done

It took me about a year and a half and about $2000 not including time in front of the computer and phone calls to my engineer friend to finalize my design/
and eventually I think that that almost exactly how I wanted it to look maybe a little heavy but it has all features I wanted.
anyway next time I will build a 3D model before building the prototype
I am starting to think about my next project

The holes will be threaded for picatinny rails parallel to the barrel and for the clip-on mount the weight should be about 3.200 Kilograms after I will finish some more CNC work.
I will bed it but only about first 1" of the barrelss since it really fits tight.
Thanks

Now that's the sign of a real machinist! A work bench with stuff all over it!

Make chips and make the chit yer makin perty! Screw the bench!

Mr. Dixon It really is a big honor to receive a compliment from you.
I don't know if you remember But we had a small conversation regarding that project some time ago
Thanks
I will upload more pictures as I continue with the project.

Re: my chassis is almos done

I need to see it finished to get a good handle on it. But it looks like a very impressive amount of work, time, effort and talent has gone into it!

Can't wait to see finished product pictures

Re: my chassis is almos done

I'm diggin the broach. Clever, clever, clever.

I'm fiddling with some floor metal stuff. I may borrow (steal) that idea.

Sure beats the snot out of relief corners with skinny endmills that looove to squeal like a piglet.

Nice!

Re: my chassis is almos done

Thanks Chad, I was trying to dig in my head for the correct word (broach).
I would think that if you are making commercial quantities of magazine floorplates maybe you should use Electro Erosion it should be cheaper and give better tolerances and surface then using a broach.
Thank you all for the positive replays I will upload more pictures as soon as I have more time to continue with the project
Thanks

Re: my chassis is almos done

A sinker isn't very quick. If I were producing this in quantity I would go for a casting. $20k for a mold, leave it +.020" big, finish machine at a zillion rpm and 400ipm. Or just put it to size and post op your holes, tapping, finish machined inlet.

With the right mold you'd have the mag well turn key, no machining
Needed.

Set it on a 4 axis and make it a 2 op part.

You'd have about $150 in each one, sell it for 899 and giggle at your deposit slips.

Just takes money and ambition!

Good luck!

Re: my chassis is almos done

Oh no for me it's just a hobby my sales potential here would be for one unit it is just a game for me
I really like the project hobbies yo are doing here in the forum it gives me a lot of inspiration to dare and try new things but I have nanny objective problems we can't get here even bedding compounds or release agents so for us no use for extraordinary stuff we don't even have a discent gunsmith in Israel that can replace a worn barrel so as they say if you want something to be done properly do it yourself
Thanks
