I want to completely remove ALL traces of the torch mark,and these are once fired 303 surplus.
Like I said ONCE fired,punch primer's,anneal,tumble,dry, and THEN process them.

I will only SS clean my brass and anneal once a season. I clean the brass with corn cob/walnut shells during the season since it takes too much effort and water to clean with SS media.

I use LEE case lube and after sizing toss them into the SS media for a 10-15 minute tumble to clean them off.I've used LEE ube for year's so I'm use to it.
I also trim after tumbling.

Does it matter if you use a 9mm capful of powdered lemishine? Or is the liquid preferred? Apparently it comes in both powder and liquid form and I want to get the dosing right!

Powder form seems to give better results. A 9mm case is just about the right amount for the Model B Thumlers. Do not over do it with the Lemishine, more is not better.

I can see the value of this method. Really. Except for the extra steps and the necessity, but okay, if a guy admires polished cases, I will concede.

But, while the above photo might desire to prove how well it works, come on. Who needs to polish cases in that condition. I have picked up 50 cal. cases out in the desert left since the Second World War that looked better than the above examples. Yikes! When they get like that, it's not unreasonable to toss them and buy more, there is no shortage of new unfired brass. BB

Been reading many of these posts, I too have experienced some of the same problems with my ss tumbler as cutting down the amount of soap used with soft water and the beating up of the brass neck rims that require some attention after hours of tumbling. But I would just like to add the method of drying the cases that works well for me. After seperating the pins from brass I roll them in a towel to remove excess water and place them base down on the ceramic electric stovetop and turn it on HI for a few seconds. I only have to do this a couple times and let them set till cool. Completely dry. You could do this with a toaster oven too, but I like the source of heat at the base. SS media is the best cleaning method I have ever used in many years of reloading. Have to watch the flash holes for stuck pins though.

I like to put my 3/4 inch square rare earth magnet into the towel during the rolling section.
You'd be surprised on how many pin's it pick's up

I ran 2 drums with 45acp in it that was semi dirty stuff not real bad. 30 min and the are 95% clean. I put 213 cases in each tumbler w/5lbs SS (my 3rd drum seems to have a small leak so need to get out the epoxy and find the crack in the liner so only running the 2 in my picture). In the 3rd drum I usually run lemi shine and soap only no media and throw stuff in there that I want to clean a little to see if it is worth saving. To get the same level of clean from my Walnut tumbler would have taken 3+ hours (vibrating tumbler). While it does use some water to complete this process I think the drop in cleaning time is huge for me. I have a few hundred 223 rounds sitting there waiting for depriming that were desert rounds that are pretty dirty. Will get some pics of before/after when I run those but I have a few 30-06 like those above that are almost black in color been in the desert/outside for a few years so we will see what it does when I run the 30-06 load as well. I am certainly a believer in the process but it is a bit more cleanup in the end. I haven't run any bottle neck cases with SS yet so not sure about the issues noted with the pinning I will see what I get when I deprime and run the 223.

Their just about the same. Maybe a small difference in length,like 0.010.
The important fact is that their BOTH magnetic for quick clean up and the towel tumble.

I run approx 125 cases and it doesn't really heat up.

Just throw your scale over to oz and weigh them. I try not to go over 40 oz (2.5#)

Just did my first batch...WOW INCREDIBLE, and so easy. Processing my second batch now. No more dry media for me...

I also bought the Sinclair Universal Decapper and alternate rod for 204. This is great and fast. The only thing is the pin retainer works loose on the threads and needs tighter occasionally.

I replaced the wing nuts on my tumbler as soon as it came out of the box. The plastic knobs I used are a great improvement. I found a link for them somewhere in the two long threads here, but recently I tried to find it for a friend and spent hours searching before I found it again (and bookmarked it).

These knobs are low-profile so they don't interfere with the rollers, etc. They also have a nylon anti-vibration insert so they won't work loose. They are 71 cents each with $1 shipping from McFeely's.

cowman, we have been using a regular tumbler. It's a 20 year old Thumbler's Tumbler that holds 3 pounds. The only downfall is you cannot put as many casings in there as the larger ones. Just make sure you convert the amount of soap, ss media, lemishine and water ratio for the different size container.

the SS would in all probability chew up the plastic.

Thanks in advance. Those wing nuts are awkward, I'd like to replace them.

Do you use these with the washers that came with the tumbler? The threads on the bolts don't seem to protrude far enough that the nylon insert part of the knob would catch.

No, I don't use any washers. I've never had any problems getting a good, quick 'grab' on the threads.

I switched to the SS media system last year and can't say enough about it. After buying the 3 way cutter for my trimmer and the SS media system, I no longer had use for my RCBS case prep center because the SS pins clean the primer pockets for you!!! I would recommend this to anyone who isn't quite happy with the old corn cob or walnut media. Another best part is that you never have to replace the media (unless you lose it by pouring it down the drain). Keep a magnet handy and you should be good to go.
