Hi, been a lurker for awhile and finally got around to registering. I am awaiting the arrival of my new M96 (just sold my AR-50 to help fund it) and was wondering if anyone has modified the stock bipod on it in order for it to pivot and adjust to uneven ground. I am aware of the RND bipod and tube upgrade but that is not an option at this point. I'm curious if anyone has tried to install a bushing or bearing of some sort. From the photos I've seen it looks doable but I'm not sure. Any info or ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Re: EDM Windrunner M96 bipod

As much as Bill wants for a replacement bipod, I'd make sure you find someone you really trust to work on it. I'm sure a good machinist could work wonders and whip something up. I've never taken mine off, but the EDM is long-gone now otherwise I would inspect and offer my input. I know what you mean though... the stock bipod on the EDM is built like a tank, but with some major sacrifices (it alone weighs almost 9 pounds if I remember correctly, and no cant)!

Give Bill a call sometime and see what he says about it too. He is really a great guy to talk with and stands behind his products 110 percent. Just don't mention anything CheyTac and you'll be GTG in his eyes.

Re: EDM Windrunner M96 bipod

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I just can't imagine no one has ever tried something of that nature before. Hopefully someone will come along who had the nerve/knowledge to try it!

Re: EDM Windrunner M96 bipod

If you haven't physically received the rifle yet, try it out first! It does have a very, very small amount of play in it (maybe 5 degrees) in order to get your reticle level.

You can always go for a bipod upgrade later after the bank account/credit card turns back into a solid instead of the liquid mass that EDM Arms and whoever you are purchasing your glass from turned it into. One thing is certain, you will thoroughly enjoy it. Post some picture of it up when you get it. I've been interested in seeing the new bolt lug engineering.

Re: EDM Windrunner M96 bipod

I was unaware of the play, might just be enough for my needs. I will be sure to post pictures once I receive it. I still need to sell a couple of things first to pay it off, hopefully this week. They are saying a 12 week wait from the time of payoff since they won't work on the barrel until full receipt of funds. At least I'll have a little time to work on my backstop!

Re: EDM Windrunner M96 bipod

I'm pretty sure the feet on the M60 bipod are slightly adjustable for individual hight.

Re: EDM Windrunner M96 bipod

Now that you mention it I have seen some with the adjustable legs. I wonder if that is an upgrade like on the APA bipod for the AR-50. I'll call EDM this week and find out. Thanks everyone.

Here is a pic of the stock EDM bipod. The set screw on the bottom will come out and allow the bipod to rotate some. You may be able to put some kind of small thrust washer under the front mounting screw to keep it tight. The M60 bipod upgrade is $450. Seems like a rip off to me.

Elite Iron now makes the rotating bipod/tube for these guns. I called about one and they priced it for $600 with a short wait. Its not on their site, so you need to call. I was going to order one, but now my financial situation is going to force me to sell my Windrunner before getting to fire it. Id much rather give $600 for that, than $450 for an M60 bipod. In my eyes the tube makes the EDM look even cooler.

I did have an ALS50 that came with a really nice bipod. Fully adjustable and pivots. Cost from them is only $200, but Im not sure if it can be made to work on the windrunner. http://www.50bmg.net/adjustable_folding_bipod.php

Re: EDM Windrunner M96 bipod

I spoke to Bill this morning when I called and told them I would be sending my check to pay of the balance tomorrow. While on the phone I asked about the bi-pod and indicated to him that I wanted the M60 bipod. He said that would not be a problem and that I just needed to let Deanne (sp?) know so that she could put that on my rifle order. He said that there would be no additional cost and that it was adjustable. It will be about 12 weeks before I take delivery as the barrels take awhile to be received and then worked. I must say I am very happy with my choice so far and Bill and his staff have been very helpful and friendly. I'll guess I'll just have to wait and see how the bipod works as delivered. Thanks again
