Rifle Scopes SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

It's simple how it works in the gun industry... you want it now, you pay a premium... willing to wait, you save a few bucks.

Waiting is a PART OF LIFE in the gun world.

Now back to the subject at hand... I got a few more people to sign up! Lets get'er done!!!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I must admit I am a bit surprised at the small storm caused by my post. I post an opinion, stated intelligently and without insults and what do I get; insults, name calling, low post counts call outs and admonishments to go away. From the great quality of the folks, discussions and information here, I did expect a bit better. I have no idea how I offended anyone or ruined anything for anyone. My apology either way.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Swamp2 – I would say the responses you have received are a reaction to your implied ignorance of how group buys on preproduction products are handled. Apparently you would prefer the product not be advertised until the day it is available. That’s fine, just stay away from group buy threads.

You say that your post was an intelligently stated opinion. I think this is where many take issue with your opinion. Your opinion did not come off as intelligent to many here who have participated in many group buys or early production releases. I agree you did not insult anyone but in my intelligent opinion you did come off as naive. You are of course entitled to your thoughts but remember the old adage – Better to be thought a fool then open one’s mouth and confirm it. I don’t mean that as an insult, just a point to ponder. Don’t go away, just consider your thoughts before you post, I certainly do. I thought long about this one before I posted. I assume (I hate that) that you were just thinking out loud when you hit the enter key;-}

If anyone here was offended by your post they are really thin skinned and won’t last long. No need to apologize to anyone.

When I choose to join this group buy it will be at the last possible moment. I’m holding out for the 10000. I guess that means I’ll be in the back of the line to receive anything I order. Only 4 months seems pretty quick to me, I bet mine will take longer.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Thanks for your reply ^.

Perhaps some ignorance of the GB process indeed. I don't have any problem with a company gauging interest and demand early, I just felt this delay was a but excessive and the date is slipping as well. No one should like that fact... Nothing fundamentally wrong with being a bit anxious for a good price on a good product. Cheers.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'm in for 20% off on a 1-6x24 scope I knew I would buy the moment I first saw it discussed here. I look forward to receiving mine in 4 months (or whenever.)

I hope the illumination is bright enough for use in daylight.

Swamp;

I bit my tongue until your last post but it seems as though you just aren’t getting it. IMHO you have no valid reason to complain and doing so has the potential to “leave a bad taste” (to use your words) in the mouth of the group buy sponsor potentially ruining the chance for more savings opportunities for the rest of us. Knock-it-off, please!

You knew (or at least should have known) you were ordering an item that was not yet in stock; that issue has been well publicized regarding this optic. You should have been prepared to wait; if you had a more immediate need you should have purchased something already available. There is something “fundamentally wrong” about complaining when a vendor does exactly what they said they’d do just because you’re “anxious”! Your needs/expectations are your problem, don't try to make them someone else's.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I think swamp2 gets it now. The thing is lots of manufacturers are coming to market with new products. Ho hum, we have to wait if we want it. SWFA steps up with a new product AND a great promotion. This promotion creates a certain amount of excitement and anxiety and everyone reacts a little different. Same thing happened in a certain ammo buy. It’s all a learning process, I certainly don’t know everything and I’m guessing swamp2 doesn’t either. As far as swamp2 complaining, he thought he should until he learned otherwise. We should all feel better about educating one of our new members instead of being judgmental.

We may continue to disagree on this. You may not know all of the relevant details.

I did my research on the expected timeline for the product I was interested in (1-6x) some time before this promotion. I got a hold of the SWFA Sales Manager and was quoted "early summer" (group buy or not). Since I did not see this information anywhere here on the forum I shared it with the community. Now, right after the excitement is built by the promotion and SWFA get's a ton of great information from their pre-orders, then the date shifts to July. I believe I have every right to be both anxious in a good way but also a bit disappointed at the same time. If every group buy and every new product in the firearms industry has this same exact thing happen, then yes, again, I can plead some ignorance. If my expectations are too high I simply might counter that many of those of others is too low.

Lastly, if you think a tiny tinge of negativity on snipershide will ruin your chances for savings, you are clearly not thinking that through logically.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

You are correct in that we'll have to agree to disagree (and I do respect your rights in that regard.) Quite frankly pretty much every group buy seems to go this way: a ‘Hide vendor offers a great deal only to have one, or a few, forum member(s) complain publicly in the forums that it doesn’t quite meet their wants and needs. The exact same thing happened with the original SS 5-20 group buy. More than once we’ve witnessed a vendor express second thoughts and even regrets for having made the group-buy offer in the first place. I, for one, think getting 20% off the price of a product that would no-doubt sell quickly even without the discount is a really great deal, no matter the wait. For the record we don’t even know what the actual wait will be as all we have is second-hand info and speculation to this point.

As a small business owner myself I guess you struck a nerve. I also occasionally have a customer agree to make a purchase under mutually agreed terms only to later decide he wants to change the agreement to better suit his wants. I’m working with one right now. We agreed, by written contract that my company would have a certain scope of work completed by June 30, 2012. Here is a portion or his correspondence with me today: “I understand the contract does indicate completion by the end of June. Unfortunately at the time we did not understand the impact this would have on our living conditions ...” in other words ‘I don’t care what we agreed, I want it now…' As it stands we're on track to have the work completed by the middle of next week, a month-and-a-half earlier than the commitment under which the sale was made! Had he conditioned his purchase upon completion of that work earlier than the contracted date, quite frankly, I would have politely declined to make that sale. It just isn't right, IMHO, to buy under mutually agreed terms and then complain about it when the other party does exactly what you both agreed to. While I certainly don’t speak for them, I’m guessing SWFA would feel the same way.

Respectfully;

PLong

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Swamp2, I still disagree with you and your decision to post the original comment. I don't believe it was constructive criticism. If it was constructive in nature, why was it posted publicly? Constructive criticism almost exclusively happens privately to show respect for ones dignity. From my vantage point, it appears you are criticizing generosity. The free membership to this site and all that comes with it: endless information, group buys, etc... is enabled because of the site sponsors (and the site itself of course). Since your comments run the risk of reflecting poorly on the entire SnipersHide community, the community responded. Please fill me in if I missed something.

If you're not familiar with the history, please read this thread at least until page 6 when SWFA replied.

It's time for this thread to move on, and refocus back onto the excitement over this great offer!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

well I just liked.. and I am waiting like a kid at Christmas for the 10k.. The only thing I wonder is if I order both will they ship the 5-20 out first, and then I just have to wait on one?

I am wondering the same thing. I really need the 5-20 now...the 1-6 can wait.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

plong:

Perhaps you missed the point: The lack of a commitment on a formal shipping time compounded by a slipping back of a prior "privately" mentioned shipping date is my issue. I don't think your statement about "mutually agreed terms" is applicable in any way.

Valere:

Good thing that although the forum is private, it is in large part (assuming we follow forum rules/etiquette) a democracy because I can post as I like. Whether you want to call the criticism constructive or not is also largely irrelevant. The dates are changing AFTER a likely successful round of commitments by customers. Is this enough for me to call it a bad deal, no. It this enough for me to call SWFA a bad vendor, no. Is this enough for me to call them shady in any way whatsoever, no. I just had some small misgivings. For christsakes just crucify me at the stake and get it over with...

I do not believe the complete facts and timeline surrounding my complaint was provided. I have since provided that as supplementary information. I've admitted some ignorance about timing and delays in this industry.

I'm not sure the relevance to the 5-20x50 situation. A totally different case.

last but not least if you think your privileged membership here in the Hide gives you products below cost, I've got a $10 million dollar Nigerian Price's inheritance for you, you'll just have to help cash the check...

Again this is mostly a democracy. I agree it is time to move on.

I just had 2 friends like SWFA, and they are telling their friends too.

I can't get over the dogmatism from many here. This is not a matter of right or wrong, it is a matter of opinion. I admitted I might not have been informed of the delays and "norms" of the firearms industry. However, what is clearly wrong though is the immature name calling and other ridiculous call outs I got for offering an opinion and some facts.

yes I meant rings, I dont really have a price range. I would like low rings but I have been reading that I will need medium.

Low should be fine with the 5-20.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I have mounted two 5-20 ss on Rem 700 sa with Burris XTR low rings. One has an egw 20moa base and the other has a 40 moa NF base.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I had Leupold Mark4 med rings laying around and tried to use them on my TRG 42 with the 5-20SS and they were to short/small. I have the warne 20moa base on the TRG 42. I had to order the Mark 4 high rings from SWFA.

Also, order the 1-6 Super chicken yesterday with the 5000 discount, can't wait to get it.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

It's stabilized at 600-700 likes per week (on the last few recorded days). Only 4 weeks left. That'll be 2400-2800 more likes, about 1000 short.

It needs about 3400 more.

We need a big boost in order to get it on time.

Edit2: uh i cant dooo maff
8 weeks left. Its possible to make it at the current rate.

Having to have a FB account to be a member of this forum is a ludicrous idea, which is what you are implying . Being forced to like every vendor whether you actually do or not is equally a bad idea.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I will never have a facecrack account but I liked on my wife's and had her message 10 or so family members to do the same. I figure by the end I should get around 20 likes so I did my part without giving in to the social networking craze.

Also, why does everyone say we are almost out of time? July 15 is still over 2 months away - not to say we should stop getting the word out. I want the 5-20 and might just have to keep the 1-6 once it gets in.

Because the existing 5-20x50 coupon expires on 5-23-2012. If we haven't hit 10,000 by then (and it appears we won't) I'll just buy the 5-20x50 then. The risk of waiting until 6-15-2012 is not reaching 10,000 at all ... and getting no discount.

I think SWFA is going to sell a bunch of 5-20x50 scopes on 5-23.

I think it is 7/15 per the first post in this thread.

If you look at the expiration dates for the coupon codes (all 30days after) the rate of "Likes" is about 1k per every 2-3 days. Per my my quick glance, it appears 10k is very likely.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I do not see the tie in. Why would the sale price be based on a social site that many of us have no interest in?

I would like to support good companies that offer great products but being "forced" to join something like facebook is a negative in my opinion.

Now, I see no issue with offering a discount if XXXX people commit to buy a product and are willing to wait for delivery so the manufacturer can negotiate a good price from suppliers with the knowledge the product will sell. I would be willing to wait 6 months to get this deal.

I am in the market for a good scope and I have heard good things about them so they were high on me list. As it stands now, I am on the fence about dealing with SWFA. I think they F'ed up.

Does anyone know of a group buy on a high end scope anywhere else? Please PM me as I do not want to disrupt this thread and it's intent.

Marketing 101...

Generate buzz for your products (in this case, via social media) and provide an incentive for interested parties to spread the word about the company and their products.

Its the very best of targeted, word-of-mouth advertising without spending money to get it.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I just sent my order in for a 5-20. This'll be the most expensive scope I've ever bought. I'll try it out atop my Barrett M99. If the "likes" reach 10,000 I'll be on the fence to buy the combo deal. The 5-20 would fit nice on many of my other rifles and the 1-6 sounds ideal for my M1A in a Sage Stock. Plus, saving about $700 is hard to beat anywhere else.
