Re: SHWW Group

Yeah Jakes targets were awesome and some of those guns were SWEET!

That spinner was holding up great to everything all day long until it got hit I think 10-15 times by a few different .338's and what not! Don't think it would have a problem holding up to daily abuse from some 7mm/300 magnums.

T-post brackets were bulletproof (literally), and the poppers were TOUGH! Great job today by all and the Ewok ended up taking first... guess sun shines on every dogs @$$ some day! ;-)

Good to meet some more of you and do some shooting!

Mike

Re: SHWW Group

Dylanss Thanks for letting me shoot the snipetac, and thanks Jake for letting me blow up the bearing on your spinner target.

Jim and Jesse thanks again for putting on yet another match, it is much appreciated.

Good shooting Fuzzy.

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks for a great day of shooting guys. I shot my shorty 308 and learned alot today!!!

To the steel, After I got home, I took everything out and gave it a visual inspection.

I am really happy with the results of our torture testing!!!

A little recap of the damage done to the three items we were testing today.

T POST brackets- They performed very well all day as I thought would be the case. I am well happy with the design. By the end of the week we are going to be in full production with our youth creating them from start to finish!! They are very strong!! And Lightweight, and compact, and did I mention they are awesome.....Anyway, we put about 10 rounds on them with 338 guns at 220 yards or so. Everything worked great, they was one shot from the 338 Sniptac that put a nice bulge in the steel, but at the short range, that big and fast of a bullet, it was kind of expected.

Our springback targets had a great day of beating as well. They worked flawlessly all day. We shot one springback target in particular with the 338 sniptac, and it took a big time hit low on the bolt/welded part just behind the AR500. It gave it a nice dent, but at 220 yards, I am very pleased with the results.

Our spinner was working great, and had its bell rung by multiple 338 lapua hits. It did not seem to be phased one bit by those bullets. No dimpling, no craters, nothing, but it did spin it with some super force on the second shot!!!!! It was pretty impressive....We decided to give the spinner another challange, the 338 Sniptac. This is truly a different animal. At 300, it did not get it over in one shot, but put a super hurting to it. I think the spinner and all brackets/bearing we completely fine until the big bullet hit the edge of the plate, and just put too much torque on it to hold everything together. At 300 yards, the sniptac had something like 6400 Ft/LBS of energy. Thats pretty impressive.

Anyway, the steel, and our backer plate on the spinner held up rather nicely, two big craters from the 338 Sniptac, but the 338 Lapua's really did not even dimple it. I am sure if we sat there and hammered it with a bunch of lapuas, at some point it would wear out. But none the less, I was actually pretty impressed how it handled the 338 Lapua.

All in all, I was happy with everything the steel, brackets, and welded products went through.

Its really tough stuff, anything from matches to personal recreation, I feel confident this stuff will last a very long time.

THe biggest thing to know when shooting steel, is the limitations of the product. No matter wahat you have, there is always something that can hurt it. Even if I would have brought a 2 inch thick plate of AR500, someone else would have brought a grenade launcher or tank to try and blow it up!! Just the nature of the beast,

BUT, I thank you guys for allowing me to test everything out. From the T POST brackets, to the spinner, KYL rack, and the spring back targets, They worked great all day during the match, And thats what I was hoping for.

Have a blesse day.

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks for hosting the match. I had a fun time. Hopefully next time I will do better, but hey someone has to bring up the rear. I think i was a full turn off on my scope.

Re: SHWW Group

I'd like to remind everybody of the work Jim and Jessse put into this. They do it every month.
It's pretty diabolical how easy the stages looked but how the match winner scored less than 50% hits. Good stage design.

Re: SHWW Group

I would just like to say thanks to every one that was out yesterday at the match, mostly Jim and Jesse, It was a great first match. Katie had a blast too.

Re: SHWW Group

Fun match. Glad you all had a good time.
I didn't know until Sunday at 8:15am that we had 18 shooters, so I had to make up the long range stuff on the fly. Sorry about that for you .223 and 308 guys and gal's!
I was concerned that the shoot and move at 450-910 was timed wrong until fuzzy showed us how it was done, firing the last shot at the buzzer.
Jake, watching the spinner go over 12 times after the second hit from my 338 was awesome! Thanks for letting us help you test your steel.

Re: SHWW Group

I loved the long range stuff, as we walked over to the long range stuff I though this would be a great chance to stretch the legs on my 223, even though I knew I was screwed with the swinger.

They're only shooting to 400, so it's nothing a good 5.56 can't handle just as well...

BAIT AND SWITCH!!!! I was bamboozled.

Seriously though, I had a great time. Yet again the two J's put on an awesome event. Thanks.

KYL, were 10/20/30. Only 4 shooters scored points on the KYL, and only one shooter hit the second plate. All other hits are worth 10, besides the cold bore which is 20 and the spinner which has it's own scoring.

Best laid plans of mice and men... They did originally say only out to 400, but I guess that was modified lol...

Re: SHWW Group

Agreed as to the fun had!! I love these matches, especially the laid back atmosphere. Everybody seems to have a great time, and it is very un-intimidating to shooters who may be new, or thinking about trying this sport. Hats off to everyone involved in helping this hobby to the progression levels that it is seeing. Especially to Jim and Jesse, the whole NCW gun club crew, and everyone else who is involved that we dont always get to see. Thank you all very much!!

Jolyn is extremely interested in shooting next month, mainly because of the comradery she has witnessed at the last couple matches she has attended with me.

I personally need to thank TSI for welcoming me to his shoot about a year ago, and introducing me to this hobby. I have always been interested in long range shooting, and enjoy competing regardless of what it is, but the friendships and acquaintinces i have had the pleasure of engaging in, have made this hobby probably one of the best decisions i have ever made.

One of the best things about this sport, in my extremely humble opinion, is how it really doesn't matter who has the best or fastest or most high speed ninja set up, at the end of the day..........skill always seems to prevail. I pleases me greatly knowing that there is not some $10,000 secret squirrel piece of equipment that you have to have to be competitive.

Thank you to everyone involved in these matches from fellow shooters to match directors for keeping it fun and exciting, and enjoyable for new shooters.

Tactical Supply and myself are looking at some pieces of land to put some matches together, to try and alleviate some of the stress off the guys who do it every month for us.

Re: SHWW Group

We down here at Jubilee Youth Ranch would love to host a monthly match as well. If its possible, just let us know!

All guns would be welcome, 338 and under. And we have about a 2500 yard range with steel already set up and ready to go.

Good shooting Jake, and continued success.

Re: SHWW Group

From what I've seen, it would sure be neat to shoot "The Jubilee" some time!

I'm sure you could get a dozen or two of us to come play - put it on and we will show

Re: SHWW Group

Speaking of matches, I'm considering "eventually" putting one on myself. For folks that may be interested in attending, which locale would be better, Deer Park (20 miles N. of Spokane), or just out of Omak WA(90 miles+- north of Wenatchee)? Feel free to drop me with a PM with your choice, as it's still VERY EARLYin the planning stages.

Well I gotta do a target inventory(am sure I'll have to borrow/rent some), and see what garbage err barricade material/props I have around the house. The Omak venue (DNR Lands couple miles west of town)currently has the best option for distances of 1000+ yards easily, but industrial timberlands around Deer Park/Loon Lake warrant more exploring. The DP rental has 200 acres to work with, so I'll sharpen the pencil and do some sketching. Stay tuned...I'll try to get into the diabolical match director mindset...

Re: SHWW Group

My daughter graduated from High School this weekend.

We didn't know if she was walking until Thursday, the day before graduation. Whew. We've been putting all our energy into helping her pass her classes.

Talk about senioritis. She could be the poster child.

But the important thing is that she passed all her classes and fulfilled the requirements. I'm so excited.

Now it's off to Front Sight, on Friday, for a week of trigger pulling and family fun.

Re: SHWW Group

Mister John Galt,

Congratulations,
Don't worry about her though.. I thought I was the only person in the world who had to pass the last test on the last day of class to see if I would graduate. But once I got to college, I graduated with honors, and went on to a very successful career that allowed me to voluntarily retire quite young.

In other words I don't think high school has all that much to do with the rest of your life. Especially if it was only that there was something socially, educationally, emotionally, physically (or whatever the case is) at the high school that made it difficult. I simply hated high school, and did my darnedest to get suspended every few months but not quite enough to be expelled (because I knew what the guidelines were)...I did that whenever the boredom got too great and I just needed a few days away from the BS that was high school.

I'll bet your daughter turns out fine. Have fun at front sight!

Re: SHWW Group

Congratulations on the graduation...man time flies my son is just finishing his second year of college. I can still remember the nurse handing him to me in the hospital, and thinking uh oh, what do I do now.
laugh.gif
All good though, and knock on wood, he's made much better choices than I did in my first 20 years.
wink.gif
(Damn, I over half way into my 3rd 20 years-oh well, nothing I can do about it but enjoy!) Hope the class goes well.

Re: SHWW Group

I definitely appreciate the insight!

She recently enlisted in the US Air Force and with her diploma has her ship out date and her job! Whew. I have no doubt she will excel in her life. She is very creative, smart and ready to hit the ground running. She was smart enough to say that she was not ready to make the college commitment and met with the Air Force recruiter at school. Since my brother is a 22 Air Force guy, she figured it was a smart choice. She about blew us out of the water when she announced it at the dinner table and asked if I would go with her.

I'm very excited about Front Sight. I have gone a few times and really enjoy the atmosphere and the amount of lead you shoot down range. Plus it's great to freshen up those skills that tend to rust when not used. This will by my wife and 4 kid's first time though and, I couldn't be happier. The whole family shooting ~600 rounds each over 4 days.....it's what dreams are made of.

Furthermore, my career choice has been very high stress since the blow up in 2008. So, the atmosphere lends itself to decompression. I've got my associates covering the office and my supervisory duties so hopefully Greece, Spain, Jobs, the economy, etc... won't be mentioned for 10 days.

I'm gonna shoot without ear pro from now on. I think that must allow you to really hear where the bullet is going. It's about using all your senses.

Re: SHWW Group

Hey all. I may have an opportunity for a very good job based in the Mt. Vernon area. I really like Wenatchee and don't especially want to move away, but it's pretty good pay. What are the shooting opportunities like in that area? Longish range (~900 meters) anywhere near there? PM me if you've got ideas so I don't clog up the thread. I'm trying to get info so I can weigh the pros and cons. Thanks.

Re: SHWW Group

Just a short reminder that the practical rifle match scheduled for Saturday 16 June at Upper Nisqually Sportsman's club will be this Saturday.

Course of fire is posted on page 171 of this thread about half way down the page. There are still a couple of slots open.
