Here she is! This is a recent little project for a gent I knew in Iraq. My understanding of this rifle is it's the latest toy for Naval Special Warfare. Allegedly its so new that they don't even have them yet! Stiller makes the actions for it.

No, you can't get one. Not for sale to general public. Least that's what I was told.

My tasking is fitting it and making it behave with the MK248 MOD1 ammo without having to kick the bolt open with your boot. I guess the MK13MOD5 is a bit tempermental.

I tested it and the ammo today at 165*F. No issues! Woo Hoo!

    More range time hopefully tomorrow.

    Going home!

    AAC brake/can mount fitting:

I differed a bit from the supplied print. This way I have two concentric cylinders supporting the inside of the brake. Should help to make the can rock solid during recoil.

    Here's the rifle:

    Ammunition:

Fired cases: One at room temp, the other was heat soaked to 165*F along with the gun, then fired. You can see the primer is flattened a bit more and a faint ejector mark by the "F" on the case rim. Even at this elevated temp it still ran good. I'm optimistic my new chamber revision will squash this problem. (function issues related to the hot load behind a 220 grain bullet)

I just had a "slap yourself on the forehead" moment. That makes a lot of sense!

Exactly what I said too. Not my cup of tea, but its where all this stuff seems to be going.

The left side of the receiver looks exactly like my teams newest Mk13. I will have to check but the serials are also within a few digits of each other. Wonder how he got the action but good for him. Our older Mk13 is on a R700 LA.

Barrel contour and suppressor attachment is completely different however from ours, and we have a regular AICS 2.0 stock.

Should be an awesome performing rifle though.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

    Nice looking work as usual.

A couple people I've talked to wouldn't touch the mod 1 ammo with a 10' pole because of the issues it showed in their existing rifles.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

Pretty sure I have the ammo problem resolved. We'll see. Supposed to be a warm one today so it'll be a good opportunity to try it. (as warm as western SD gets in early May-it'll probably snow this afternoon!)

This is privately owned, but the owner isn't exactly "conventional" so to speak.

Secret handshakes occasionally extend beyond the green machine club.

The Mod 6 uses the AX Chasis vice the previous AICS 2.0 along with a new can and barrel profile.

No more KAC cans, it is AAC and Surefire now.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

Good to know lw8. Our new one is Mod 5, not sure about the older one.

    lw8 summed it up!!
The Mod 6 has definately evolved for the better.
If I ever need a 300win, this will be the one, once avail.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

Very nice, I really like the look of the new AICS setups.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

    How did it shoot?

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

Spent the day dickering with the dmv today. Plates, dl renewel, etc. . .

Wind came up around noon to 50+mph gusts.

No range time 2day germs. Hope to wring it out in the morning.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

I tested again late yesterday. Cooked the ammo in the ckote oven per the navVspec requirements for heat. 2 hour soak @165 didn't seem to hurt anything. It shot great. Piled up a nice clover at 200.

Will shoot some more next week at 300/600 to see if were inside the ammo performance spec as listed in the gov publication.

So far so good. Ejection is weak though. Had many cases flop in the port. Il fiddle with the extractor before going out again.

Interesting, any thoughts on why the ejection might be weak? Is the fired case hitting the optic?

I experienced this too with a long action caliber on a Stiller action. Among other things, the small radius at the front of the port seemed to divert the spent case directly into the windage knob, disrupting the ejection cycle.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

2 minutes worth of file work fixed it. 45* chamfer on the top side of the xtractor fixed the problem. Runs like a champ now.

Thanks to Jerry/Russ for the help.

Are you using this reamer with some mods made?

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

    Cool. I like that action.

In the process of building mine. I'm going with the Mod 5, but with the M110 supressor vs the mk11 supressor

If that's the new AAC 90t mount then you wasted your time with all that muzzle work. The new 90t mounts for the MK13 suppressors mount up ROCK solid. Also the key to getting them to really tightening up is to face the brake at a 45 degree angle taking away any slop in the face of the ratchet teeth. It also lets it grab the next set of teeth and lock up really tight. I do all my brakes on a lathe now and its worth the extra few minutes. But my 90t mount did not need anything. The new system is good to go.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

Who as the AI AX chassis in stock with the 16" rail? I've only seen 13" railed chassis for sale for long action Rem 700's.

    Any update on the boomstick?

Check Midway. Long actions come with long rails.

I did. It says "13" tube and rails". Unless they just copied and pasted the short action AX description for the long action AX.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

Is the barrel on that hammer forger? I am only asking because of the markings on it in the picture of your threading job. And I was also interested in the total weight of the rifle and optic?

I like it but I haven't felt an AX chassis myself yet so haven't decided if I like the stock yet.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

MK13M6 is not available for civilian sales. Least not to the best of my knowledge.

    How's and why's aren't appropriate for discussion so I won't comment.

Funny, I thought the first post by Chad pretty well covered this:

Maybe I just read to much into a post sometimes.

    Re: MK13 MOD6/300WM MK248 MOD1

There was one running around for sale, it was damn pricey and I know that I turned down the offer to buy it... Don't ask where cause that is all I am saying on the matter.

But there is at least one running around.

If you don't mind, about how much do you expect one of those to go for with the optic?
