Rifle Scopes SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Even if they sold 500 scopes at 300 a piece, that's a $150,000 worth of merchandise... that's still fairly substantial. My entire point is - this isn't some small run $10,000 order where you can potentially blow a buyer off and keep them out of the loop.

If I go to a car dealership and buy $150,000 worth of cars for our business, the dealer is going to kiss my ass and call me to let me know of any holdups. If something is late, they will call the factory to figure out what the hell the delay is, because they want my repeat business.

Just sayin. Trying to sell merchadise with less than 100 posts is a big no-no. Just trying to protect you from the ban hammer.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'm sorry Pete - I'm a bit on the defensive from the attacks in here. To be honest - I wasn't even trying to sell it. I'd hate to curse someone else with this wait.

Who knows - maybe Chakup really does want it and is trying to get me to 100 posts?

I appreciate you looking out for me. I also wasn't aware we couldn't sell prior to 100 posts. I guess I have another reason to post vs lurk.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Are you my inventory manager now? Since it's important to you. FWIW- I order the 5-20/1-6 combo and received zilch, zero, nada. Like I said before yeah it sucks. It would be great to be out playing with new toys. But when you save this kind of $$$ on a product like this you know up front it'll be a wait. Did I hope the guess of a Summer delivery would be true- Hell yes. Was it ever promised- NO. Had SWFA promised a delivery date and failed- BITCH AWAY. They didn't. Those who ordered chose to do so with NO GUARANTEED DELIVERY DATE. If you wanna bitch do so about the fact YOU made a choice YOU are not happy with.

Just saying

More importantly - chakup, which products did you order, and what are you waiting on?

In fact, anyone who is critical of those of us who are complaining about the lack of information - exactly what did you order and what are you waiting on, and were you charged, yet?

I'm just curious how many got products and how many are waiting. I wish I knew what kinda volume they sold. </div></div>

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Chakup, I already covered most of this in my prior posts a page or two ago. I'm not repeating it all. Check: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3492175#Post3492175 http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3492175#Post3492175

I'm not your inventory manager. I just wanted an honest apples to apples comparison, but we're not in the same boat.

I'm not as bitter about the long wait as you might think - though I was expecting it summer 2012 to use for 3 gun... I'm more bitter about getting charged the full price for the 5-20 and having no choice in it.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">My grip in this situation was that I got charged 80%/20%. I paid 100% for scope 1, which is like 80% the total cost for the order, yet scope 1's price should only be like 55% of my order total (1300 / 999. IMO, the discount distribution should have been split up differently.

If there was a 1 month delay between those charges, then big deal - its a non-issue. However, for any customer who charged these (I'm betting most did), then that is 6 billing cycles where you are paying interest on a partial payment that was deducted for a product not yet in your hands. </div></div>

At some point in 4+ months of waiting, it would also be nice to have some type of update, but I do understand SWFA's side of that. I'd still give updates, but I just wouldn't attach dates, but that's on them, not me.

SWFA currently does not have a single dollar of your money - and I'm not sure if you feel good or bad about that. Maybe you'd rather be in my shoes with $1313 less, and the 5-20 in your hands. If that's the case, I'm sorry.

My issue is that I jumped into this buy only because the savings were so great on the combo, but I really only needed the 1-6. This is probably why I'm so darn bitter. lol.

I'm sorry to all of you waiting on the 5-20 who were in desperate need of that scope - trust me if I had a choice, I would have held it to ship the complete order to me so you guys needing the 5-20's would have them, first.

And I fully agree with the guy posting below - I feel terrible for anyone waiting 5+ months for a warranty replacement - that is unacceptable.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

To me the only people on here with a valid gripe are the ones that are on hold for a warranty replacement. That right there is BS. Me I knew I'd be waiting on the 1-6 I ordered before I ever clicked the order button with no specific delivery date listed. Would it be nice to have weekly updates? Yep you bet, but I'd rather not know than get strung along hearing "oh next week!" and be let down 30 times between order and delivery. Plus on the SWFA facebook page they have said "any day now!" since July I think I saw.

I'm in need of both scopes! I have a Ma-Ten build that is glassless and my AR is glassless. Maybe it's me but I guess guns are just sexier wearing glass(es)

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Then I'm sorry I was given glass that you needed. Had I a choice, you'd only be glassless on 1. :-(

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

The above poster said best- those waiting on waranty are the ones I feel bad for. SWFA should have alotted 'x' number of 5-20's for this

Although I disagree with your opening statement I do fall into that category. For the tenth or so time -> SWFA has a large financial commitment from a lot of people, on this forum and others. Based on that they gained REAL quantifiable business value. For that they owe folks more information and more courtesy.

This is just more of the same standard of extremely low expectations that seem to be the norm. Just because Vortex did the same thing some years back or because a few other (even if it is most...) firearm companies have CRAP customer service, that simply is not justification for everyone regressing to the same bad behavior. There appears to be a significant complacency problem here.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I am not deploying, or competing, or doing anything else of a time sensitive nature, I just want to shoot my rifle with glass again. So it is not an urgent matter for me, and I am content to wait. But I would like information. Any information other than "soon, any day now, probably next month".

Ding... You win a dollar.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I don't know where several folks are getting this idea that SWFA never promised a delivery date. They pretty much do everyday with their ad here for the 1-6X - says its available this summer. Granted, their website says that they're taking pre-orders, but a summer delivery date is infered.

I also agree with several posters here who are frustrated with the website's lack of inventory status. I order regularly from MidwayUSA and Brownells, both of which show you up front if an item is in stock. Midway goes a step further and gives you an estimated "in stock" date. How handy is that! I know it would be a little more work, but SWFA would gain serious points if they went to such a system.

I check this thread at least once a day looking for news of any kind. I'm not in any hurry, but I sure will be happy once my combo scopes are in my hands . . . better yet mounted atop a couple of rifles.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

The last official day of summer is September 21st...so they've got 3.5 weeks until the "inferred delivery date" is passed.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I agree real info from SWFA is warranted. Hopefully they will read all this latest here and make an honest straight forward statement for everyone

We talked about this quite some pages ago... I think by the most common definition of summer it is over. They have about a week for the second most common. There is also the date you mention but that is the geeky/uncommon definition.

Depends...

Meterological definition (weather based): End of August
American Calendar definition: Labor day (1st weekend in September)
Equinox definition (astronomical): September 21

I think both of the first two definitions are much more common and frequently used than "yours" the astronomical one. Well that suits the idea that I might get my scopes just a hair sooner as well

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Swamp2, oh I agree on most points and I can understand some frustration. Just for me the savings out weighed the customer service side on this particular buy. For optics and accesories I quit buying from SWFA a while ago and have found other places with much better web sites and CS that give in stock status that I may pay a little more sometimes and sometimes not. But it's worth knowing that item is in stock and ready if I need it in a hurry. It's just for what I'm getting these scopes for I'm willing to be patient and wait it out. Like you said in this particular case my expectations are super low then when it finally does arrive on my door I'll be pleasently surpised (I hope.)

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

A greater issue is if you have a problem, it may be a very long time before you can get it fixed or replaced.

SWFA, I hope you read this comment. This is EXACTLY how I feel. I was wronged on my prior purchases with you, and I went in on this group buy *ONLY* because price was right. There's no brand loyalty yet, because these are my first SWFA SS HD scopes. There's no vendor loyalty, because you've botched my prior orders.

Hi-end optics are a very niche market. This is a very niche website in that market. If you continue down this path, it will eventually hit your wallet.

As I said in the past, I've spent thousands upon thousands on scopes with other vendors. If you can't start meeting some of the basic Customer Service needs its going to bleed over to other sites, and eventually even controlling opticstalk won't save it.

This thread is 20 pages long. There's threads like this one at most of the other larger sites where this facebook promo was posted. I can't even fathom why you haven't had a CSR in here doing some damage control.

Like I said pages ago, this feels like I funded a kickstarter project... It lacks that professional feel of a well-organized build process with solid communication.

I'll be thrilled when my finally 1-6 gets here - I intend to really put it through some work. Hopefully its as great of a scope as everyone's hyped it up to be. The 5-20 is pretty solid, but its not any better or worse than my other hi-end optics.

The price on this combo was great, which is why I bought it, but hearing 5+ month RMA's, I'm scared shitless should either of these ever break. Hopefully that will be a non-issue for me.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'm one of the unlucky ones that is in the 5+ month RMA situation...

My guess is, SWFA won't make this mistake again and from now on will keep some scopes in stock for RMA... at least I hope they won't make this mistake again.

Still patiently waiting.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I hope everyone eventually gets their scopes.

That being said I am VERY glad that I didn't participate in this GB and bought an ACOG for my AR instead.

I still remember the Vortex PST debacle and I seem to recall some issues with the first 5-20 release a couple of years ago as well as I know that I cancelled my pre-order despite the great deal.

Those two times were enough for me to realize that no matter the "savings" by participating in these deals the frustration of not having a product (while possibly having paid for it) just isn't worth it to me. Anymore I don't order anything unless it is in stock.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Well... I couldn't wait any longer.... I have a completion in 6 weeks and can not wait any long to start training, so I bought a different scope. I’ll keep this one on order and will decide what to do with it once it gets here, but I am not happy about the long wait with no feedback from SWFA. I have put off training with my AR because I was told “any day now” for 5 weeks….. I can not wait any longer.

Most of the people I’ve talked to about this scope don’t understand why I waited this long to buy a different scope. Whether the delay is SWFA’s fault or not, these guys have stated they will not do business with SWFA because of my experience. I’d like to defend SWFA, but what can I say to convince them otherwise….. SWFA’s silence is deafening...

The group buy was nice, but the lack of customer service after the fact leaves a lot to be desired. In the end SWFA will get my money, but likely never again.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Very good group buy discount. Oh, you are still waiting for your scope? And the one you did get that has a problem will be replaced...........when?

Someone seems to have dropped the ball.

Sadly this is most of our sentiments I think.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I think it was a FB promotion.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Has anyone thought to go onto their Facebook page and "unlike" the page? Perhaps an organized event that results in a significant drop in the number of likes (which currently totals 17,370) will get their attention.

If that's too complicated then maybe just posting some of these frustrations on their wall would work?

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I hate that this is my first post here but I also ordered the scopes and have been (im)patiently waiting without any word. Well, I did get an email a month after I placed the order that informed me some of the items on my order (READ: All) are on back-order.

I understand the brand and vendor loyalty that goes on here as well as other forums and in general the gun ownership/enthusiast community, but enough is enough. In business, nothing supersedes making the customer happy. It's understandable the scopes aren't in yet; whether they're stuck in customs, or further up the supply chain at the manufacturer's assembly table. But to not have any communication at all, even an acknowledgement of the issues causing the delay, is completely unnacceptable. It's the easiest way to lose customers and gain a bad reputation.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I still think some people are being impatient about this whole situation. The scopes ETA are by end of summer which hasn't come yet, and shit happens which could delay it further.

That said I do see a reason for those with warranties to complain. It would be best is a fair amount to be kept on hand for this purpose, but the same thing happened when the PST's came out. They quickly ran out of warranty replacements and people had to wait months for the next batch though I don't think it was 5+ months.

I am a little surprised nobody from SWFA has come in to do a little damage control. I don't think people should be complaining so much in the first place but a short and sweet "There are some delays and we are working our best to get your products to you" would go a long ways for those who have to be pointed out the obvious.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I understand people have been waiting for these for months now, myself included, but there is a reason why you got a smoking deal.....you helped offset their costs to bring this product to market. There isn't a single person who took advantage of this deal that wasn't informed this was a PRE-ORDER. You saved hundreds of dollars knowing there was a chance these would take a while to receive.

I will say, SWFA would do themselves a favor by giving everyone an honest status update. I also feel bad for those who are waiting on warranty repairs. The stituation SWFA has created was a poor business decision, and it has bit them in the ass with lost future business and a bad rep.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'm going to start looking for a different scope. After the posts in this thread of the last week or so and still a deafening silence from SWFA I can only assume they aren't going to respond at all.

That's a shame too, but another supplier will come up with a viable option. Sport Optics, Bear Basin, Optics Planet or another will be happy to communicate with a customer about an order.

That is not an accurate statement. If you purchased the combo from the Facebook page, or from another site, you would have been unaware of the delay unless you actually read through this thread, or tried buying *just* the 1-6 first.

The 5-20/1-6 combo page actually gave the impression both items were in stock and readily available. That red, pre-order text was missing. I know this, because I ordered the combo and took note of that.

I only knew it was not in stock due having skimmed some of this thread prior to purchase - however, I didn't realize at that point, it'd be summer until it shipped, only to find out it might be end of summer, or longer.

I just want to clear that up.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Since i haven't seen any "I just called and..." type posts, I just gave them a call to see if we have anything new.

No, nothing new, and Skylar couldn't give me any information other than 'the summer'. He could not answer if they have left the factory, if they were in transit via ocean freighter, at the clearing house, inspected by customs, nothing.

For the people interested in canceling.

If you have not received anything, just call and cancel. If you have not received anything, just call and cancel.

If you have the 5-20 that you paid full retail for and its new in box, you can return it for a full refund and cancel your combo

If you have mounted and the 5-20 isn't in new condition anymore you can still return it but you will need to negotiate with them since they are receiving a used product. He couldn't give me any other details on the price they would offer other than each would be individually evaluated based on condition.

Nothing great, but in the last several pages, I didn't see any kind of updates or factual information.

On the plus side, he was very patient and friendly. He just kept telling me he can give me absolutely no time frame other than the summer.

Concerning the questions about "can you unlike something?", you can. Just go to the original link here - http://www.facebook.com/swfacom just click the "like" you gave and select unlike. its not complicated.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

UPDATE

Our initial ETA was early summer and we were hesitant to put that out there because inevitably delays occur. There are many variables in play that make it very difficult to nail a delivery date on a new product.

We have always been open and transparent in regards to these deals and at times probably too transparent as with the 5-20x launch in which all the details just added fuel to the fire.

We have been absent for many reasons and none of them because we do not care about our customers. We have too many irons in the fire currently including construction planning on our new facility which has been extremely time consuming.

We missed our first deadline due to complications with the reticle design. We had to switch reticle vendors in order to have the reticle precisely the way we want it and this is costing us roughly double the cost compared to the original reticle supplier. Without going into details there are several manufacturing limitations in regards to reticles that have both illuminated portions and non illuminated portions, these limitations are greatly compounded when you are dealing with a first focal plane reticle. Add fine subtentions and the need for a high intensity setting and it gets very difficult.

We thought we had overcome these problems as our initial reticle supplier assured us that it is not a problem. They kept pushing back the delivery little by little but not enough for us to pass on the news. Finally it became evident that they were not able to produce the reticle as designed and their delays where due to failed attempts.

We could have stuck it out with that vendor and probably be very close to delivering scopes by now but we opted to go with a new vendor that has not only gotten it right the first time but has even made the reticle to higher specs than we had previously thought were not possible.

Now the carefully orchestrated aligning of component supply is no longer aligned as we wait for the new vendor to tool up and get us worked into their production line. Every other component is ready and has been ready so once reticles start coming in they will be installed and shipped in small batches. Normally we would ship in large quantities as it is much more economical but in this case we will have them air freighted in, in small quantities as little as 25 units so that we can get them to our customers that are patiently waiting.

We just got samples of the reticle in this week and have finished our testing and have passed them on to Jon Aadland for further evaluation and testing. So now we are waiting on the new reticle vendor to provide us with an ETA.

I apologize for us being absent on all the forums that we typically stay very active on but it truly is a case of being a small family owned and operated business that is way under staffed and way over worked.

The end result will be worth it. The scope is very specialized and unique. We are proud of it and know that you will be too once you finally get to lay your hands on yours.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Great, now I have a hard choice. Do I buy a scope to get me through the 3-gun and hunting season or pray it'll get here. I'm guessing it'll be Christmas before I see it so looks like I may have to give Vortex a call.

I would have liked this update sooner, but understand why it was held back. I appreciate any official update, but still find it annoying as I was counting on this scope for use in Oct.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Well there ya go. They do know what is going on, and have known all along. Everyone is grateful you found a minute out of your busy summer to keep your customers informed.

hotbrass,

I cannot find you in our system from your profile e-mail address and there is no name listed in your profile.

Have you already recieved your SS 5-20x?

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Thank you SWFA. So if retical is going to be even higher standard of quality than even you guys imagined then I am truly stoked about that. I am glad you decided to go with the new reticle vendor in this case. The reticle design in the prototype review was MAJOR reason I got excited about the SS 1-6x HD. That, and what seems will be a terrific scope in this niche at a great price, even without promo deals. Please be vigilant here and keep us informed from time to time. That will settle well with most of us here and the natives will not be so restless. This fact about reticle, this makes the wait much for palatable for me, tha ms you for update

Please do not forget to inform the guys who have a SS 5-20 rma status.

Thanks for the update, SWFA

How exactly has the reticle changed? Is the illumination still going to be as good or better than the 1-4 (super bright, daylight-visible high end, nice, dim low end)? Are the subtensions and reticle thickness roughly the same as the pictures that were published? If not, would you mind posting details of the new reticle?

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Thanks for the update, but what about the 5-20's? When will they be back in stock? Are the reticles in the 5-20 also being made by the new reticle vendor? If so are they to remain exactly the same? If not what will they look like?

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

SWFA, the minute you guys changed suppliers and had to retool and start the process over again and overshoot the shipment dates you guys should have told us. We don't all care about the wait - we care about being kept in the dark. :-(

With that said, I fully appreciate the depth of the update. Hopefully, your customer service team will continue communication, as you get additional news.

I think there's quite a few of us waiting on these 1-6's for 3-gun competitions. I know I am. Realistically, what kind of timeframe are we looking at now? Fall? Winter? Next Spring? I ask, because I need to make arrangements. I don't need a hard date, I just need a realistic guess.

Thanks.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

SWFA, you guys, when we get thru the SS 1-6's then we can start talking about a
SS 1-8x HD. Dare I say 1-10?

The end result will be worth it. The scope is very specialized and unique. We are proud of it and know that you will be too once you finally get to lay your hands on yours. </div></div>

What about those waiting on the 5-20's, any update on them? Me and someone else split the deal and I'm waiting on the 5-20.

+1. I am assuming their entire post was on the 1-6. I'm trusting the reticle on the 5-20 was not redesinged/resourced.
