Fieldcraft Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

Well let me add my .02 worth..
Me I'm just buying guns and ammo, food, and water, survival stuff, to make it interesting after the Rapture. I won't be here anyway. figure I'll leave some stuff around.. LOL

Note
Nodding Disease,
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/03/21/my...andan-children/

Seems there is a couple of things here.
1. The Myan Calendar
2. The Rapture (end of times)
3. Political Collapse
4. The Yellowstone Volcanoes, sunami"s

I din't prep for any Y2K stuff, my friends stored water and food, dry goods. He asked me what i have stored, I replied "AMMO". He has a stock of ammo now too.

I live in Alaska, we monitor all Volcanoes, Earthquakes, worldwide. These are public websites to view.
There are an increse in earthquakes, volcano activity. do you know there is a Volcano now in the Aleutian Chain that has been elevated to Yellow Warnings? Not much about it in the news.
Japan sunami, Iceland Volcano.
Earthquakes in Missour and Arkansas? Long time since there has been activity in that area for earthquakes. I was raised in Arkansas.

Do you actually believe the US can afford to keep paying the national debt? Who owns the land between you and your neighbor? Alot of the foreign investors are under the pretense of "United furniture Store" prudential life. I for one was surprised to see the Rice Allotments in Arkansas, and who owns them. LOTS of investors and LLC and Corporations. NOT you and me.

gas prices here are up every 2-3 days. 4.09 to 4.32 a gallon in Anchorage from a month ago. Hell and We ship the oil from here. The Kenai Penisula was at 4.41 about 3 weeks ago when i was there.

Have you noticed the grain commodities?
Soybeans $12 bushel
Wheat $6 a bushel.
not too long ago 7-8 a bushel of beans were good. 3-4 for a bushel of wheat. was good.

Here is a scenerio.
What happens to all the people on prozac, Xanax, and prescribed medicine when the Price or Politics or ???? makes these prescriptions unavailable?
How many kids are taking prescriptions for ADD, ADHD?
I didn't know of anyone or heard of this when I was raised. Now seems to be norm..

Me, I don't beleive anything I hear in the news, from CNN, Local news.
My Grandpa told me not to belive anything I hear and half of what I see and that'll be near the truth.

Cheers John
YMMV

Oh, dang. They found it. Nobody had thought to dig down to the next level of glyphs. Relax dudes, there is a future.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

I figure some folks are gonna want to worry about something, no matter what. My only quibble is to marvel at how creative some folks can get about finding what it is they need to worry about. If I wanted to find something to worry about; I imagine I really wouldn't need to look much further than a block or two...

But Mayan pyramids, wow! Those folks NEED something to worry about, eh?

Unfortunately it is only like 180 days or so. I suggest you invest in brewing skills and material. That way you will be the Rockefeller of the post apocalityc world. Plus you would be safe. Who would want to kill the only guy that can make beer in the area. Unless its zombies then you're screwed.

beer is good for WAY longer than 180 days... the brewing companies just figured out ( along w/ all the other food companies ) that idiots would believe an expiration date on anything.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

People do realize the Mayan calendar didn't factor in leap years don't they? The leap year was created by Julius Ceasar and the new Julian Calendar in 46 BC. There have been over 500 leap years since it's creation. So sorry folks but the the Mayan December 2012 was last year......and we're all still here.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

Prepping is just another form of insurance, its not necessarily the beleif that the SHTF is inevitable. You cant plan for every eventuality but if you can reduce your vulnerability with a few simple measures, why not.

We had an earthquake here last year, and dispite numerous Civil Defence warnings and advertisments recommending a meagre 3 days water/food storage in general, you wouldnt beleive how many people were out within a day of it.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

Those who don't prepare for events such as weather, or man made, will not pass go on their final test.
I was taught, like most around here you don't wait for events to unfold, best to prepare prior to.
Hard not to laugh at folks that wanted to sue the power company's during the last storms up north a few weeks back. Looking at the toys in their yards and the big homes they lived in during TV interviews was a look, into what they thought was important in life. Shame their kids had to suffer for the parents wants, many folks put their family's safety first by separating, wants from needs.

Then again many of today's folks, are over extended by their parents teachings at birth, and never have a fighting chance from the get go.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

After going through a week without electricity from a big ice storm in Oklahoma in 02 I tend to be prepared. Even more so now that I have a wife with child and a 21 month old son. I've always camped, hunted and fished, so those skills tend to help out during hard times. Plus a little back up ewater filtration/ purification along with salt, beans, rice and oatmeal will get you by.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

I bet some of the folks in India wishes they had prepared a little more. 600 million people out of electricity for two days. I hope they have generators to run the water systems, things are going to get gamey in the populated areas if they don't. 600 million, that is equal to the entire population of the U. S. X 2.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

Preparing for? I'm praying for one. The sooner the better. I figure I'm better able to survive than my kids will be years from now.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

Anyone have any info on long term storage on ammo?

Does a standard mil-spec ammo tin with the seal in the lid cut it?

Cool dry place is the key to long-term storage.

I've shot 100 year old 9mm and 7.62x25 rounds and .45 acp and .30-06 from WW1 vintage without problems. WW2 and Korean vintage is equally as effective.

Anything mfd in the past fifty I wouldn't think twice about.

YMMV.

Re: Anyone preparing for a diaster such as 2012?

You will grow old and die before you ammo does if it's stored in a GI Ammo Can in an atmosphere that you can stand.

I'm 66 and yesterday I was just shooting some Russian 7,62x54R steelcase ammo that's 3 years older that I am, in a Russian 91/30 Mosin-Nagant rifle from the very same year. Every shot would have been fatal at 200yd if I was following Russian Infantry Musketry training doctrine and aiming at the belt buckle.

Uncle Sugar has usually known how to store his ammo, and it doesn't just work with USGI ammo
