OBR or LWRC

Im not going to lie and say Im going to buy either anytime soon, because Im not going to be here to shoot it. But, one day or another I will buy a 7.62 autoloader and I want years of research before I do...

So my question is, If you were a lazy hog like my self, would you give up OBR accuracy for a cleaner gas piston? And if I am missing the point all together, throw it out there please. Id like to hear the pro-con argument and the conclusion you come to.

Excuse the boot post. Im sure this has been argued to death and I am unaware of where to find it.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

Well, I bought the OBR, but I was not comparing it to the LWRC when I did. I havent had any problems keeping it clean. I suppose I can see the draw of a piston gun for a carbine that is seeing a lot of volume, but my OBR is a precision weapon that rarely sees more than 250rd at a time. With that kind of light duty, I haven't found the dirty nature of direct impingement to be a problem.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

What I would spend 3k on is the rent. But I bought a LWRC just for the piston system as I don't clean as much as I maybe should, and I run suppressed whenever possible.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

I bought an OBR, and looked hard at the REPR. I should have looked at the GAP rifle also, though I really like my OBR. I think both are fine weapons, but you'll spend more than $3k. Closer to $5k once you factor in optics and more for a can.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

LWRC, but that's more the ergonomics on the REPR/SPR that I like, and the piston, and the Ceracoat, oh and the ease of maintenance, and the still better than average accuracy out of an auto-loader.
Nothing against the OBR, I just like the LWRC more.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

It all depends on what you are using the firearm for is what I always tell people. If I wanted spectacular accuracy I would have most likely bought a GAP10, even though the handguard is hideous.
I like my REPR because it runs very clean and it has better accuracy than I am capable of at the moment. If I didnt buy the REPR I was going to buy a brand new PWS piston gun, just love the side charger of the REPR.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

I'm not a fan of Larue products but the OBR will be more accurate than the REPR.

With all due respect, aren't you the guy who has only shot his REPR twice, and had problems with it because of parts that you elected to change? As such, do you really think you are in a position to give advice on this topic?

Re: how would you spend 3k?

JP LRP-07 is an awesome product but is slightly more than 3k. The side charging handle, triger group, reliability and accuracy are hard to top. Plus the rifle is lighter than most. I've run over 800 rounds through mine with out cleaning and had zero malfunctions. Piston systems are over rated.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

OBR /Thread.

I know quite a few of the posters on this forum don't care for Mark LaRue. My personal experience with him and his staff is nothing but excellent. They really took care of me when I had an issue, that had nothing to do with them, with my NIB OBR that wasn't actually quite NIB. Since getting it back (after they function tested it for me) I have shot nothing but sub MOA and the rifle has functioned flawlessly.

It's an amazing rifle that is more accurate than me at this point and built extremely well. In regards to it getting dirty, so far not an issue for me. It's very easy to clean and with the FGGM ammo I'm using it doesn't get very dirty at all. My AR15's get much dirtier, then again I shoot a lot more ammo through them since the ammo is cheaper. The only part that gets a bit dirty is the BCG and the combo of a couple qtips and aerosol CLP make short work of cleaning the inside of the carrier out. The outside is chromed and literally just wipes off.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

The accuracy of any rifle varies. For example, if you take 10 new OBR's set up the exact same way there will be a variation in the accuracy with some being better than others. And that's the same for anything that is manufactured, it's simply a numbers game.

With that said, how much accuracy do you NEED based on your intended use?

Let me float this example bye you with the understanding that there are many counter examples based on other experiences. The take home I see in this is that costing more and being the "best" for me are not mutually exclusive.

I pull up to our 600 yard range and there is a car down at the 100 yard mark. I drive down and talk to a guy shooting his scoped 20" OBR 7.62 with plans to move back in 100 yard increments to 600 so he can check his dope.

Sounds good to me so I set up my steel, tell him he can feel free to shoot it and proceed. We get to 600 both shooting prone and I hit 6" steel 10:10 and he's hitting 6" steel 4:10(with 3 practice shots at IPSC steel to check dope and adjust first). Turns out we were both shooting 168 FGMM.

I've had my 20" free floated AR10 with SPR barrel for about 8 years and have done nothing to it but clean it since I got it.

You may want to consider putting the $3k toward a "good" package and see how well you do with it after you've gotten to know her well.

Re: how would you spend 3k?

It seems you should decide based what the weapons primary function will be.
Battle rifle = LWRC
Gas Gun steel banger = OBR
