Just wanted to take a minute to recommend my man Aaron at Roberts Precision Rifles - Aaron Roberts Houston Texas Riflesmith Gunsmith if anyone is looking for a great gunsmith in the Houston Texas area. Aaron is an extremely knowledgable 'smith with walls of shooting awards to back up his professionalism.

I went to Aaron with a problem, and he dropped what he was doing to help me out. He was very courteous, professional, and honest. He didnt try and sell me a thing and purely offered me his support. It is rare I meet someone of this caliber (pun intended) who is not arrogant or strictly out to gouge people for money. If your looking to get impeccable work done, I promise he wont let you down!

Let me say I have only dealt with Aaron on the phone but that it was a pleasant and professional experience. He answered all my questions and showed interest while not pushing the sale like a used car salesman. I have sent a lot of rifle work out not knowing he was right in my backyard. Due to how he handled my questions I will be taking some work to him when I get back into town. I will let everyone know how it goes.

You make your first post to recommend a gunsmith.

So what did he do for you exactly? What was the problem?

Aaron has done allot for me, tuning factory guns, fixing what other smiths screwed up, and building guns from the ground up, always great work, always great experience, and the guns shoot lights out.

A little over a year ago I took him a Stiller Tac30, barrel, and Manners stock - and, about 3 weeks later, picked up a 260 Remington that shot about .3MOA.

I recommend Aaron's work, strongly.

He is building a 300WM for me now, on the range shortly. I have high hopes, and have yet to be let down with Aaron's work.

Well kind of embarrassing, but here goes. I have a brand new savage 110 BA in 338 LM. Bought a scope (KonusPro M30 8.5-32x52mm). On the first trip to the range I was attempting to zero the scope and found it was shooting around 6 feet to the left and I ran out of windage adjustment. I returned the scope and was sent a second one. Mounted and rough boresighted, and returned to the range to zero. Exact same problem. Thinking there was no way two scopes would give me the same problem, I was under the impression that possibly the holes drilled in the receiver were crooked from the factory. Not wanting to deal with customer service, I sought the help of a gunsmith. Aaron stopped what he was doing and brought me out in the parking lot where he boresighted in the same manner. Then he made an elevation adjustment on the scope, returned it to where it was originally and showed me how the little adjustment had changed the horizontal position. He then brought out a Leupold Mark 4 and had me do the exact same test. The Leupold returned to zero exactly how it should, and he explained to me the many reasons why scopes cost as much as they do. Noting that the range I currently go to maxes out at 600 yards, I figured the scope would suffice for the time being......boy was I wrong.

Aaron explained this to me in a professional manner, and just by looking at his many shooting awards, cleanliness and organization of his shop. And the quality of some of his work, I was quite impressed to say the least. I am new to longrange and scopes, (was a grunt in the corps so 500 or less with iron sights), and if there is one thing I have learned......"Cheap glass costs more than expensive glass." A mistake I wont make again.

Jlight... Now that is a class act kind of guy. Aaron is known already around my circle of friends as a great guy and smith I was wondering what he had done for you so that others could see... Just trying to draw out a little more then... "Yes he is good"
Everyone has a different opion as to what is good and what is mediocre....

Good post and welcome to the hide!!

While I was at the local range I shot a 308 custom remington that he built. The owner had just zeroed it in at 100 and asked me if I wanted to shoot it. There was noone else there so I went prone and hit the 300 target I had just put up. I shot at a 1" square that was on the target and hit center 5 oclock.

Remington action
Leupold Mark IV 4.5-14x50 w/TMR reticle.
Federal GMM
Stock unknown
That kind of accuracy is not common.

I believe I would have him build one for me if I was having one built.

Aaron has built 4 rifles for me: a .223 (by far, my favorite rifle), a .260, a .243, and more recently a 6x45. ALL are hammers, and all were done in a very timely manner and with a competitive price. I am running my 223 this PRS season, where applicable. For me, the cost is not the important thing, nor is the turnaround, the access and willingness to share honest feedback are worth the price of admission alone. He's a good dude.
