fake scout sniper?

I'm not a ranger, never been to ranger school nor been assigned to a ranger bat.

But its my opinion a ranger is a ranger, as long as he has the tab (completed Ranger School). Whether he is in a bat. or not, is the luck of the draw.

A ranger in a line (infantry) company is every bit as much a ranger as one in the ranger bn.

Nope. There is a deference. Not to disrespect anyone with a tab who is not in a Ranger Bat. Getting your tab is quite an accomplishment. Ranger School is basically a leadership school. You get your tab and go bavk to your regular unit. Period. Being in a Ranger Bat, means you fall under socom and you do stuff that is totally different then guys in the "regular" Army.

Saying you are an Airbourne Ranger, when in fact, your are just Ranger qualified, I think, is a little disingenuous. Its just confusing as you don't go to Seal training and get you Trident or go SF and get your tab without being in one of those units after the training.

I'm not looking down on those who are tabbed only. They learn valuable lessons about leadership and about themselves in Ranger School, which in turns makes them a better leader and hopefully they can pass thise skills on to those who they lead.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "luck of the draw", but they don't recruit for the Ranger Bat out of Range School grads. Even if you are tabbed (at least when I was in), you still had to go through a selection process. You ask to be assigned. I was with 7th ID when I went to the Ranger Bat. I called DOD and ended up getting in touch with someone at SOCOM to get get a chance to go. It as up to me to make it through Airborne training and RIP . If you wan it bad enough, you can get a chance, but obviously you have to have a needed MOS.

I have a question for you, so where you EOD when you were in? If so, thats cool. Much respect for EOD.

So, Ranger School and RASP are two different things? One you go to to get a tab, and one you go to become a Ranger?

Yes. So, basically to get into a Ranger Bat, you go through RASP. If you make it through that and are selected, you are assigned to a Ranger Bat. Once you get there, you spend approx 6-9 months there before you are sent to Ranger School. Now, there will be several soldiers who make it past RASP, bit will wash out of the Ranger Bat in the 1st 9 months.

They kind of "smoke" you during that period, but once your tabbed, it is like you made it and you don't get any shit anymore

Now, having said that, I got out 18 years ago, so, there is a chance that things have changed and processes are different. So, how it was during my time, may not accurately reflect on how things are done now.

Thanks for clearing it up for me. The 75th Ranger Regiment is made up of three battalions, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? If you are in these battalions, then you are Ranger battalion?

Yes, you are correct. I see you are from El Paso. Did my basic there and that was where desert phase of Ranger School was at. Fort Bliss/white Sands. I had heard rumor that desert phase was dropped out of Ranger School.

Thanks. Always wondered about this. I work on Ft Bliss and there are quite a bit of soldiers who have Ranger tabs. I always wondered if they were Rangers. I've also seen soldiers with the 75th scroll but no Ranger tab. Not to take anything away from them. I'm sure Ranger School is fuckin tough, so that's a really good accomplishment.

I'm glad I was able to clear that up for you. I think it can be confusing, especially if you have not served in that unit because you have people who are in the 75th Ranger Regiment who habe not been to Ranger School yet.

Thanks for your service to to help our soldier! It takes all members, be it civilian or military personel to help the Army do what they do best.

fake scout sniper?

Nicholas,

The difference is that the school gets you the tab, but the Regiment is Tier2.

Big difference.

Yeah, tier 2 and getting a tab is a huge difference.

I heard they dropped that a while ago. Everyone in regiment these days goes to a regimental run preranger on benning before ranger school. Ranger school consists of Camp rogers/darby on benning, bus up to dahlonega for mountains, than a jump into swamp phase in eglin.

with my job I am constantly telling my story infront of thousands of thousands of people on a monthly basis, at the end of every speech I get the posers wanting to shake my hand and begin to regale me with their stories of valor as a super secret CIA, state dept, contractor, SF, ranger, seal, sniper that single evenhandedly took on the middle east.

I usually will act impressed, get a photo with them, get their contact info with means of getting back to them pretty soon and forward the photo and info to some friends of mine here

I didn't see the rest of your post before I replied. That's coolthat you've been to El Paso before. Born and raised here. I love the desert here. It's a fun place to play. I knew that basic was held here on Bliss before. I'm positive there is no portion of Ranger training here. There may be Rangers training here before the deploy though. A good friend of mine that was in the 82nd was an aggressor and took part in training SF here.

Yeah, i started basic like the end of June 1990 and was like the last class of basic training (or second to last). Then they stopped basic there all together. It as on the side of the hill.

to the original question, ask him what his mos was.most wont know. it is now 0317 and when I was in it was 8541. No I was not in sta plt was a 0311 but got to attend a lot of cool schools.

as to rangers. As a marine who got to the last 2 where 1 went to school,Marines don't think they are rangers but went to ranger school.

As to the gentleman who was with the 7th lid. We were lucky enough to go to fort ord in the late 80s for a couple of months to train. it was good times. As a little ribbing we used to say that the 7th was to light to fight and to heavy to run.

There ya go again, living the MC fantasy, you must have been with the cooks. Light fighters don't run we leave that to one of the Navy departments, we just fight, and do it for more than 6 months at a time.

like I said, just messing, it was good training as at the time Pendleton mout training was about 4 buildings and ord had a whole town. what was the street out on town with all the seafood. yum. we also had a bunch of us at the end of training charter some fishing and we had a big cookout in the middle of the field. like I said, good times.

So check this out...

I have been going to couple of clubs local ranges for a number of years and I have seen almost everything.
One day I am all set to meet whit one of my buddies over there. So one day I am opening the door and right behind the door there is a guy in fatigues but with the whole
gear on, including a surplus military helmet from WWII.
Now this is no special occasion, reenhancement or anything. Just a regular Sunday afternoon. He had on a mix of surplus stuff between modern German army, US army WWII,
Romanian surplus, you call it! .. including a bayonet, canteen, etc... I think you get the picture! LOL
So this is the middle of April and I tell him... Darn I hate I missed Halloween this year. The guy is not getting it. Then I realize the guy has not all the marbles with him.
...you know a mix between Jerry Lewis and Forrest Gump sort of deal.
Then he is there on the ground shooting prone with a jamomatic 22LR of some kind shooting at 25 yards and I am feeling a little sad for the guy ... you know about the roof top situation.
Then my buddy comes in sees the deal and later we are talking to him and telling him you cannot really come to the club like that, I mean we love it but some people and the kids we coach

at the leagues are going to be scared they are being setup for boot camp and all that!

So you know. The lord has his ways to tell us there is room for everyone on this world but some they just... I dont know...

I am not sure if it is Holliwood and the movies or the video games or what....

Some other day I will tell you some other anecdotes from other outing adventures.

Are you saying he's a little special? Or just odd?

I can remember hearing a "SEAL's" tale about fighting in Vietnam, so I doubt that it's limited to any generation in particular.

I'm sure that there are some who have claimed to have been a parachute regiment during World War 2, or in the Pacific with the Marine Corps as well.

Heck, there might even be some motherfucker during the Roman Empire who claimed to be some type of elite Roman soldier, and never got passed changing out the chamber pot for a Senator.

I was going to say, Ive heard as many BS Nam stories as anything else. However, we do have a lot of posers from our current conflicts. Mostly fobbits claiming to have done crazy combat missions. I had a NG mechanic at the tire shop the other day tell me he was mainly "a door kicker and stuff" while overseas. Ahhh, I see, fresh out of broken down Humvee's they were! Yea, that's not possible.

I exposed a poser here in my town. Guy was a Vietnam vet with the sticker on his car. Crazy, f'ed up "Nam Vet" also claimed to be an ex member of some MC club. Always had people at work tiptoe around him cause he was all messed up from the war. On and on. Well this fag worked for the US Forest Service. He was in for a job where I work and guess who was tasked to go through the apps ? To claim veterans preference you have put your DD 214 in your app. Well I get to his packet and lo and behold Mr Green Beret, lone survivor of the Duc Loc massacre and countless other engagements, spent his days in the shit at Lackland AFB as fork lift driver.

Mister in the the shit did not get the job. Even though I am not allowed to divulge his personal information, I did anyways to whomever would listen. He saw me one day when I was driving my patrol rig, flipped me off and said "Fuck You" of course I wanted to give him courtesy beating and complimentary screen test but I had only 7 years to retire so didn't want to F that up. Later in the week I ran into him on my own time and called him out in front of some of the locals. Instead of the beating he deserved he backed down and tucked tail.

It gets better. This guy doubles down on his ex Green Beret thing (Remember when they were all Ex Green Berets instead of Seals like now?) he flips out at work and threatens one of the employees gets called on it and the Forest Service cop and County Sheriff have a chat with him. He starts the PTSD vet thing. Well I get word and talk to the boys. One was in the 82nd the other was in 2nd Bat 75th. I produce a copy of his DD214. They go back and confront him. Then it starts. "That was my cover" "my records got lost " etc. etc. In the end he retired has some sort of disability with the VA and still drives around with his Nam Vet sticker on his car.

If you were a forklift driver in the US Air Force, I mean no disrespect. Thank you for your service.

Way to go man, these fkrs give good men that been through hard times a bad reputation, I have many true VV's in my family, some that were in heavy heavy combat, one that just died 7 years ago with a Bronze Star for a battle that went bad but he lived when half the dudes he was with didn't. Ya never would have known this dude spent two tours in Vietnam as a grunt unless you were family or there with him.. I have to give props to the 101st, they sent a nice contingent to his funeral plus a General sent my sister a very nice letter. Then you have these douche bags posing, we all met them I am sure, it's just disgusting. I don't want any laws against this because I think w have too many laws on the books already but I would like to see a requirement for a mental exam or something along those lines as I truly believe these posers to be mentally defective in some way, plus I would not trust them in any job that requires them to carry a firearm, use of force, or judgment of any kind.

How to tell if your neighbor is on Navy SEAL Team 6
By
The Virginian-Pilot© May 10, 2011

It’s a question a lot of us have been asking since the Virginia Beach-based Navy SEAL Team 6 carried out the Osama bin Laden mission: Could the man living next door be one of the members? It’s hard to pin down – these guys are, after all, secretive. So we’ve devised some questions to help you determine whether your neighbor is a member of Team 6:

1. Has he ever worn a "Property of Navy SEAL Team 6" T-shirt?

__ Yes (score minus 100 points)

__ No (0 points)

2. Have you ever turned around while mowing the grass and found him right next to you?

__ Yes, and he wasn't even casting a shadow (plus 5)

__ Not that I've noticed (plus 10)

3. How would he respond if you said you needed something translated from Farsi?

__ With laughter (plus 1)

__ With a helpful, "I'd be happy to take a look" (plus 10)

4. Does he often go away for long, spur-of-the-moment vacations and ask you to watch the dogs?

__ Never (minus 100)

__ Yes (plus 1)

__ Yes, but he takes his German shepherd with him (plus 100)

5. Does it often feel like someone is watching you?

__ I know it sounds crazy, but, yes, all the time (minus 100)

__ No, that's crazy (plus 10)

6. Do you ever see him on his roof?

__ Yes (plus 1)

__ Yes, and there never seems to be a ladder (plus 10)

__ No (minus 100)

7. Do you know his last name?

__ Yes, it's Smith (minus 10)

__ No, he says it's too hard to pronounce (plus 10)

8. When you ask him about his line of work, what does he say?

__ "The Navy" (plus 10)

__ I never ask. Heck, I'm afraid to even make eye contact. (plus 50)

__ "It's kind of hard to explain what I do" (plus 100)

9. Ever played the popular card game Hearts at his house?

__ Yes, and it was weird because we used the "Most Wanted Iraqi" playing cards (plus 10)

__ Yes, and it seemed like several of the "Most Wanted Iraqi" cards were missing (plus 50)

__ I've never been invited in (plus 100)

10. Has he ever brought you a "special" souvenir from the Middle East and asked that you not tell anyone?

__ No (plus 100)

__ Yes, like that stupid broken helicopter radio? My kids loved it. (plus 200)

SCALE
1,000 points to 0 He’s not a member.
1 point to 1,000 Can’t say he’s a member
1,001 points to 10,000 Never heard of him

My sister in law used to date (operative word = "used to") a guy who claimed to be a Seal. Had a trident tattoo and a whole back story to include combat in the first Gulf War and a raid that resulted in the capture of Slobadan Milosevic (but the State Department made them let him go). The kicker for me was when I went to his house for a cookout and saw a shadowbox with Capt Eagles (yes, he claimed to be a "radio operator" who was medically retired as an 06) with a silver star, two purple hearts and bunch of other stuff.

Here's what I did to out him.

1) Took him shooting...he didn't really know his way around an AR-15 platform. Sorta like not knowing how to tie your shoes. I like the suggestion above about asking a seemingly innocent question about clarifying mil-dots or MOA or something.

2) Asked him his BUDs class number. He couldn't remember it...said it was "just another school I went to." That's like saying you don't remember what high school you graduated from. I'd ask him a small question pretty much every time I saw him, and he became increasingly uncomfortable around me. All the while, I was gathering small bits of information to help debunk his story and catch him in his lie.

3) Submitted his name and loose dates of "service" to a Seal verification service. Turns out, nobody even close the spelling of his last name ever attended BUDS. Your guys isn't claiming to be a SEAL, but I think the process would basically be the same. I looked up the USMC Scout Sniper Association site (links below) and they don't verify (I'm sure they'd be inundated with requests) but they have a list of recommendations. As stated by others, basically see if he can produce a DD214.

United States Marine Corps Scout/Sniper Association
United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper Association

In the end, almost immediately after verifying his non-status, he broke up with my sister-in-law. I never had to directly confront him, but that was the next step on the list.

I've always wondered if someone didn't "visit" him as a result of my inquiry.

For what it's worth...it's sound like your guy is a pathological liar. It's really not uncommon with addicts (my guy was a raging alcoholic). It's hard to help those kind of people, but I think they need to have their lies confronted, and face the consequences of having those lies exposed.

There is a guy at my gym that I run into every once in a while....older guy, looks to be mid 50's and he and his wife come in a few times a week to walk on the treadmills. I've seen the guy wearing numerous t-shirts that either impliment some kind of amphibious reconnaissance or reconnaissance unit. Saw him lasy week wearing a 2nd Mar SSBC shirt. Guy always is wearing a cammo boonie hat with a recon logo on it as well....wears it everywhere, even while he's working out. Not sure what it is about this guy but something screams to me "POSER" I've never spoken to the guy and i'd hate to walk up to him while he's working out as that is just bad etiquette but id really like to hear something from him. Plus, the guy is always wearing those really short gym shorts that look like they're strait from the 70's.

Well, any retired Service Member from about 2000 will still be list on AKO. So they can be looked up. That will change in 2014.

You could just Google his name. Any "sniper" with 200+ kills would be listed someplace.

That being said, I've seen 88M's shoot (at) twenty plus Hajis. So by government counting that is 300 enemy combatants killed.

Darkside-Six,

Would this guys last name happen to be Schulberg(sp)? First name Brian if I recall correctly

Darkside-Six,

Which guy?? the chiropractor or the old guy at the gym?? I've never talked to the old guy that always wears all the recon shirts.

Old guy at gym. Had a guy out here that did the exact same thing and we found out it was all BS right before he got out. Said he was going to move back east. He would wear various recon shirts, a bonnie hat with recon pins, UDT shorts, and boots to the gym all the time. Just think its funny that there may be more than one with the exact same issue.

This thread has sure struck a cord. A few of our son's youth group had an adventure several years ago and wound up getting into trouble ( burnt down a 30 ft santa). One of the boys was 18 and got himself in front of a judge who suggested the military, just to throw it out there. He went Army, wound up in mortars like me (tear) then got his tab and got to the 75th.

Just a couple of days ago my wife named off the boys who got into trouble that day and said,"they all did good, one is a business owner, one is a resturaunt manager and the other is a mercenary". We laughed and I asked what our Ranger was doing, she didn't know, I forgot to check. While reading this I went to his Facebook and it shows his job as being with https://www.facebook.com/Praevius. He really is a Merc.

OUTSTANDING! It is hard to pose when you post pics like this.

f5067fb3b0226308d937be28cb2699af.jpg

I meet people everyday who have thousands of kills behind them, they know everything about anything that is military related and I would never get into an argument with them about anything. They know it better. They play some games like "Call of Duty". They run, they shoot and they die...then they stand up and run again. So, no argument from my side....there are people with thousands of kills.

New guy at church claims to be a retired scout sniper with 235 kills. I think that is a bunch of crap. I know he is retired military and spent time in a VA hospital from a road side bomb, but 235 Kills, really? is there a way to see what his real service was?

call his ass out...cross reference with people from the unit....smells fishy

Them that did hardly talk about it. Them that didn't have a LOT of stories. Personal experience...
Guy my niece was dating made the big claim, I asked him
BUDS class number... didn't remember it
Name of his 'swim buddy' didn't answer
Name of the instructor he hated most, Beatles Song... "No Reply"
So I took him to the side and called him out... "You're a liar. Either come clean with me or I'll expose you to my niece for the cock smoking, beatch you are."
He started crying...
I started laughing.
Niece said, "What's up Uncle PITFA?"
I said, "Your 'friend' here has something he needs to tell you, RIGHT F'n now."
"I have to go" and he bugged out.... I laughed my self silly on the front porch.
WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?
I splained my question and lack of response...
She got over it, they do when they find true identity of 'spooks' and 'killer dillers' among us.
Never saw him again. Neither did she.
Case closed?
Probably not, he'll end up peeing on my headstone but at least I'll have a visitor in the stone field.

I ended up getting dragged into a conversation one night in the bar between a fake Vietnam Vet Recon guy, a fake Vietnam Vet SEAL/UDT guy, and fake Blackhawk down Marine Scout Sniper. It took a few mins of stories to realize what was going on and I just left them to keep charming each other. It was brilliant to watch.

I guess these guys just want to feel good about them selves, because when they were young they didnt think to inlist and by the time they did think of it they were to damn old,,,,

But the way round that is to go where the Lead flys free and help out, That would deffenately give them a culture shock,

You Serving and Retired Guys take Offence to the because of the stolen glory,,,BUT From the outside looking in TO ME these people dont mean nothing and they NEVER will steal the Glory and Respect that we Hold for You,,,To the point that most of us would drop what we are doing to help you out

Where as with these lost souls we would just sigh and walk away, AND What you Guys have done is Carved In Stone and there it will stay.
But these dreamers will be forgtten in a year or two,,,,,YES it Pisses you off But they cant erroad History or the History that you made

Even the non serving Guys here me included can hold our own, but we are still Proud of our History makers So I tend to leave those dreamers alone,
