Sniper’s Hide Cup Cup 2014 is there a thread?

Dealing with the PRS is like dealing with a girl in grade school. You get notes from a 3rd party that simply say; " do you like me, check yes or no" and if you check no, they move on to the next person. :)

We shot a mini practice match at the T3 Ranch yesterday, and had a good time flushing out their local match stages. I will say this the area is great to shoot, we started out in the morning about 25 degrees with a 12 MPH coming from the right, by the after noon it changed directions so it was now coming from the left a little slower, and by the last stage it dead calm. Here are some pix.

Zach put some nice Hostage targets around the house and in the trees, you had to thread a needle to hit them.

This is a single ridge line for one area of shooting. We can multiple this 10 stage area x 4 if need be. I was also looking at options for handgun integration to the stages, which won't happen at the local level.

Scoring was laid back... what you don't see is the other side of that tower leg just falls off... I shot it left handed.

Looking good, only thing missing is pictures of the sand blowing around from a high wind.

There will, and the laws only apply to purchases in the state, not prior owned magazines.

Not to mention nobody is enforcing them in any capacity.

The laws are completely irrelevant as we are not running a gun show buying and selling stuff

Those are decent reasons, changing the CoF substantially will make it interesting. It definitely sounded like the 2012 event was verrrry similar to the 2013 event from the comments, so was sort of expecting the same just flatter.

Maybe I'm just spoiled with basin and range topography out here.

This is actually easier/less expensive for me, as I have family in Denver and can stage from there before and after.

And yeah, I'm not betting on its failure, like last year I'm hoping this is my main vacation from grad school and work land. *wipes Frank's tear*

Scotty, my dad grew up in Denver, tons of family there. I am definitely gonna make the Cup this year, you going to drive or fly?

Driving. Have not talked with Skit yet, but we were planning on carpooling. I won't be surprised if more people from Reno want to go.

Let's do it! Getting my 6mm back from Long Rifles in the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to 2014 shooting season.

I know that it has been confirmed in CO, fyi after the first of the year the Douglas area is supposed to explode with an oil boom. The traffic on highway 59, north of Douglas is already in the last several months getting worse so the move that way was a good one for that reason. It does make a longer trip for the small minority of us. oh well

The oil boom has been going on for the last 5 years in the Douglas area. Only in the last 2-3 years has the activity picked up farther north of Douglas and around Wright. The lack of hotel availability does kinda suck but I don't think it was that bad this last year. The KOA has little cabins and we were able to get a room with not too much hassle.

Let me rephrase, it is supposed to explode after the first of the year. Your rental department will probably get really crazy unless they pick up their stuff from casper. Yes it has picked up in the last several years, wright is getting ready to build man camps, after january 1 the permits that were released are able to be started on, they are moving rigs from north dakota down here. some of the rigs have been sitting here since thanksgiving, and ready to take off after the first of the year. So the Douglas area that has available camper spots and any chance of a spot for anything will probably be taken. I doubt that it gets as crazy as the Bakken because most of it is on private land up there, but you never know.

Frank,
Any flex in the dates? I don't want to be a nay-sayer, actually stoked for CO, but Memorial Day weekend is hard! Everything else looks AWESOME!!

I would think that a long weekend would make it easier to get home on time? I'm sure plenty might miss a bbq but its well worth it to shoot the premiere LR match in the US.

The date is the same as last year and for many, the weekend is easier off.

The plan right now is, opening up the practice range on Thursday Morning at 8AM, then at 6PM have check in and safety brief. The match will start on Friday and go Saturday and be done by Sunday at Noon... DIA is one hour away, so that gives you Sunday for travel and most should be home for Monday to enjoy the time off with the family if they want.

Shifting it so it's not so much time during the week. You can literally fly in by 3PM MST on Thursday and make the safety brief by 6 PM it's really the best we can do to get the extra 1/2 day of shooting in we do.

Right on. Thanks for answering back so quick, I'll have to see what I can swing with work. Either way, it'll be a great shoot Im sure. Hope I can make it to try out the GAP that I won at last years cup! Thanks for all you do to get this thing going and do-able for most of us.

Are spectators allowed to come and just watch? Would like to make the trip out to see a match in action and eventually participate.

Are the dates confirmed at this point? My schedule (I'm in LE) makes it very difficult to get weekends off at times, and I'm probably going to start working on the bosses for 2014's match as soon as possible (would really like to attend).

It looks like a fun venue, and if I'm not mistaken from those photographs it looks like you already made RJ crawl through some drainage culverts for you...

Well he said same dates as last year so I think May 22-25.

With Check on Thursday Night the dates are,

May 23rd 2014 to May 26th 2014 (should end by 1PM on Sunday)

Arrive no later than 6PM Thursday for safety brief and check in, well have a NV shoot available after dark, probably serve dinner for everyone too... and then start the match on Friday.

Thursday will be an open range day for anyone to attend. We'll have the practice / sight in range available for all to shoot. That will open around 9AM

We are squad'ing together if you make it bud

Looks like the drive is virtually the same...I for one really liked the COF and layout of the 2013 Cup, but I'm game for anything.

May 23rd 2014 is a Friday and the 26th is a Monday. I think you mean 22-25?

Ya, the calendar never moved a year forward,

Check in Thurday, finish match Sunday by 1...

22 - 25...

Haha no problem man. I knew what you meant but I didn't want somebody whining and crying cause the took the wrong days off from work without actually looking at a calendar.

Apologies if I missed this but are they going to allow camping on site?

There is space for camping, also about 15 minutes away is Jackson Reservoir right on 144 on the way to the range from the highway.

I have to clear it, but I don't see why it would be an issue, we have the room, just no real facilities out there to speak of it will be spartan.

Fort Morgan about 25 minutes away has camping right off the highway at the Riverside Park too

Doesn't have to be the Hilton, just want to save myself a 2hr drive each way 3 days in a row. If there's space for a tent and a port o' john for the call of nature I think the essentials are covered.

I actually shot at the location where the match will be held this last weekend. It is about a 30 to 35 minute drive from Fort Morgan where I stayed. It is no Douglas for sure, but I think it is still a pretty decent venue. The old set of corrals and the little canyon you shoot into makes for some tricky wind calls. Also Fort Morgan has a few different hotels that I don't foresee being full so lodging shouldn't be a problem. The distance from Fort Morgan to the location is about like it was from Douglas. Maybe about 10 or 15 minutes longer but still not too bad.

I shot it as well, 2nd time now. I only shot douglas once. I thought they may want to tighten up stage 1 and 2 a bit. get a mover out there
on another stage. the hostage stage was cool.

There are a few hotels in Wiggins also, if that isn't too far in the wrong direction. Stayed there a few years ago for a race. Hoping to be able to make the event this year!

any word on when the registration will open up? I searched for the info, to no avail.

Were you there this last weekend?

You are right on the hostage stage. Very fun and a 7" circle has never been so hard to hit at 350 yards haha.

Yeah it was pretty fun. I had to drive 5 hours one way to get there but it was worth it. I would like to see all the pics and the score sheet from the match.

anybody else still have concussion from shooting in the culvert? :) Even with serious hearing pro, it is amazing how much the blast is intensified...

Lucky is right! Easy as putting socks on a Duck

Hell I was running a can and it was still not very fun. Lotta pressure in that little culvert when you touch one off.

Whiners, I had a brake on my rifle and once the stars faded I could see and hear just fine

Hi,

It was an honor and a pleasure working with Frank and SnipersHide on the Cup the last two years. We have split for the 2014 cup.

We are pretty excited to see what he can put together in the new venue, and it would be nice to have the chance to maybe shoot another big match this year as competitors.

Best of luck to everyone this competition year!

Anyone tell me where from Ft. Morgan, the cup will be held?

Has any COF details been worked out yet? I can only fit in a couple shoots a year and don't want to waste my time crawling thru culverts when I could be shooting. Trying to decide which match might have more shooting versus jumping around. I was able to watch some of last years shooting and thought it looked good and planned on shooting it this year but if its going to turn into an obstacle course, I think I'll just go to to gym and save the trip.
