KRG Bravo Chassis

What is so magical about the CTR magazines?

Are they as overly priced as the AICS mags?:p
My gun came with one. Buying an AICS mag doesn't get me any extra capability/functionality. If I can upgrade stock without spending the extra $75 for literally nothing, I'd heavily consider it. If I can't, then I probably won't.

They're just a single feed, double stack magazine that work quite well. The prices have come down a LOT (used to be $200 a mag, when the TRG's were the only other rifle using it), and cost (actually) less than an AI mag by about $10. The contract with the Canadian Government significantly reduced costs (in fact, I think they're actually made in Canada now, vice overseas).

They are double stack, single feed. The T3 CTR mags are the same as the Sako TRG 22 mag. The T3x CTR mags have a plastic bottom on them to keep them from being used in a TRG 22. They are about $75 new and you can load to 2.94-2.95" with them. They are about the length of the AICS 5 round mags.

I only have one CTR mag. If I need to shoot more than 10 rounds at a time, I've got the wrong gun.

I just like the CTR stock too much to spend $500 to replace it. If I could get one for $350, that would be tempting. But if I have to spend $100 to make that $350 stock work, then I'm back out again.

If you shoot any matches then an extra mag is necessary. If you don't compete, then 1 is all you need.

I really liked my CTR stock, but I wanted to go with a heavier profile barrel when I shot out the original, so I went with the GGS stock. I have a .223 Varmint that I bought with CDI bottom metal. I can't justify changing it at this time, plenty stiff and fits good.

If you're running PRS matches, 3 mags are really a minimum. Seems like a lot of matches are having at least one stage that is unlimited round count (movers and such), so two won't cut it anymore.

They cost less than AICS mags now and are shorter and lighter than them too.

$73 at Euro Optic.

I bought 4 at $100 and they are well worth it.

No inlet for the CTR means I'll just keep the factory stock.

Not sure if this has been touched on but if u want to run a surgeon it will fit with a little dremel work to relieve the side bolt release.

I also have a xray does anyone know if there is an option to just purchase entire rear section and throw on xray? Much prefer the feel of bravo.

Took my Bravo out to 900 yards yesterday. I love the ergonomics of this stock.

That’s all.?

I am kind of itching for a stock... is there an ETA on the revised cheek piece for the Tikka? I sorta will feel foolish buying one now and then spending more money for their solution in a couple of months.

I dont care about CTR mags. Great, I have 2... its not the end of the world. I can sell them, and I already have some AICS mags anyway.

All the T-3 Bravo's are coming with a modified cheekpiece now so you should be good.

It is difficult to explain but if someone's T-3 has the short action bolt stop then just the cocking indicator hits and only in a small range of cheekpiece height position. The problem is that it appears Tikka put long action bolt stops in some short action calibers thus allowing a much longer rearward bolt travel.

RFutch, thank you for your feedback, very glad to hear it!

dsnipe we may put just the Bravo back ends up, it would take a bit to get it going but it's possible.

Nothing yet on the simplified spigot, we're just too buried but it's on the radar along with the CTR/TRG mag version.

Thank you guys for your business!

Thanks for the update. Is there a place to try these in person? At least get the feel of it?

I would really like to thank Massoud (Justin) for helping me get what I wanted. Hopefully,it will be the first LH Bravo out there when I finish it. I just have to wait on the new action to show up. I look forward to getting the chassis in a few days.

What do you guys use to reset the cheek rest back to the same spot (if you ever need to remove it)?

I saw one reviewer mentioned setting o-rings on the posts and using them as a reference point. I set mine where I wanted it and then measured the distance between the bottom of the riser and the top of the cutout.

I then cut out this little “gauge” using some scrap titanium I had lying around. It seems to work but I figure there must be a better way. Don’t judge my off center hole lol

I used 5/16" fuel line cut to the right height, stays there perfectly and brings it back to the same height every time.

Genius! So far, I haven't actually had to move mine. It sits perfectly where it needs to be and still allows my bolt to be removed. So my fancy titanium gauge doesn't see much use.

No thanks. Not interested in a $400 test drive.

I know, I just couldn't pass on the opportunity to make a joke. Honestly, it's a fantastic system and if you ended up not liking it, I'm sure you could flip it without much of a loss at all. It's not like an old take-off H&S that you need to list for half price just to gain interest. I love the Bravo because it's a traditional stock with the added features of a chassis for half the price of most other options. I don't think KRG cut any corners to get that price down, they just used manufacturing process that already works for everything else that they make. For the price, I think you'd have a very hard time beating the Bravo, just on value alone.

I agree that it looks like a fantastic option. I just got burned on a Boyds stock a few years ago doing something like this (buying something that's very personally subjective without being able to try it out first), and it bit me...especially if I have to buy a $75 magazine just to be able to use it.

I was just hoping they had something at a local store somewhere...guess not.

I didn't know all these chassis systems are carried at my local sporting goods store to test out next to each other for fit. :interesting:

These are shooting sports dude. Pay to play.

Nah - my Tikka CTR stock is just fine. It's not a sport for me - it's a hobby.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but would a CTR mag version retain the factory aluminum trigger guard?

Also, two LEO Snipers at a recent long range training I attended had just moved their department issued R700s in to Bravos and loved them.

Seeing them in person certainly got me interested in one for my CTR.

It would not use the CTR bottom metal. It will have a different mag release, the one for the TRG22.

Is there a reason to cut out the cheek piece fir a Tikka?
Aren't I just saving wear on the bolt stop by using the cheek piece as a bolt stop, or does anyone think I might damage the cocking indicator if I run it too hard?
I've has zero issues after running 150rds through it hard without a cut-out.

Got my T3x Varmint .223 Rem. into its new drab today. Only AICS magazine manufacturer that fits this action and chassis is MDT 5 or 10 round polymer magazines. Nobody else at this point offers an AICS .223 Rem. magazine. Action fit into the Bravo chassis and the aluminum parts of the chassis are a 10 out fo 10, however the Bravo plastic components fit with each other is only a 7 out of 10 ... but at this price ($410 incl. S&H) I guess its okay.

Here's how she grouped (5 @ 100 yds.) with Hornady Varmint Express 55 grain V-Max ammo before the change over into the chassis (haven't been out with her in the chassis yet). Top left and right groups are this rifle's groups ... the lower four groups are my Savage ReconLRP/Stag 15 3Gun upper AR 15 with 18" barrel

Is there a way to order just the Tikka cheekpiece for my Bravo? It came with the R700 style when I ordered it at the beginning of the year and I'd like to be able to bring the cheekpiece up another 1/4" which is right where the cocking indicator hits it. I didn't see it listed separately on your site.

I have a long action bravo chassis. I’d like to put a defiance deviant in it. I know the chassis is for a Remington 700 or clone, but well the defiance handle work or do I need the modified handle. Please let me know. Thanks David

Question about the bravo chassis. Is the knob for the cheek pad able to be switched over to the other side? I am a lefty shooting a right handed action and it looks like that knob will be in an uncomfortable spot.

Just got my Bravo today and dropped my Tikka into it. Love it. Have it sitting side by side with my TRG and love the similar feel with chassis like options. Even my TRG bipod clips right it. But on to the mags-

The only AICS type mag I have laying around is an Alpha. Having a hard time giving up the low profile of my TRG mags to use this and at least thats a bit shorter plus has a longer OAL. Problem is if the mag is seated all the way up it feeds fine, but if its only inserted as far as where the mag latch clips, then the rounds nose down. There is a good 1/16" of slop from the latch point to being seated all the way up. The mag is tight enough in there it will be OK for range use but in no way OK for competition.

Is this normal? Would buying some Accurate mags solve this? I plan to sell the Bravo if they ever release one that takes the TRG mags and switch back. Probably not going to modify this stock for the TRG mags so need to find some AICS types that seat securely......

Dang...that does look awesome. KRG - please make one that'll fit my CTR mag!

edit: I'm sure this is somewhere in the thread, but what are the cheapest AICS mags available for 6.5 CM?

Don't 6.5 Creedmoors use the same AICS mags as .308s?
I assume, but I know next to nothing about AICS mags - is AICS the only manufacturer, or are there others who make compatible mags? If so, are those also compatible with the Bravo? Who has the longest COAL, or are they all the same?

I also don't know what COAL limitations I'd have. The CTR mags can handle a pretty long 6.5 CM round, which is especially helpful since Tikka ends up putting a decent bit of freebore in their 6.5s.

Would be way, way easier if KRG would just inlet the stock for the CTR bottom metal. There are like a billion CTRs out there.

Hi fellas,
-As above the long action Rem 700 Bravo comes with the full W-3 front half.
-The cheekpice thumbscrew cannot be switched to the other side but it can be swapped out for a regular screw and then it wouldn't protrude much if any
-We recommend trying another mag other than Alpha Mag. No one brand is perfect. The Accurate Mags are the closest to an AI mag in design.
-For the Defiance, you need their modified handle which I think may now be the standard way they do it.
-6.5 Creedmoor does use a .308 mag. For a Tikka, you can use mags without the restrictor plate and get basically the same OAL as a CTR/TRG mag.

Thank you guys for all your business!

Accuracy International has different types of magazines. There is the AICS, which is a stagger stack single feed that is easily adaptable to almost any bolt action because with the right bottom metal and inlet it can work with single or double stack action designs. The downside is mags are a little longer but regardless it is sort of the STANAG 4179 mag for precision bolt guns. They also have the AW mag which is a double stack double feed so its shorter and easier to load mags, but because of how the rounds sit it can't be adapted to some actions as easily.

and then you have MDT, Magpul, Alpha, and Accurate.

I run accurate w/o binder plate. wouldn't switch for anything

I was referring to magazine patterns, not manufacturers of a given pattern.

I also use the Accurate Mag AICS mags without the plate in my Tikka. Absolutely fantastic mags, I don't see myself switching either. I bundled them with my chassis and mil discount and got a real good deal on everything

Just wanted to shout out to KRG for making such a great chassis at such a great price!!! I picked up my first Bravo a couple weeks ago off here and liked it so much I sold my J Allen to fund another for my tikka 223! The ergonomics are perfect just like my TRG. Chassis is solid and well thought out. My only gripe is I wish it came with a QD point or attachment on the forend.

My only gripe is I wish it came with a QD point or attachment on the forend.

I got the spigot with mine (regular, not ARCA) so I got the QD plate for it. This one:

https://kineticresearchgroup.com/product/qd-sling-plate/

If you don't want a Spigot, this is a good option that fits the M-lok slots at the front:

https://www.magpul.com/products/m-lok-qd-sling-mount

FWIW one nice thing about the Bravo is that it has a better forend skin than the more expensive X-ray

I decided to put my TRG bipod back on the TRG so that left me an extra Atlas TRG Spigot. Since the Bravo and other KRG stocks accept the TRG bipod I figured I would try mounting it on the Bravo. I know a lot of people here are looking for a simple spigot, so this is a solution. It does take some work though- you have to drill 3 holes. A 3/16" carbide bit and a dremel for a bit of cleanup was all I needed.

Here is a picture of the Bravo block below the TRG one with the spot to drill marked. You will notice the extra hole in the TRG. The Atlas spigot needs to mount through this. It only needs to be a straight 3/16" hole though not countersunk for this to work- I just used the Atlas spigot to mark the spot. Easy enough:

Once that is in there are 2 inlets on the Bravo block for the screws to mount the forearm. I marked these with the spigot in place and then drilled them out too. My holes were a bit sloppy so unleashed my inner Bubba and cleaned it up with a Dremel:

Bolt it all back together and good to go. There are some holes on the side of the Atlas spigot spaced 20mm so I assume you can attach a short picatinny rail to it if you ever had the desire. But with a bit of work this is a light weight $50 solution.

One nice thing about using this spigot on the Bravo instead of the TRG is that the legs of an Atlas will go all the way back. On the TRG they dont even fold 45 degrees back as the fore end gets in the way. I also found a piece of scrap wood the same thickness as the stock cheek riser gaps- cut , drilled and painted it. Its now the same color I painted my Willys lol. It was a pain in the ass though- there is a slight peak on the top inlet of the stock, so I had to hand sand out a sloped inlet on the underside of the riser spacer. A TRG cheek piece spacer will not work for this but the Tikka is becoming more TRG-like every chance I get.

Thanks for the BT spigot info. I had previously thought about trying to adapt one to the Bravo. Nice to see it works.

I noticed the Howa Bravo is on the KRG site. $439 vs the $349 price of the Rem 700. Will Brownells be carrying the Howa Bravo?

Me too. The accurate mags are definitely the best. Wish I had more than just one.

ETA: Mine's actually a remington action FWIW.

I'm using the plastic mdt mags for my tikka 223 Bravo. They have worked great so far
