Geez, that's just fucked up, and his own son did that. This is one reason why I say an alarm and a safe go together. I mentioned a safe as a good idea and got attacked on here for advocating keeping your weapons stored under lock and key when not in use (use as to be defined as it's on your person or in your immediate possession, like your bedstand rifle or whatever, not these "gotcha" law definitions). I keep a rifle and a pistol out at all times, but if I leave they either come with or get locked away.
And now you see why. This guy obviously had his shit in a Stack-on, better than nothing I guess, but it isn't even a goddamn "residential security container" (which would have been sufficient in this case). It ended with the death of his family, house burned down and firearms in the hands of murderers.
The most recent school shooting was done with his father's stolen firearms. I don't even have TV and I know that.
That's why get a fucking safe, people. He was a soft target with nice shit, that's how this usually goes, drugs or not.
Did security for years and years, most drug related burglaries are smash and grab, shit you can fence quick in the 'hood. They generally happen to their neighbors, ie, they're robbing each other. Most of the nicer houses were targeted and the ones that were cleaned out were "inside" jobs, or the burglars were previously in the house.
Never seen a no-shit safe violated by a burglar. Unless it was improperly installed or the wrong type. Never seen a burglary go ahead as planned after the alarm went off. Never had to respond to and fix an alarm post-burglary that didn't do it's job. Cops get called after shit happens, but the alarm tech ALWAYS gets called, whether it's successful or not. And if you get a smoke det. installed with it, it'll reduce your homeowner's insurance by up to 30%.
I can't make my place 100% secure, but I can make it secure enough the burglar will go somewhere else. If we all used active/passive RFID security measures, we could end this shit, period.
