Range Report New Sierra 150 SMK for 6.5

My 6.5 is the x47, not the Creedmoor, but with H4350 and the 147gr ELDs, I haven’t found powder compression to be excessive, and my 8” twist Criterion barrel really likes them. Here’s 5 shots at 100 yards.

I seated a couple of the 147eld in new Lapua brass last time I was home but with the full diameter of the bullet at the neck shoulder junction I was at roughly 2.895".
I didn't measure the BTO since my new barrel still isn't finished so I'm not sure what I will end up with, but it looks like the SAAMI .199" free bore may be about right with these.

Good info, John. Can you tell me what freebore you have for the 147's? I'll be chambering a new 6.5x47 barrel soon and need to spec FB with my smith.

IIRC, it’s a .167”. It was not speced for any bullet in particular, just how Criterion cuts them. James at Northland would be able to tell you for sure.

John

Roger that, I assume you're at the lands while still below the neck/shoulder junction

Everything was right. Scope was tested and tracks on. I was shooting a 10" piece of steel and all shots were well inside. Guessing a 6-7" group with not much vertical. maybe 3-4".

Not sure about his results as I don't know his velocities or circumstances. Can only speak to mine.
Rob, sounds well-documented , and very impressive b.c.’s. From a pure accuracy standpoint how do they compare to Sierra 142, JLK 140, Berger 140 hub at distance ?

I am running a test on the 150 smk in my savage 10 stealth today with Reloder 26.... CBTO length is at 2.210. This length is 40 thousanths off the lands of my rifle and is single feed... I will post the data later today

Just finished up.... 41.0 grains through 45.8 grains of Reloder 26..
6.5 creedmoor CBTO 2.210
Savage 10 BA stealth....
Starline Brass
CCI 200 primer.

Necro post: I loaded up a bunch of these to test from 44.2-46.something grains IMR4955 for a .260. That range starts .8 gr below hodgdon max. They used Rem brass I used once fired lapua and fed 210s but my COAL is slightly over 3” at .013” off the lands. Their test load was at 2.800”. I got pressure on the lowest charge with avg velocity 2730ish. But the bad part is, the one group I shot was over 3” at 100 yds. I can rework the powder charge, but was hoping to get more velocity with such a long COAL. My main thing though is where do they like to be seated? .260 rem, 26” 8tw Brux, 85 rounds on it, DA 600. Holes looked centered up but I can’t really say. No obvious keyholes.

im working on these in a long freebore 6.5x47 right now. H4350 and a 60 thou jump. 7 twist, 28” MPA barrel.

I know this is an old thread and all, but really curious if anyone has had any luck with these guys in 6.5 CM yet? I run 147gr ELDMs and have great luck with them but recently got a 7.5t barrel and was keen to try these out. I am using RL16 or H4350....

The only resources I've found are:
1. A Blog post: https://rifleshooter.com/2017/10/6-5-creedmoor-loads-6-5-mm-150-gr-sierra-matchking-smk/
2. and Sierras shitty Wordpress page: https://sierrabullets.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/sierra-bullets-6-5-creedmoor-load-data/

Thanks y'all.

I haven't tried them in a 6.5CM, but I did try them in a 260 Rem (a long time ago). I could not get them to group decently, but that was in an 1:8 twist barrel.

So here is something that I don’t get. When these came out in 2017, I suspect that 1:7.5 CM barrels werent the norm… but now they are everywhere. With the lack of availability for bergers and the high BC these claim, and how close they are to 147 eldms, Im shocked I haven’t seen anything written up about them….

They are pretty long for a 6.5cm and I would be surprised if you could seat them to feed from a mag without losing case capacity for powder. The other thing is that the BC is velocity driven. If you can’t get it up to speed you also won’t get that BC. If you don’t have the claimed BC then you probably won’t out preform a 140-144gr.
