What is the best performance cartridge you can run through an AX short action? Speed/BC in mind. I'm thinking a 260 Ackley, but I don't know if the mags allow it.

A 6mm creed would be better than a 260AI wouldn’t it? Probably a lot better bullet selection on the creed too from the shorter OAL.

Looking at getting an AIAX soon and probably going the 6mm route myself.

Depends, what are you going to be using it for? And what performance/s do you value more?

I am probably getting a 6 creed but was thinking of a second barrel to eek out some longer range performance with a bit more punch in wind etc. I like my 6.5's but was thinking the 260AI was about the hottest round that may feed in the short action.

.284 Shehane maybe?

6 Creedmoor with the 110 smk makes the short action 6.5’s look silly.

Just got back from my shake down cruise after doing the AX stock conversion. It’s a little pricey but I’m glad I did it. The rifle fits me even better now.

Now to work on tightening the nut on the trigger. Shot this 10rd group with Hornady 178gr match at 100

It looks great! Was it worth it and did you have to mount your scope higher?

I think it was. My AT was a factory folder so I sold the stock I took off, which can be used to convert a non folder to folder, to offset part of the cost.

I am running an AI scope mount on the low rail. I believe the mount is listed as the 40mm height (which AI says won’t work for a 5-25 PM II on an AX). It appears to be 30mm height by everyone else’s standards. With the cheek rest bottomed out it’s perfect for me. If it were any lower I would need a new mount. A 34mm height mount with the low rail should work fine.

I tried to make a cheek rest cushion out some 1/8” closed cell foam weatherstrip and it made the cheek rest too high. It’s that close.

If I had known when I bought my AT that a non folder could be converted to an AX stock I would have bought the non folder and converted it.

As it stands I’ve been waiting for the AX conversion to be in stock for almost 6 months.

Thanks for the response I thought the stock looked a little higher but glad it worked out.

Not sure if it’s an optical illusion, but it looks like the cheek piece is angled downward toward the front? Looks a bit odd.

I mentioned on the other threads that I’ve got something in the works to lower the cheek piece on the AX buttstock. It nets about 0.350” lower than the lowest factory setting. I don’t want anyone to wait just on me, but I’ll be trying to get these made soon.

It does seem to angled down. I haven’t dug in to figure out why because it works as is.

@samb300 im interested to see what you come up with. I would like to get the cheek rest down a hair lower to run a soft cheek rest on it. Price depending of course.

I think it's just an illusion, I levelled the stock in Photo Shop and then the scope and the cheek rest look like they're leaning forward. I like it but it's not necessary for the shooting I do. I love to tinker but I'll pass on this one.

Using 1-point perspective, it does appear to be tilted. The plate on the bottom of the cheek piece might not be fitting correctly on the L-bracket of the buttstock? I dunno.

Anyone ever put 2x gen 1 RRS plate on an AT?

I like how far back the gen 1 sits and the finger grooves. And I like the gen 2 full length.

Seems like there is enough room to back 2 of them up to each other.

See pics for direction each on would face.

From the marks I made, there would only be about 1/8” gap between the two and enough room to mount them both.

Here’s some more pics of the Tungsten AX with the 16" .308 now that I have the AMG and Venom on it. Shooting .308 sub sonics with the Venom is a hell of a lot of fun. I’m patiently awaiting arrival of my Proof 6.5x47L barrel, I ordered it in October and they said mid to end of December ship date, but everything I’ve heard said around 5 months is average, so I guess I’ll see.

Had this rifle for a few years and only just took it out past 100 recently, sad.

Looks like a pretty good setup, similar to mine. Keep reaching out further, it gets addicting. What caliber? And where's the snow?

This is of what I speak;

PC270407.JPG

We got a 6-8" dump of white stuff last night. Spent 6 hours today moving it out of the way. The photos not so good, that's about 12" in front of the place I live.

This is the stuff that has me seriously considering a tripod. My AT is a .308, 175 SMK's reach1,040 yards with about 11 mils up. Wind sure plays havoc out that far. That's what makes it fun.

I caved and picked up a green AT 24”6.5CM from MHSA. It should be here next Friday.

I got pretty much everything sorted out except the spigot mount. I plan on running the RRS BAI-AT so I can’t use a full length ARCA rail. Is there an issue with the newer gen BT19 and BT20 that spawned the need for the Sam Burns spigot mount or the Big Dog Steel Mount? I have heard of the BT19 not locking up tight and rotating. Supposedly the second gen fixed this.

Anyone with preferences on AT spigot mounts please let me know.

I have a bai-at gen 1 currently with another on the way.

I also have the gen 2 that should be at my door when I get home.

Going to experiment with 2x gen 1 backed up to one another and the gen 2 full length.

I figure the key slots are pretty fast to take off, so on a small port hole stage, just drop one or both gen 1 plates off before the stage

The reason I originally created the replacement bipod mount was because I couldn’t get the BT19 to lock up completely tight.

My bipod mounts will be happening again, and soon. Both picatinny and Arca Swiss versions, for the AT and AE systems. Stay tuned, I’ll keep you guys updated with an official announcement.

Does anyone know if the AT stock sides will work with the AW's??

Looking at product descriptions leads me to say no

“Replacement Skins for the legacy AI rifles (AE / AW) not for the AICS chassis system”

“Stock side replacements for the AICS short action AT chassis. Folding (2.0) chassis only.”

I have the BT19, Big dog gen2 and Elite Iron and prefer Eliteiron. Locks up tight, and the bipod attaches closer to the barrel.
