Of the 3,464 Medals of Honor awarded as of September 17, 2009, an estimated 2,021 have been awarded to Irish-American recipients, more than twice the number awarded any other ethnic group; 257 Irish-born Americans have received the Medal of Honor which represents more than half of foreign-born MOH recipients.

May be. My wife's only half Irish, she's always just called be a plain ol asshole, never an arsehole. Must be that damned English blood.

I'm half Irish too......Does she like to fight ? I kinda, sorta like to fight. 1/4 British (like to be boorish), 1/4 German (like to frustrate others with inane bullshit and be an impediment to progress. In an nutshell.....obstinate)....... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

She thinks she does, but she can't take a punch for shit. Kidding! :-D

Like I care what an English woman says about me wearing a kilt? ?

The clan (not klan Creeky) my great grandad was from in the highlands of Scotland whupped some English butt a few centuries ago, though they werent victorious over all. Sold out by their own people looking for a little power whilst still having to suck off the king.

Kinda fun to keep a few ties to my forefathers. And their awesomeness in coming over and being great Americans.

Part of my sordid orgy of ancestors were Barbours to the Bruce. Yeah I thought they were French but it made no sense, cause all my uncle's look like Scot Cherokees.
Turns out the barbers to the Bruce(in that time what you'd call a physician...loosely) we're trained in France thus they were called Barbour.

Come to find out that branch of my thicket really is Scot.
Ain't no need for me to be wearing no kilt. We done been here several hunnerd years....I don't even know if Barbours wore kilts.
All my folks is 'Mercan!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all ... The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic ... There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

My mother was born in Ireland and emigrated to this country through Ellis Island and my fathers family came over after the Great Famine. The Irish have filled the ranks of both British and American armies for generations since there was nothing to keep them in Ireland. My great great grandfather Michael O'Donahoe spent 21 years in the Irish Regiment of Foot and was discharged as a pensioner from the Chelsea Hospital in 1861 and have his pensioner papers at home. Fought in in the Crimea and was stationed all over the world. Whole regiments of Irish immigrants were formed coming off the boat and fought in the Civil War with horrendous casualties. You had the Fighting 69th in WWI which was led by Wild Bill Donovan who headed the OSS during WWII. Goes back the to tribal warlike nature of the Celts. The song Paddy's Lamentation is about the Irish coming off the boat and being handed a rifle to fight for Mr. Lincoln.

On a serious note: I understand the Irish Catholics wear green. The British Protestants wear orange.

On a funny note: An intelligent Irishman walks up to a beautiful, Irish lass with red hair and green eyes and tells her..."Kiss me TWICE, I am Irish and SCHIZOPHRENIC"! Now the question is...Is he intelligent because he knows what to say, or that he knows what schizophrenic means? ;)

When I went to school, I was taught that the United States was a melting pot...of people from all over the world and that the best of each culture is what made America great. I later found out that is not true. Each culture tends to stick with their own kind in their own little enclaves. I also found out that, surprisingly, the country of Brazil was a true example of a melting pot, where people of different cultures all mix together. Today, the U.S. is more divided then ever, not just the two political groups, but different cultures, races and religions. There is a phrase, separate but equal, but that is most definitely not true here in the U.S. For when one rises above another, usually economically they try to keep others down. It all comes down to the mighty dollar. Accumulate all you can. One day, it will all go up in smoke if it is paper. What will the monetary value be in the future? Plastic? Water? Food? Ammo?

The idea of the Melting Pot was not perfect and Nativists resisted but what was different was that the in coming immigrants WANTED to be accepted as an American.

They learned English, they were sort of overly Patriotic, they loved the culture.

Sure they celebrated their old traditions but generally they waved an American flag and they did not wish to make their new home like their old or change what was here.

Brazil is a huge mashup of different people indigenous, Portuguese, Italian German, African. Brazils different backgrounds though are very stratified. Your place/class of birth may determine the level of your attainment.

The glory of the USA was that if you work your ass off you have the opportunity to succeed. Sure you will meet bias and obstacles but if you want it and work for it nothing is unachievable.

Compare that to India where your status/class/tribe may exclude you from certain opportunities. No matter what you do, from birth their is a limit to your achievement in your own country.

To some extent that lack of opportunity exists in South America.

The dems are indoctrinating their brainwashed followers to believe America has this institutional block on success.

How do they do that while ignoring our last President was black, women hold positions of importance, other minorities are represented in high professional/profile positions, our athletes know no color/race barrier and they unbelievable payouts.

The value of the Melting Pot was the promotion of one culture - the American Culture. We are replacing it with the Buffet Line having all these separate cultures.

E Pluribus Unum is strength and a unified country

E Pluribus Multis is weakness and Balkanization

We are taking a unified common culture and creating the mess of the Sykes-Picot Middle East through importation of non assimilating cultures

My father-in-law emigrated here with his family from Germany during WWII. They were escaping from both the Russians and the Nazis. It was a lengthy, harrowing journey that took about a year to complete.
Today If anyone were to ever hear his accent and ask him his nationality, it would be inconceivable for him to answer anything but ‘American’.
It would be socially acceptable and PC for him to identify as a ‘German-American’. After all, Germany has a long and mostly proud history. But that is a concept that is completely foreign to him. As it should be.

On the issue of immigration;
This same man did it legally. Through a port of entry. Not claiming asylum (which indeed it was). He was willing to wait as long as it took. If he was told he’d be quarantined for 30/60/90 days then so be it, he’d do it with a grateful smile. He wasn’t after anything free or easy. And once here he became a productive English speaking patriotic American. No hyphen.
