The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Moral of the story....always remove your barrel from the upper and use a vise when installing/removing muzzle devices else you risk undoing your barrel extension.

Man! Wish my MRAD came with that stock height adjusment...and a that new 2-stage trigger

6" accessory rails do you have to buy them from Barrett or do other manufacturers make ones that fit for the flat side models?

Having just read Lancer's previous post on his mrad's accuracy, i'm curious what the rest of you guys get out of your mrad's? Do they hold a candle to other multical rifles like Accuracy International's, desert tech srs, TRG M10's? I have an AXSA that is super accurate but am looking to get a big bore multi cal and have always liked the mrad but have heard various reports on precision.

I just saw the mrad two stage trigger on instagram. $470? Maybe I missed a post on here about the trigger? Anyone have info or where it’s available from? Late to the party!

New Rail Cover/Bag Rider from Barrett should be available in a couple of months.

Yep - placed order, order accepted and cc charged, backordered waiting anticipated fulfillment in April. No blowback from customer service.
Follow-up: Received carbon fiber wrapped MRAD 300 PRC conversion kit around mid-June. Received great communication and customer service. Barrett honored the $1500 purchase price without comment. Mahalo on them.
I’m a big guy that likes big guns and the MRAD rocks. Have it in 338LM, 6.5CM and now the 300PRC. Just ordered Hornady 225 gr ELDMs - can’t hardly wait to take it for test drive. Unfortunately my home range is only 600 yd.

Proper barrel conversion instillation?

Just got my first conversion in 6.5 creedmoor. Instructions i feel aren’t completely clear and I’ve seen two YouTube videos with slightly different methods.

I noticed if you drop the barrel in and close the bolt on it before tightening screws the barrel will shift up a couple millimeters.

Are you supposed to drop the barrel in then tighten down with the bolt out or locked forward? Does it matter? What are y’all doing?

-Install barrel and close bolt with rifle vertical so that the barrel's weight seats it against the shoulder while tightening the collet bolts

-Mitigate minor play between barrel index pin and index notch by rotating barrel to right or left as it is seated (just do it the same way)

-Tighten collet bolts alternately 1/4 to 1/2 turn until “finger” tight, but torque front bolt first

Sharing my MRAD. two barrel set (338 LM 24" /308WIN 22"), OD green. Running two optics a PMII 5-25 in a ERA-TAC and a newly acquired Razor HD (with Barrett Ultra High 35mm rings) temporarily until I can figure what I want for the 308 setup. Have worked up two decent loads for the 338 with Hornady 285 ELD's , standard 308 Target loads assembled with 168 grainers for practice. Not much to add to this knowledge base here but blessed that I can get out and shoot twice a week.

Managed to make it out yesterday to a friends place. He has a small shooters nook from the top of his barn where we can clear the corn and get 670M (about 730 yards) I managed to tag the 2 MOA gong on the first shot and very consistently with the 308 setup. Considering the wind conditions, I am super happy with the results.

Has anyone heard if Barrett plans to add more barrel options or will/is going to release the extension to certain vendors for custom options?

I haven’t followed the Mrad much as of late but as I understand the only option to get a replacement barrel is to pick up the barrel/bolt/ mag kit or have SAC rebarrel with the old extension, if they’re still offering that service.

How loud was it firing inside like that, what type of pad do you have on your cheek rest ?

I recently bought a MRAD and I’m truly amazed at its capability. I was wondering if it’s possible to remove some of the initial creep, or take up may be more accurate, out of the trigger? It breaks very crisp but the take up can be slightly inconsistent. Thanks for the replies.

Can anyone confirm the thread pattern of a Gen 1 (Serial AJ0007XX) 338LM MRAD? My googling had led me to the conclusion that the originals were 3/4 x 20 and then at some point changed to 3/4 x 24... I would assume that change happened with the Gen 2’s, but I’d just like to be sure without actually removing my break if possible.

Overall I’ve been very impressed with it after I got my load all figured out. I’m relatively new to “precision” shooting, but even I managed 0.29MOA 5 Shot groups at 200yds during testing. Easily my best group I’ve ever shot... and definitely my first attempts at shooting prone. Lots to work on as far as my shooting ability and fundamentals of long range but this gun is just easy and has made learning a lot of fun. I’ve only been able to stretch out to 1000yards, but I can generally place 5/5 shots into a 12” plate even with a little wind...

It's actually not as bad as you'd think, but I typically double up my ear pro out of habit from when I shoot the 338lm barrel.

The cheekpad is made by wiebad if I remember correctly and I like it quite a bit. I have been able to stay on the gun on hot days without getting sweaty and sliding off the riser.

I just came here to gloat and maybe Bragg? Did any of you get in in the midway sale of Lapua 338 brass for $.80 a round? I couldn’t believe my eyes! I had to jump on it. It has a weird headstamp. BBR15. I can live with that.

Chime in if you got all over it and went buck wild.....

Im back in the MRAD game... again. Euro Optic had prices I couldnt refuse on a Fluted 338 Lapua rifle!
Goes perfect with the Nightforce ATACR 7-35 and Surefire SOCOM 338 Suppressor!

Which generation MRAD is that? Looks like a Gen 1 upper, but the stock release button is a different color amongst a few other small differences from mine.

Curious what the thread pattern on your barrel was... I need to order one for my Gen 1 for a TBAC SR. How do you like your Surfire?

It’s a 2017 build, 3/4x24 threads. I’m a surefire fan boy so all my rifle cans are surefire... I love them! Never had a single issue, minimal (if any) poi shift, and the 338 can is titanium so it’s very light.

For those of you that have multiple barrels.
What kind of poi shift are you seeing from different calibers ?
Is it worth running two different scopes going from one to the other ?
Thanks for info in advance.

honestly, when I return to a barrel, the POI from when I took it off is usually within 2- clicks vertical, and 2 clicks horizontal from it's old position. I can keep track of what I dial to go between barrels, so I just redial back to where the zero should be, and it takes maybe 1 or 2 shots to confirm zero.

It's never far off.

The two stage is available through BARRETT as an accessory.

They will not release the extension so if you want an $800 barrel you have to pay $1500 and buy it through them or reuse an old extension.

Right now I'm using 3 of my barrel kits and running one scope. I have the scope turrets set on Zero for elevation and windage (100 yards) when running the 338LM 26". when I switch to the 308 22" my zero for 100yards is at 2U/3.5R (MOA) and with the 6.5 creed 24" carbon, zero is at 2.5U/2.75R (MOA). I have multiple scopes available but i'm too lazy to switch them out - easier for me to just add the 100 yard setting to the kestrel.

Got my new TBAC break all mounted up for the ol’ 338 Ultra SR, but unfortunately now the wait begins. Good thing my SOT supports conjugal visits at my outdoor range occasionally though. Was really worried the 3/4 x 24 wouldn’t fit since I had a Gen 1 (possibly needed a 3/4 x 20?) but it worked perfect.

I'm having a hell of a time finding a boreguide for my MRAD (small breech). I was going to order the 98B boreguide from Barrett but it fits large breech only.
Possumhollow has a #230 supposed to fit the 98B as well but also assuming this is large breech. What is everyone using? Can't find a Dewey that someone mentioned earlier, would like to know part numbers if possible.

So i'm considering moving my Atlas bipod over to my AR, but I can't think of anything much better for the MRAD. Does anyone have any suggestions aside from the Atlas PSR? Is the 5-h a good upgrade or am I going to go crazy having to add and remove the bipod before and after every shooting session?

I'm running the big atlas, I guess it's the 5H and it's awesome. You won't regret it. You don't need to remove it after each session. Just fold it like all the other atlas bipods.

Doesn't the 5h add a lot of bulk to the front end? I was led to believe that you end up removing it for transport as you can't easily put the rifle in a bag or case with it on.

Yes it does add bulk and for casing yes, rifle won't fit. I deploy the bipod and stick the rifle in the trunk, and with all the bumps and starts/stops, rifle is always still upright, so that's a testament to its stability. Removal is easy, with the QR.

Has anyone had a chance to try the 2 stage trigger? I'm considering picking one up, but before I deal with ITAR and the 3-4 month wait I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle.

Finally i can post! I registered on here because I wanted to let everyone know that Eurooptic will price match the $1179 that the Barrett website has on all the barrel kits they have except for the carbon fiber ones! I hope this helps someone on here
