Maggie’s Man's Best Friend Thread

My current dog, Elvis the Gordon Setter. In this pic he's been on point for quite a while waiting for me to get to him and flush the huns. I think this look says " Any time now. pal".

This guy wandered into the Track Maintenance shop Wed night (I work at a casino with a thoroughbred race track). It had been below 20 the 2 days prior. Severly malnourished, raging right ear infection, looks like he lost all but 6" of his tail (frostbite or hunger?) pressure sores.
We took him in, took him to local pet hospital for overnight observation Thursday night. He is back, enjoying a warm bed, plenty of ground chicken and rice or beef and rice ( in frequent small portions) and plenty of attention and affection. We operate 24/7, so he has round-the-clock support. The guys in the shop have started a fund for him to pave his long road to recovery. Looks like he may have gotten hit by a car as he drags his rt rear foot a little and has a bulge in his rt ribs we think is a fracture. Next vet visit, after he gains some strength and trust, is to look at that more closely and get vaccinations.
This is an adult bull mastiff that should weigh 150-170lbs. He is 95lbs.
I fucking hate people.

Can't believe I missed this. Thank you for the compassion, as a Dane owner, Mastiff's are very similar and one of the most compassionate creatures you'll ever meet. ?

I'm right there with you brother.

He has been slowly filling out. He is still being fostered by my track maintenance crew (more like he has been fostering that bunch). Somewhat actively looking for a good home for him, but he gets lots of attention and affection where he is at.
A steady diet of ground beef, chicken or turkey with rice, mixed with good dry food has added 35 lbs to him. About 50 more to go. Still favors the right rear leg pretty hard but the vet says most likely atrophy as xrays show nothing abnormal. Great rescue vet locally has seen him 3 times now, done xrays with sedation and given us NSAIDs and pain meds and only taken $95 for the work. He still has ear infections which we are treating. Fungal in the left and bacterial in the right.
Energy is 1000x what it was when he found us.

When he first showed up, he was so skinny I thought he was a dane ... right up until he turned his head toward you. That melon of his is the size of a basketball.

The hazelnut orchard behind the house has been taken over by a colony of California Digger Squirrels in the last 4 years. Those bastards are fierce fighters compared to the Belding's and Silver Greys which used to dominate the orchard. You don't see any Belding's or Silver Greys roaming on the CA Digger's turf any more. The last two years I've shot 531, they've just started to graze and I've shot 18 the last two days. They're picking on the wrong guys dog, it's game time.

I built this Ruger RPR, in .17M2 with a sleeved aluminum barrel it's light and well balanced with the suppressor. Typical ranges are 65-120yds.

My 7yr old lab Kimber. She is spoiled rotten around the house and holds her own in the field. I wore her out on the last weekend of pheasant and quail season in January. Was a spotty day and then we got 7 roosters out of the last spot. She didn't get out of the truck for over an hour after we got home. Could hardly move after her bath.

They say a picture can tell 1000 words...that just doesn’t do justice for this one.
This is a pic of my best friend Ziegen and the fight he picked with a hog that didn’t live to tell the story.
He was a hell of a hound and he had truely been missed by us all.
Love you buddy!

ZCO scopes being guarded by a GSD in Texas... Does it get any better than this?
I'm actually in VA ? Got the patch from a class A, legit K9 dude in SW. Texas. Lived in west Texas in my younger days, and hopefully will
retire there someday.

I had a friend with a Belgian Malinois. He lived to be 14 years old. That was the most spastic dog, I've ever been around. He was super smart and needed lots of exercise. He could get very aggressive, if not worked, regularly.

They're the dumbest, smart dogs I've ever been around. Mine can find a car key in a 2 acre yard one minute, then walk into a wall the next ?
She does require a ton of exercise every day.

My best friend has had a difficult time lately.

Diabetes, blind in 1 eye and now he's vomiting almost everyday without prescription meds....

This is a picture of Bailey when we brought him home after being rescued.

He went home for good today after a long bout with an unknown illness that caused him to go from 82lbs, down to 57lbs. He just couldn't hold anything down. He would eat and then vomit a few hours later. The food was undigested.

I will miss him. Since my retirement, we have been together 24/7. He was my best buddy.

Goodnight Bailey, you will be missed.

I may be rushing into this but I'm getting a new puppy probably next week. She's ready to go on the 19th (8weeks old) and will be flown to an airport near me.

I know I just had Bailey put down yesterday, but I need that feeling of having a dog at my feet. So don't judge me.

It's a Bernedoodle. A cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. This is known as a F1 generation. He will be about 50-70lbs. If his adult coat comes in like a poodle, he won't shed, if it comes in like the Mountain Dog, he'll shed a wee bit.

Having a hard time thinking of a name. I'll make a post and see if I can get any serious name suggestions.

You will love the dog if it is anything like the Bernese that we own..........she is just a big lovable goofball. One of the granddaughters has a Bernedoodle, but I have seen only pictures.

This is one of the best threads ever!

@NukeMMC , if your ever in the Bellingham, WA area hit me up and there's a steak of your choice at Anthonys Hearthfire Grill in it for you.

This is my bud Kaiser, from post 527 on the previous page. When he gets a good hit on the sleeve, he drops my 6'1 240lb ass strait down to my knees. It feels like a tourniquet, even through the sleeve. He has a helluva side-to-side death shake. The problem is, he seems to prefer aiming for the elbow, where the padding is thinnest!

He's always been a big fan of biting shit:

Since he is a mix I think that Rags or Patches would fit with his colorization.

There's a goat rancher just north of Paisley, OR that has 500+ head at peak times, he has 5 Pyrenees that guard his herd from a stout local population of Mountain Lions and Coyotes. To the best of my knowledge he's never lost a goat to a predator.

Had to put my little buddy down today. I am so heartbroken. He was my favorite little asshole.

Rest In Peace Max. I will miss you every day.
