The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Has anyone done a 33xc or 37xc in their mrad? Just curious.... got one of the used ones from eurooptic will be picking it up in a couple weeks so I’ve been thinking about other calibers.

So through a fortuitous accident I was able to find a great deal on an MRAD. Basically, a new .308, 17" MRAD for $3500.

I'm going to reload for it but was planning on trying factory ammo as well. Has anyone had success with FGMM 168 or 175s? Its been a while since I've shot factory .308 but is that still the "go-to"?

Excited to join the cult.

175 is the way to go, I tried about 6 different factory rounds and bullet weight factors. 175 grain FGMM is my go to for this, M118LR is also 175 grain. They are similar.

I just received my new MRAD soft case/drag bag. I contacted Armageddon Gear and requested the soft case that they are making for the military's new Mk22 ASR (MRAD). A great design that will fit in a hard case and also can be used as a drag bag. It also comes with removable shoulder straps on the back which makes it even more versatile. A great bag made in the USA.

What were they asking for one? Is it wide enough to support a mounted atlas 5H? i’m guessing not.

I have a ebelestock bag that is nice but I do like the larger pockets, anything inside for mags or whatnot?

These are not available through their website, they must be special ordered as they make them in lots to fulfill military contracts, so they would need to add them to the production order. They retail for $390 but AG offers a 15% discount for PRS members.

The external dimensions are 48" x 14" x3". My Mk22 with a 24" barrel fits with the stock extended. As the Atlas 5H looks to be 4-5" wide I would expect that it will fit just fine as the case is flexible. There is a middle padded divider that is removeable. One of the outside pockets has a removable vertical divider and the non-weapon side of the case has PALS webbing along the top to add MOLLE pouches, etc.

FNG from Arizona with BARRETT MRAD 6.5 Creedmoor, Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 f1 with Spuhr Mount, Kestrel 5700X, and MDT CKYE-POD. Taking first class with Kevin Owens & Mike Glover @ Fieldcrest Survival (90 Minutes From Home) in October.

Two questions. 1) For those who have CFBs, is there issue with mirage more so than fluted? 2.) Recommendations for second barrel, currently have the 24" Fluted 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. 300 PRC, 300 Norma, or 338 Norma are considerations. Which and why please?

I don't reload yet, primarily due to time and lack of knowledge. Shooting Hornady 147 gr. Match ELD. Open to suggestions on ammo also, and again why you're recommending something please.

Thanks in advance!

Caught a sale. Just bought my (maybe) last barrel kit (24" fluted .308). With 6.5-CM, 300-WM, 338-LM, and now .308-Win ... I feel like I'm "MRAD-Ready" for the Zombie Apocalypse. That 25% off on certain barrels at the Barrett web store was a better price than anywhere else.

Had my buddy Matt at Sawtooth Rifles make some dovetail rails for the MRAD since I won one (not my rifle pictured). He made a short and full length version. Figured some of y’all would be interested.

The long version has a MLOK slots for you to add a pic rail on the front end if needed.

The dovetail has the RRS spec’d

Arrived Today. Quick Shipping, used a little vial of loctite I had on hand and installed! Suggestion, add small the small vial of loctite to shipping. Thank you!

Regarding bolt head/barrel match marking, Barrett MRAD/Bolt Armor Course, Don Cook recommends engraving matching marks/numbers in non-bearing locations to prevent mixing bolt head and barrels. The four digit codes on the bolt head and barrels appear to be day/month codes of when manufactured. They are matched for head space during assembly, but not finally match coded....up to user. Can't believe Barrett will continue this potential problem for military. Can't see grunt engraving his bolt head/barrel, but sure can see him mixing the components when downrange. It's an issue waiting to happen. Anyone viewed the components in the Deployment kit for match coding??? Can't believe military development team would have missed this.
Not sure why anyone would need to engrave anything, as Barrett already engraves the caliber into the bolt head. What am I missing here? Are you talking about multiple barrels of same caliber with each rifle? I don't think that would be a scenario for most people (or the military) because if you shoot a barrel out, you buy a new one that comes with its own matching bolt head anyway

Anyone know if Barrett is going to offer a MRAD Gen? Incorporating changes from the ASR contract like mlok forend, lighter trigger, etc...

Question about factory muzzle brake. Y’all that have successfully removed them to run suppressed, what tools did you use?

The nut is low profile and all my wrenches are too thick.

I used kobalt wrenches with ratcheting boxes end, thin mner than an adjustable or craftsman. I bought two of them in 1 1/4” or so specifically for the task.

Hey everyone. I was looking at getting a mrad. My dad had one of the first 1st gen rifles and I was curious about what’s different between the new gen. Or if someone could send me a link talking about it, if that’s easier.

The older ones are large breach and don’t have any fancy cuts on the forearm. No mlok or lightening cuts. A barrel conversion kit is required. Also barrels need to be cut to allow for the torque bolt to go through, which Barrett will do for free. There’s no appreciable difference imo.

Just picked up my MRAD and I’m regretting not getting 300prc. I have 300 win. I doubt anyone would trade what are the odds of finding them for sale?

New to the forum and just got an mrad in 6.5 creedmore. I've been developing some reloads, but I really can't get a good read on finding the lands. Currently, using 2.800" for col. Also curious as to why I never see win 760 being used for reloads? Seems that 4350 is the go to powder.

Any help and guidance would be appreciated..................Thanks

First Post! I just wrote a long post introducing myself and it disappeared. So trying again here with a shorter one. Recently ordered a Barrett MRAD 300 PRC in FDE, #19058. This model isn't even on Barrett's website yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed it is an M-Lok version. And like Mischeivous above I am from the free state of AZ and have signed up for the Fieldcraft Survival long range shooting class in November. I am a former SWAT officer and I have never owned a hunting rifle or bolt gun... until now!!!

I also got the 338NM Barrel Kit but I don't reload. There are basically two in stock choices, Norma Hunter and Black Hills. Anyone have any experience with either one?

Also, wondering if anyone can recommend a good shooting bag and what model Atlas Bipod you guys are using with your MRAD's. Thanks!

Cool stuff! Folding stock, yeah? Can I ask where you ordered it from? I’m interested in ordering one as well!

Yes folder. I didn't realize the Barrett has a new model without the folder and no ability to change barrels and almost ordered the wrong 300 PRC on Gunbroker. Hinterland Outfitters in Texas is who I wound up ordering from. Great price and they are a high volume Barrett Rep. The salesguy called Barrett that day and they told him 6 to 10 weeks on my rifle. I just got a shipping notice on my 338NM barrel too. Should have it Tuesday!! A guy on the HOA Board with me has his FFL so it is basically coming right to me.

Thanks, man. I just reached out to Barrett and he said no dice on M-Lok. He said the transition won't happen until "sometime in 2021". I also asked him about upgrading the upper to M-Lok down the road and he did not know if that would be a possibility. It's really not a big deal for me on the M-Lok other than I like the clean look better.

Thank you for passing along the information regarding the M-Lok update that it will be sometime in 2021. I can wait, especially since I don't have the funds right now to pick one up.

Mine came with a 1-1/16" jam nut and the brake itself is 1". Unlike yours, my jam nut was not low profile. Both brake and jam nut were rh thread. You may have to grind down a cheap open end wrench to hold the jam nut, while turning the brake ccw. I was really surprised how easily the brake and jam nut came off.

Thanks AMK. Mine seems to favor 2.820 col. I've tried to use the hornady oal, but I really have to jam the bullet into the barrel, which seems really odd. Never had to do this with other barrels. Best I was able to come up with was 2.835" to the lands. I did some reloads using 2.820" col, and was getting sub moa at 100 yds. It would be nice to have a drawing of the barrel.................But that ain't gonna happen.

Got the barrel tool kit today and (1) spare 300 PRC and (1) Spare 338NM Mag. Sheesh these mags are expensive!!! Just figured out the black insert on the T-wrench is to use as a hammer for the punches. Pretty cool.

That tool kit is "crazy expensive". Got the same stuff on Amazon for less than $50. It's cool ... don't get me wrong ... but $200 for $50 in tools means you've gotta want that nifty canvas carry bag.

That fixitsticks kit would be about $160 without the 140 in lb included in the Barrett kit. Not sure where you're seeing it for $50.

Based on the price of other fix it sticks brand tools, $299 did not seem unreasonable to me. And it was covered a few pages back... the 140 in lb fix it stick torque limiter seems totally absent in the wild. Multiple searches returned nothing so it might be made specifically for Barrett. When you consider the fact that for approx. $10,000 I can get everything in the MK22 kit minus the M-Lok, FDE Barrels (which I can Cerakote myself), hard case, sling and extra mags, which is selling online for over $16,000.00, I'd say it's the bargain of the century!!!

It is the 140-inlb torque driver that makes the MK22 tool kit unique. Fix it doesn't sell the 140-inlb driver separately. And for reference Fix It sells a similar kit, minus the 140-inlb driver, for $434. I have the MK22 tool kit on my purchase list (then I can ditch the 12" torque wrench I have been using), I'm just waiting for the next sale...

Instead of getting the DTA HTI tool kit, I made my own and got a wrench from Pro Torque Tools. They have all sorts of shit and you can get 'em different ways, mine locks in reverse for takedown and only torques forward and it's a one piece tool just for those particular screws. I got their multi tool on Amazon, same one, for half as much. Nylon bags are a dime a dozen outside Ft. Lewis, take your pick or get a custom one from TT. Saved a fortune doing it that way.

I make most of my cleaning kits now, SR25 being an exception. I just got such a great deal on that kit with the bolt and everything and, well, that kit is actually nice.

But all the factory cleaning kits are overpriced.
