Filled up my new Colorado ZR2 Bison today and tried to buy a car wash. Had to go in to find out the wash was busted Came back to the truck and literally dead. Nothing. Wouldn't turn, screen wouldn't come up. Thought maybe I had left it in gear. Nope. Called my best friend, who has a ZR2,and is a mechanic... He informed me that the battery terminals are loose from the factory, just look at them. Negative came off in my hand. Easy fix but why the fuck is that a "known" issue?

I grew up outside Flint Michigan, and came of age in the 80s. There is a lot in the Corporate vs Union debate going on that by the end of the day I cannot defend or support either. But by the end of the debate all I can say is both sides ruined a great company. And Flint is a toxic dump/ghost town because of their constant fighting. I will never own a GM product period.

All car companies have their issues, some more than others, but you need to look model and year specific to try and find a car not plagued with problems.

I have a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan, it now has about 160k miles on it, but at least a dozen recalls on things like brakes and transmission (and honda put a new trans in it at 48k) I had a buddy with a 2008, had all the same issues and then some. His #3 spark plug blew out of the engine while driving down the highway, a known defect on the 2008 that spark plug #3 wasn't torqued correctly and could come loose

would you buy a car made in Russia , but you bought one made in Mexico and over priced to sell in America ? I would have to question the buyer over the car company . they knew what they were doing cheap labor and little to no restrictions on what they could do and they got it .

You could own a Ram eco diesel that has been in the shop for over 5 months cause the turbo keeps going into underboost mode. I dropped my truck off on late March and still don’t have it back yet. I’d take a loose battery cable all day.

Pdi's are pencil whipped by most so it's quick, easy money for them.

I managed a garage that was a service center for a couple heavy truck brands. Techs got paid dick for PDIs...so, yeah, they were usually penciled whipped.

I'm not flat rate, they take 8 to 10 hours.

Don't remember the time paid, but it wasn't enough to perform a proper inspection. My best tech usually billed 55 plus hours each week and couldn't do it in book time. Everyone had to take their turn.

OK, I am going to be a dick here for a minute and bust some bubbles. The manufactures track shit that would just boggle your mind if you are not a stats kind of guy. Anyway, in this particular subject I got a couple things. Not sure about GM, but Ford tracks warranty repairs from a shit ton of angles. Their vehicles built in Mexico vs the ones built in USA ( I believe Fusion and F150 are/were built simultaneously in both places) the Mexico assembled vehicles (parts are made all over the world) had a much lower warranty repair rate.

While I support some Unions on some level, I attribute that to the Auto Unions thinking they are GODS.

Also many manufactures did cost analysis when looking at moving manufacturing to Mexico and doing the math even if the Mexicans fucked up 25% more than the USA counter parts (which has been proven they do not) it would be cheaper to manufacture in Mexico.

Again, Unions thinking they are GODS.

I want shit to be made in USA BUT the average person does not want to pay their neighbors labor rate.

Again as I stated above in a previous post, the customer is rarely the first thing any business thinks of. The bigger the business the worse that is.

it is a rumor I keep hearing but have yet to see much proof in USA arm of GM. China Division of GM totally different, as China owns 50% of all foreign business (how do you think they get technology so fast)

PS @308pirate I know you probably know the China part, the "you" is to get who ever is reading to kind of look in the mirror type thing.

A LOT of that is the dealer not doing the delivery inspection. I know my VW, it was common for them to forget to take out the rubber shipping bump-stop thing in coil-overs. I even reminded them when I picked it up. Bump bump bump was the noise. Went in...no sir...nothing wrong. Bump bump bump "CHECK For those rubber things." Bump bump bump (repeat 2 more times). oh well...I'll live with it.

Then I moved. Had my VW supplied oil change at a new dealer (in Tampa) and they came back and said "Hey, did you know those rubber things were still in your coil-overs from shipping on the boat? Hasn't it been bumping? YES....yes it has and the dealer I bought it from swore 3 or 4 times it was NOT the bump stops.

NEVER underestimate how bad a dealer can be...NEVER.

Reference the to posts above about PDI's Some manufactures on some vehicles will leave fuses out so the battery doesn't go dead during shipping. Or like BMW does puts theirs into a "sleep mode" (saw dealer sell a car still in "sleep mode" once). But the battery is fully installed on every vehicle I know of at the factory.

The OP's truck was made in Missouri not Mexico... but try again later...

Right after GM got their 2008 bailout money. Glenn Beck has audio of the CFO of GM giving a speech to a group of the Chinese stating that GM has new money to invest, and they are going to invest it in China. Build new factories, and project 70% of GM cars will be manufactured in China.
I’ll let you research what the numbers are today, but hearing the audio made me very f*n pissed off!!!

I'm pretty sure that meant that the majority of GM cars sold in China would be made in China. That's a common strategy, Toyota and Honda sure do follow it. The overwhelming majority of Toyotas and Hondas sold here are made here.

I hate GM but not because they choose to build locally.

I would be pissed but I have hated GM for over 40 years.

Maybe, but when you are whining to the public that you haven’t turned a profit in 10 years, then go bragging in a foreign country about new found dough for investing right after congress writes a check. Makes you wonder why 2+2 is now supposed to equal 3... Right?

As much as I like Ford vehicles (its a family thing) (the company itself kind of sucks, just a little less than GM) The fact is most "foreign" vehicles are more USA than the "USA" vehicles. Again Unions being just as greedy and more corrupt than corporations.

Quality of trucks these days are terrible! GM needs to step it up !!! Dodge and Ford have surpassed them. Look at the TRX and Raptor, Chevy puts out a crappy 2" lifted truck, ha ha

This reminds me of the shit I would see on service truck bodies built by an American company. Part of the company is union and part isn't but the cobbled up fucking junk they build is amazing. I finally had enough and quit a couple years ago. When the boss says it's just a work truck on a $150-200k setup , it doesn't set well with a person that takes pride in their work.

It's funny but every time we have rented a vehicle and gotten a Chevy/GMC car. Its had a cheap feel to it on the inside. Will not own one though.

Been a mechanic for little over 32 years. Around 2000, Ford really tried to step up their game on quality (minus a few missteps) i think Chrysler (ram) has tried hard the last decade, but GM oh poor GM. I am not sure they have ever put quality first.
I get frustrated with seeing the exact same failure on a 2002 GM product as a 2012. This of course would make my job easier if it wasn't for the fact that no other manufacturer does that. So you don't actually expect it.

wait.....you couldnt figure that out by yourself:LOL:
Not exactly the first thing I thought about when something with under 1000 miles died. Figured it would be a bigger electrical issue to be honest. Computers are a thing I don't trust at all.

The average vehicle now a days has over 14 computers . And that is just the processing or control modules. If you lower you expectations of "computer" it would be pushing over 100 devices with a circuit board.
The "computers " IE control modules themselves are actually very very reliable. If your mechanic says you need a new "computer" i would make them prove it. Although mid 2000 to mid 2010's ABS computers do have a somewhat higher than normal failure rate. Also don't forget about the Ford 6.0 FICM problem.

No issues with this one yet. 😂

I once had a Mercedes sprinter, company truck, died at 3000 miles, got it serviced. They rebooted and said it should be fine, happened again 50 miles later. The main cpu was shit from the factory and it took 4 separate break downs before they admitted it and replaced it. Mechanical things I can fix, they just aren't the first thing I expect to give me issues these days.
