@THEIS
Do you still have a picture of that recovered bullet from a gain twist barrel. Do you remember what the gain twist was?

thinking about getting a 338 barrel for shooting jacket bullets and getting a gain 10 to 9 LH twist.

Hi,

Just got word from Frank at Bartlien that hopefully our first batch of new alloy LH GT (all ending in 7) will be finishing up this month.

From 6CM to 338LM....specifically for Badlands Precision monos.

Edited To Add: Cutting on center section chassis today.

Theis,
Are those 6CMs going to run badlands monos as well? If so, are they the 84gn Badlands lists on their website, or is there a newer design?

Hi,

PSA of the week, lolol.....

Aermet 100 in our processed specifications is a pain in my ASS, lolol...

Drilling the 12mm diameter hole in the bolt body was not too too bad but where that hole steps down to 6mm diameter at 144.9mm deep into the bolt body is tool consumptive, lolol.....It kind of drills like Inconel 625

Looking like RAM EDM for production.

Hi,

There is just no way to get around this thing looking like a block, lol....
Even with that chassis only being 1.8898 inches wide it just will not stop looking like some kind of mine resistant armored vehicle.

Messing with chassis ejection port area looks today.
We can look at 3D files all day long and sometimes you just have to sacrifice a little machine time and alloy to see things in real D.
Pretty sure on the production models we are just going to remove that ejection port "inlet" on the chassis completely. The receiver ejection port rides high enough on the receiver that no matter how we try to "match" the lines they visibly look separated due to the distance between them.

Just another one of those things that we do not typically see manufacturers discussing.
#industrytransparency, lolol

Theis

Maybe just a simple bevel on the top edge...

Is there anything “simple” going on in your world? 😁 Thanks for keeping us posted!!

Hi,

Everyone knows that "Simple, Sucks", lolol.
Case in point, it was real simple for Russia to become overseer's of Armenian territory being handled over to Azerbaijan. It was real easy for Belarus riot police to beat the shit out of 80 year old's and arrest over 20k people in the past month.

Well, Hoplite has been offered the North American distribution of such vehicles from Ukraine, lol

Hi,

That is worth quoting just so it is said again.
Not going to happen in the foreseeable future though.

if it was simple everyone would be doing it

Hi,

Sometimes the separation between innovative and "neva ben done befo" (I learning to speak Louisianian) is very narrow, hahaha

nope. access to the black sea is too important

Well, it doesn’t have to be anything resembling the current government of Turkey controlling that access...

@THEIS I agree with the beveling comment above. A simple bevel along the top edge of the chassis will probably look best. Given the height difference between the chassis and receiver, I would probably either have the bevel surface aimed at the vertical/bevel edge on the receiver or aimed at the inner edge of the receiver bevel at the picatinny interface.

Hi,

Yea because the USA has such good track record on implementing govs in other countries, lol....we need to get a handle on our own first before we look like this picture from today in Kiev.

Hi,

Coming together, lol.
Center section goes back on machine today.
Forend goes on machine today.
Trigger Guard and Grip mount goes on machine tomorrow.

Holy shit dude! I'm "watching" this thread but haven't been getting notifications, so I'm just catching up on your progress...I'm super pumped to see the chassis and forend about to be machined!!!

looking great,

that folder hinge looks stronger than the hinge on my car door

Hi,

Thanks!! Folders are a feature that appears to be an easy concept on the outside but they really can get complex. Not talking about complex in manufacturing them but complex in regards to "getting them right" per say.

The balance of solid lockup and ease of "the fold" is something that takes some T&E (Not the testing & evaluating kind, more like the trial and error kind, lol).
Lockup too tight and run risk of needing 2 hands to operate folding mechanism.
Leave too much space so that there is no resistance on folding it then you run risk of sloppy movement.

We have a utilization surprise with that hinge #2 you see in the picture :)

Getting oh so much closer to one showing up at my FFL

Hi,

Yes, soon as we get this Aspis article finalized it is super simple to push the revisions onto the Kopis programs and get them machined knowing all the pieces of the puzzle work phenomenal together.

Sincerely,
Theis

Hi,

So center section completed as hoped yesterday.

Forend was started yesterday as hoped.

Grip mount and the bottom center piece starts today.

The bottom center is a pretty unique and great feature design!!! It allows us to get to trigger without removing barreled action from the chassis itself.

What is the weight of that? Have you thought of doing FEA on the chassis to reduce the bulkiness. The chassis sidewalls on the L/R side of the action are thicccc.

Hi,

Will let you know final weight when the other parts of completed.

Not only have we thought about doing the FEA...we have had 2 different accredited Engineering & Testing firms actually conduct the FEA.

I can assure you that going any thinner will not have the results anyone wants when the cartridge pressures are ramped up.

I am sure IF we wanted to just throw the standard 338LM ammunition in the rifle then yes we could make the chassis thinner, but we also could change alloys on the receiver to be all 7075 aluminum except the bolt and breech cylinder at that point. It would advance nothing though.

These receivers and chassis are designed and manufactured from the ground up as a combined system, not as a pieced together build. So the chassis has to be able to handle everything the receiver can put into it.

That chassis is only 1.889" wide by the way...The image is deceptive because that 338LM sized receiver is pretty narrow.

Theis

Great to hear, and yes it is always hard to get a true idea of dimensions in pics. Great job designing it as a system!!!

Hi,

Exactly in bold!!!
Never trust pictures from unknown Ukrainian agencies by the way, lol.
I will post up the dimensional specifications/details over the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.

Since I dont want to skim back through the whole thread to review, thats two pieces rather than integral so that you can swap magwells to fit the magazine for your chosen cartridge at any point in time?

Hi,

The Hoplite Arms R&D approach of having them 2 pieces right now is to allow us to be able to react quickly if/when new magazine(s) come to market.
We can make magwell piece for any potential new magazines without having to loose so much time and material with remaking entire bottom section if it was integral.
Understanding the magazines can be a fair amount different from 1 generation model to the next we want to be ready for such.

AND

It allows our R&D Team to leave the door open to possible cartridge changes at field level without having to start from ground level again.

Theis

Hey man you need a beveled magwell for your unbeveled magwell receptacle thingy!

Hi,

Quick....somebody better inform all the other manufacturers in the industry that John Wick reloading will be the new thing for 2021, lol
