Tikka T3 Thread

Just heard from Longrifles Inc. Aparently aftermarket tikka bolts are off to heat treat, and will be ready to drop once they get back from that.

Buckle up!
Bump for any possible updates. Been waiting to hear about pricing on these since LRI first talked about them.

3 deer over the weekend with Tikkas. 2 with my 270 Superlite in the Northwoods and 1 with my 260 CTR on the farm.

Since Luke asked, my first Tikka build:
Tikka T3x Lite Stainless in .270 Winchester
26" Preferred Barrel Blanks Variable Shoulder .800 Varmint in 6.5-284
Iota Outdoors Eko, no bedding
Mtn Tactical Bottom metal
Mtn Tactial 20MOA rail (I think...can't recall for sure if it was Jason's rails or one I had previously)
Stock Trigger with Mtn Tactical spring
Glades Armory bolt handle (another "I think". I've had it around for a couple of years)
Zeiss V4 6-24

10.3lbs with Zeiss 6-24 in Seekins rings

The rifle shoots far better than I do, turning out several half inch 4 and 5 groups at 200yds during load development, pushing Hornady 140 BTHPs at 2900fps. My chosen "target" load is pushing 142SMKs at 3015, and turning out .35moa, while my "hunting" load is just as accurate, pushing the 130gr Sierra Tipped GameKings at 3144fps.

The Eko stock checked in at 32oz, and is a great fit. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with a lighter contour and a shouldered prefit rather than the variable. My idea at the time was to be able to switch barrels easily. Since then, I've learned that the shouldered prefit is just as easy to change and likely more repeatable for precise headspace. I've also learned that the rifle is fantastic from static positions, but a bit cumbersome for spot and stalk with the can. With the light stock and heavy, long barrel, the length and the balance are just a pain when hunting.

At 400yds and quartering hard away, that whitetail took a 130gr STGK in the last rib on the near side, passed through the vitals, out the first rib on the off side, and we found the jacket lodged in the neck muscles just under the hide.

Thanks for looking and THANK YOU for all the support and encouragement folks have offered in anticipation of this.

I am sure the answer to this question is yes, but will these bolts headspace the same as the factory bolt and allow use of prefits?

Sorry for not knowing. But here it is.
Are the T3 actions the same in metal makeup?
Are the Black and blued actions same as the ss looking ones?
Do the blued looking rifles rust easy?

I’m doing a new build this next week. And live in the Boise ID area. I hunt sometimes in an area where you can get soaked with constant rain for weeks at a time.

Brian
T3 vs T3x actions are the same metal make up

T3 vs T3x, recoil lug is bigger, metal bolt shroud, different tapped wholes for a picatinny rail, better reinforced stock and recoil pad.

Barrel/action is the same profile size, but it just different metal material between the blued/SS.

you can prevent rust by taking care of the metal. I love to practice shooting in the weather (rain/snow) but I always make sure that I wipe it down with a gun oil rag before I store it back into the safe, if it got watered on.

If you find a screamin deal on a T3 I wouldnt hesitate buying that over a full priced T3x. I look on Asmslist all the time for T3 because I know im going to change things out on it and ill take a good deal any day.

I'm wondering if the blued looking T3 actions are the same as the Grey T3 actions

Link or photo to show what you're talking about?

if its this or the blued, then its just a different metal they use. So yes they are different but they perform the same. SS is just a little more weather resistant.

I'm about to take position of a TAC A1 in 308. does the 1-11 twist Bbl. like any particular bullet or weight ? Max range 600 yds. I know barrels are like women, each is an individual onto it's self, but in general they all like certain items that are usually $$$$$$.
With the 600 yd. limit I'm hoping the 155 or 168's will work.
168 SMKs hammer in mine.

You mean like the Tactical, which is manganese phosphate parkerized, like the TRG? The material is the same as the blued ones, just with a more corrosion resistant coating.

Hello all,

Just picked up a Tikka CTR in .260, I’ll be running factory loads for the time being. Any recommendations on factory stuff? 20” barrel.

How does Prime Ammo’s 130 SMK’s do?

Looking for a mag for a CTR bottom for a 25SST. Will a std CTR mag work with just bending the feed lips out a bit?
Don't want a 10rd sticking way out the bottom.

The CTR Mag is a 10rd mag, just a double stack versus the single for AICS mags. Don't know if anyone has tried one of the SSTs from the CTR mag, but I know several folks have used them on 6.5PRC builds without issue.

Here are 5 shots with prime doing deer season zero verification with 20in .260 CTR stainless. First shot out left is cuz I mixed up my left from right. Corrected and piled the last 4 in what you see. Shot off a cheap bag and no rear support.

Hey @LongRifles Inc. Have you ever looked into the Tikka bolt stop / bolt stop pin, and finding a way to beef that up? That's been the one thing I've personally seen keep a Tikka down (pin shearing, causing the stop to fall out), and something that I haven't found anyone making a good alternative to.

Perfect, thanks. I’ll verify mine likes it as well and get a case on the way. Appreciate the info.
Cheers

Has anyone used the Mesa precision pre inlet tikka stocks?
haven't used it extensively, but did get elk at 200 & 400 yds with it back in october. didn't weigh it but seems light and sturdy. bonus for lefty option!

Another option is Allterra Arms carbon hunter. I messaged them last week about inletting a left handed stock with ctr dbm. And they said they can do it, just give them a call.

There's also the McMillan Game Hunter. Looks similar to the Mesa (vertical grip and high Monte Carlo comb). Not sure how they compare for weight. I've got a Game Hunter on the way with Edge fill. I can post up a weight when it arrives.

I've got a mcmillan game scout for Tikka it's 29oz unbedded. The game scout has a low-ish comb for a custom stock. Vertical grip is solid though!

I have a Game Scout with an adjustable comb, so that solves the low comb issue, but the combo of standard fill and adjustable comb hardware makes it a little heavy. The weight is fine for the gun it's on, but my I'm going lightweight with my new project.

I'm hoping the Game Hunter w/ Edge fill will be lighter and also have a high enough comb to give me a good cheek weld if I mount my scope as low as possible. I have my doubts though, I typically like a lot of comb height...but I'm hoping to be able to make it work without adding anything to get extra height.

who makes good prefits for t3xs?
Carbon
- Carbon 6
- Proof
- Oregon Mountain Rifle

Steel
- Preferred Barrel Blanks
- Patriot Valley
- Straight Jacket Armory (believe carbon as well?)
- Solid Accuracy (Criterion)
- X-Caliber

Or you could just search the Hide and Google for threads. Lots available.

Does anyone make a direct mount for the t3x like this one from nightforce?

Solid Accuracy uses Criterion blanks.

Just got this little rig back from the 'smith. Andrew Delikat (AD Arms) did me a solid deal on rebarreling this T3 with a 24" Sendero profile Proof Carbon barrel in .308 with a 1:10 twist as well as fluting the bolt and making sure it was all square.

Chamber is off my PTG .308 Bisely 150 reamer with a 0.170" freebore to handle Berger 200.20X at a case-capacity optimized length.

Scope is a SWFA fixed 16x I had on a 20 MOA base. Should be good for the long shots with all that elevation available.

Gonna whip up some loads and get her lined up.

Thanks man! I think im gonna go with the alphahunter. Don't you need the dovetail receiver for these spuhr mounts??
T3s have a dovetail receiver and the Spuhr hunting mounts fit them like a glove. There is also an integral lug in the mount that mates to the receiver. Swapping them around I typically need .2 mil or less adjustment.

ETA Khuber's already there

Badass, im out of town and couldn't tell if my receiver had that or not from the pictures. I was unaware that is standard
