Range Report Testing the 7mm 190’s.

Does anyone know what speed to stay away from with the 180 ELD-M’s so they don’t blow up?

I’ll soon be loading for one once my barrel comes in. 9 twist 26” straight, I only have h4350. From what I’ve read in the Aussie forums, people have been loading around 56g of AR2209/H4350 with them still being fine.
With a 1-8 I downloaded them to 2800 and still had a few pop.

Damn!
These 183 SMK’s are longer than my 190LRHT!
They are in the lands at 3.122 vs 3.099 for the 190’s.
Be inside to see what the BC works out as.

When I measured mine in my 7mm saum the 183 was 3.115 But thank you for the info I needed to know the difference So if I do my special throat it wasn't too long for the either of them. They claiming .377 for agverage

My barrel has a fair among shots in it now.
the throat has definitely moved forward.

We’ll see if they are as consistent as the Berger.

I’m suspicious.
Yeah irs my buddies barrel our local gunsmith has the reamer and does alot of work for us and is a great guy i might have to double check with him. Might just be .090 like yours. The 170 pva bullets are 3.230

Finally! New barrel in house.
76 cm of unicorn steel (at least for us in Norway.) It`s a Bartlein 1-7.7" twist 5R.
Chambered in 7 mm Blaser Magnum. So far I have only tested 190 gr A-tip with N570 and Fed 215.

Results:
69,0gr avg 911 m/s = 2989 fps
69,5gr avg 925 m/s = 3034 fps
70,0gr avg 934 m/s = 3064 fps
70,5gr avg 946 m/s = 3103 fps
71,0gr avg 951 m/s = 3120 fps

And the good news is that all bullets made it to the target!!!

I don`t intend to shoot the loads this hot, but rather provoke the Hornadys to breaking point. And so far they hold up well and groupings are around 1/2 moa. SD /ES are a bit high, so I`ll try another powder to see if there is improvement. N570 is great for getting speed up in a long barrel, but it is really dirty.

I did but it was foggy that day and I couldn’t get past 800 yards.
They had no trouble hitting steel though.

I got a new barrel coming and from the little I saw I’m glad I bought a bunch of the 183’s.

Here's my testing from Saturday.

I think the 190LRHT, 190ATIP, and 183SMK are all very excellent bullets and viable choices. From a statistical perspective, their performance is pretty much identical at the distance I test (1284 yards on paper). My performance measurement is vertical standard deviation.

I will likely go with the 190LRHT as it looks like a safe bet. I had good results before with the 184F-open Hybrids, but now with the 190s there is no need to point them myself. The A-TIP is a clear leader in BC, but its interesting to note that the 183 SMK is not very far behind on drops when put in front of the same powder charge. Also, on the LRHT I sorted by length and SMK was sorted by weight and length. I did not sort the ATIPs, so I may be leaving a bit on the table with them - but for their cost and marketing - I shouldn't have to sort them.

My velocity numbers are derived from BC. I found myself playing around too much with the labradar and magnetospeed to get inconsistent results - so I test on paper as the bullet tells the truth.

I had one questionable shot that went into either of the 183SMK groups, the rest of the numbers I'm fairly confident in - although I'll need to re-check my zero with each of these bullets next time I go out to confirm drops.

*Load data here is over max book loads for 7 SAUM, I use TBN coating and have a custom throat to allow an OAL up to 3.2 - do not attempt to use these loads, I don't take any responsibility for your reloading practices - and would you really trust a guy that shoots MOA?*
Have any pressure at 64.5 grains h1000. U must have a long throat. I ran 64.5 yesterday with 190 lrht and was compressed. And i have a long throat

I know this is an old thread, but can anyone tell me where I can find some 190 Atips? I've been looking for months to no avail.
I shoot them and havnt seen any in a while. Only have few hundred left myself. Ive been looking also for more

Old thread but glad I came across it. I started blowing up 180gr ELD-M's in a 7mm Rem Mag 26" barrel 1:8 twist using H1000.

Had a few come apart at 2890 fps. Just ordered a bunch of 190gr A-Tips. Hopefully that'll end the shenanigans.

Were these newer lotz of 180 eld?
