Hello all,

I recently acquired this .270 win rifle, and am having trouble figuring out what make/model it is.
The bolt style looks similar to some FN Mauser to me, but I can't find an exact match through Google. Anyone have any guesses?
There are only a few markings/numbers on it.
"Mark II" on the back of the bolt.
"5430" on the bottom of the internal magazine
"2978" on the top by the barrel.
A stamp of a mountain on the buttstock (pictured).
Also, the stippling/eching at the 45° angle rectangle like that, is unlike any design I can find in Google images.
Any direction or ideas to what rifle this may be, would be much appreciated.

Maybe one of the many Swedish Mauser actions that Kimber imported in the mid '90s? They installed safeties like in the picture, and installed barrels in a number of calibers, then put the barrelled actions in a Tupperware stock. A good deal at the time. I have not seen one in quite awhile so just guessing.

The Kimbers I've seen like this one were all 6.5x55's, and marked as such on the barrels. They also had Ramline stocks, this one looks like just like another generic Mauser action sporterized with a low profile safety and aftermarket synthetic stock.

Are there any barrel markings?

All I've been able to find on the barrel is ".270."
Perhaps it is a rebarrel?

Most mauser actions i have had, have a crest or identification on the front of the action. It would be under the scope mount. But im not an expert. There are probably other markings too. Proof stamps and such

I found some pictures on Google that look almost identical to mine (same synthetic body and checkering) mine just has a low profile safety.
It appears to be a Kimber sporterized Mauser M98. From what I've found, Kimber bought some surplus Mauser m98s, put them into synthetic stocks and re-barreled them.
At least I got something to go on now.

Bolt shroud looks a lot like a swedish mauser either a model 96 or 38, same action 38 is the carbine version. The pre-98 Mausers, often referred to as small ring Mausers, are not thought to be able to handle modern high pressure rounds, the 270 definitely falls into this category. The swedish actions would also be short for the 270, you would have to single load as the magazine would not be long enough. The action woiuld probably not let loose if it fired a 270, but not something I would want to have in proximity to my face when testing.
One characteristic that makes the swedes stand out in a sea of milsurp rifles is the high level of polish on the bolt, they are very nicely manufactured rifles, I bought a dozen almost 30 years at $39/piece if I recall correctly I have sold and traded most of them away and sproterized a non-matching rifle into a very nice deer rifle.

I fired it for the first time yesterday (with safety glasses. Lol) the internal magazine held 5+1, and 150gr remington core-lokt fired without any issue

I just found a few additional markings.
A star/hexagram
What appears to be a 1.. and a 0/other symbol
And what looks like a lower case "a" and the numbers "57" on the back of the bolt.

The star makes me think ottoman/Turkish origin

I don't think it's a Kimber. The MKII safety is currently sold by Brownell's. There are cautions regarding the older MKII safeties reliability if you do a search. Is the left side of the action thumb slotted? Have you removed the barreled action from the stock. If not, do so and you will probably lots of proof marks. The bolt appears to be rewelded so as to clear a scope.

If you can get clear pictures of proof marks, post them and I may be able to help you with the origins of the action. I'm guessing it is a M98 or derivative if your .270 rounds fit the magazine box.

If you really want to go all in, have a Mod move your post to the Vintage Sniper Rifle Forum. There's lots of arcane knowledge there and they are always willing to help.

Now for the big question. How did it shoot?

Interarms Mark 2 or X i believe.??? I think i had one in the late 90s in 308.

Got some more markings/pictures.
It shot well. No cycling issues.
At 100Y (max range distance) it hit about 2" high. So it seems the zero is probably about right for 200Y.
But I'll take it out again next week and see how it does a little further out.

Wow that looks like somebody did some engraving pen work lol. Looks like a few peoples names, herb and cisco slavens? I was kinda leaning turkish too but there would be the crescent symbol somewhere other than the top of the action right?

I was thinking the part that says "Ceskoslovenska" indicated czech origin. But I definitely could be wrong. Since it's after production engraving, and not manufactur markings, hard to say
