Are the FN SPR enthusiasts extinct?

The factory barrel installation is what got.me thinking.
Not much detail there so I emailed. Will see what the response is.
There are also a bunch of old factory barrels for sale, so those much be going on actions right?

I have heard that and it makes sense that the relief cut has to time perfectly.

This is why the Mausingfield is probably a better action overall.
- Rem 700 Footprint for stocks/chassis
- Rem 700 Triggers
- Savage Small Shank Barrels - prefit with nut - no timing, just head spacing.
- Will accept M5 bottom metals without modification
- Swappable bolt heads

But here I am....I sold the Mausingfield and I still have the SPR A5. (The SPR was an anniversary gift, so I'll probably always keep it....but if I'm honest, she wouldn't notice if that spot in the safe was a FN or a Mausingfield)

I’d call Tim Malcolm at Malcolm Ballistic Tool. He fit a SPR chrome lined take off barrel to a Ruger scout gun.

Haha. Yep.
My favourite factory action is probabaly the AI. The second is the FN/Mod70, both have things I would change. The mausingfield seems to have everything I want, but I kind of like the idea of the having my trigger and safety as part of the action. But now i.am.getting nitpicky

Wow, that's cool. Yeah thanks for the lead, will give him a holler.
No problem. Tim is a wonderful gunsmith and can truly make anything. He’s the only one I know of who has fit a SPR chrome lined barrel to another gun. If I recall correctly it was a .5 MOA gun using 10 shot groups.

When you call, make sure you have at least a half hour to spare.

It wasn’t put on a RPR. It was put on a Ruger Gunsite Scout. I don’t believe it was ever discussed on the Hide.

Ha helps to read the whole sentence. I read ruger and immediately though rpr.
The fact that it was a scout gives me more hope.
Looking at the geometry looks like the relief notch may have to be opened to allow the claw to fit, obviously depending on the individual action and barrel.
Thanks a bunch, will try to give him a call tomorrow.

I was going through some old photos of mine, and this one is from 2013 when I lived in Australia. A3G & A5M in the middle. These were both before they added the nicer bolt knob.

I got my first SPR cut for AICS mags and used PTG bottom metal. I have tried AI, Accurate Mag, and Magpul. They work, but poorly, and the rifle is a push feed with them, so chambering isn't smooth and great like an SPR should be. Oh, and I tried one of those short ARC 10 rounders, too. It couldn't feed a single round.

I went to a Mcree chassis, assuming it was the fault of the PTG bottom metal. It is the same fitment to a thousandth and the same result.

The FN DBM or TBM is the way to go.

I tried to work with CDI but their bottom metal didn't work. It was very, very, very poor quality. The owner of CDI said I had to hold the mag at a certain height to get it to feed. I forget how much slop the mag had up and down, but I remember it was more than the diameter of a 308 case head. So I would have had to look into the actiom, raise the mag to the right height, then hold it there to work the bolt. The owner stole a "restocking fee" from me and I had to pay shipping to return the stock he ruined. I have nothing nice to say about CDI after my only interaction with them.

My cdi modded sprs have worked flawlessly. Speaking ill of the dead is a douche move.

Well, I have been watching this thread for some time and can no longer hold my opinion.

I have used CDI and PTG dbm systems on all of my Mod 70's.

Currently that is 2 CDI's and 1 PTG: 1 .308, 1 7WSM, and 1 .308 respectively.

All run 100% never having missed a feed. The 1st .308 over 6K rounds, the 7WSM over 3K (second barrel), 3rd .308 over 12K (second barrel)

That has been my limited experience, but if the action and stock are properly machined and installed
either of these will work without issue.

I have used CDI dbm systems for decades.

PTG works but is butt ugly IMHO.

This is the first time I have EVER heard of anyone having an issue with Jeff.

I will gladly take an AI .308 steel mag over any other mag out there.

For the record, when I tried CDI, it was CDI supplied bottom metal, stock, and fitment. It was all through them. I assume it was simply a fluke that it didn't work, but it wasn't handled well.

With my SPRs, moving forward, I'll be sticking with OEM McMillans and the FN hardware. It works.

Been 5thinking about this a lot. Has anybody mocked up the spr/mod 70 action in CAd or have an STl file for it?

That sucks you had a poor interaction with CDI, but I can’t say the same. My interaction with them as well as the performance and fitment of the DBM into my A3G was/is excellent. Best investment I made into it.

When I bought my first SPR, CDI was the only game in town for bottom metal. Then we got more aftermarket support, but FN decided to kill the SPR line. Dumb!

I never saw myself needing more capacity so just stuck with the factory bottom metal.

I agree. It's a great rifle.for a person or a department not wanting to.spend 10k on a barret, AI, sako. Work. But as with all things FN...they have great tech, not.so good marketing.

Having delt with FN I agree 100%! Granted my last exchange with FN was 5 years ago. The department’s I dealt with treated me like I was a waste of their time. Not just to call tech either, but to spend money too.

I’ll just put this little guy right here. Been slowly updating from stock setup over the last year but I’m still rocking my old Mk4. And considering this whole thing has been rattle canned probably half a dozen times in it’s life I think it’s currently looking pretty good. May have SAC change out the bolt knob next but we’ll see.

Who are you fucking talking to like like that cocksucker. You can’t have nice thing because the way you think and lead your fucked up life.
😂
I’m me, a non-fucktard, that’s who I am. ...and I’m talking to you, a fucktard.
When I see a fuckin retard acting like a fucking retard and shitting all over a room that isn’t a room made for being shit all over, I call them what they are...a fucktard. ...which is what you’re doing and what you are.
The PX rules are something that have been beaten to death here. The fact that you can’t read solidifies my initial assessment.

Also, removing the pics doesn’t remove the actual sales posting. Again, more evidence of the fucktardation. Try again by reposting the pics and removing the sales content. #Magic

I can’t get my A5M to shoot. I shoot a group and 2 rounds will be touching and then a flier. It shoots just from .75 to 1 inch. Sometimes better. I’ve tried different scopes, 175gn, 168gn FGMM, with suppressor and without, different torque specs, flash hider and without. I got the trigger down to about 2lbs. I am stooped.. the A2A4 is lights out 1/2 inch. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Dude, this ain’t the PX section. Read the rules of this forum and post in the appropriate places. If you’d like to sell your FN, do so in the right place.

Do the world a favor and wash your mouth out with buckshot. Maybe one day it will occur to you when you locking up at McDonalds that it’s not the world that’s fucked up, it’s me that‘s fucked up. There is a whole world beyond your computer. Go and try to find a life.
You own a lot of apparel with skulls on it...don’t you? 😂

I’m done detracting from the intent of the FN SPR’s thread by engaging with an illiterate badass.

Not sure if I posted these previously, but here’s some of my A3G that I just came across.

I hit my bolt handle with some spray on bed liner, which feels great....especially when hitting someone with brass five lanes over to your right 😂😂

Dry fire is always a fun time with the PPT on the laptop for movers. I wish I was more of a millennial and knew how to create my own PPTs/digital content for movers though.

Just opened my data book...ran 1,393rds through her between May19 and JAN20. ...oh to have that stack of 175gr FGMM to burn through again...

Specs:
-Factory FN SPR A3G
-Area 419 Hellfire
-Flush Cups
-Upgraded Bolt Knob
-Badger Rings
-NF ATACR 5-25 Mil-XT
-MCD PRST (Tripod)
-Atlas CAL (G2) and/or HBRMS

It’s an xlr evolution. Flinging brass is fun but losing them at a match isn’t as much fun

I’ve said it a few times now, but my SPR A1 is a rifle I deeply regret selling.

I’d rather have it back in my possession than my AIAT. Something about it just felt right.

I contemplated selling mine but decided to just give it to the wife. It was the first bolt gun she ever shot (one of our dates) so it’s kind of sentimental at this point. A buddy had the same regret selling his.

Gaspppppp.....
I have an AI MKii. So not an AT...but ...I think I prefer the AI slightly over the FN and the Mod70 in the safe.

Technical question, the pbr action I have seems a bit sluggish when working the bolt compared to the spr action.
And tribal knowledge in smoothing up the pbr action? Or is it a sense off to tje Smith type thing

Mind me asking what the price was? Not that I can justify a bolt rifle right now, just curious.
You can often find the A1 selling around $900-1500 depends on the condition and modifications. I paid 1,100 for mine. Not a decent price but it’s completely unmodified in factory set up even with the original box.

You might have bought my SPR! If so, that's the original box of a different, identical rifle. The box is of my first one, but that rifle was my third one. I figured somebody would appreciate it more than me.

As for the 300 WSM PBR I just got from a member here, extraction isn't great like the 308 guns. I've only put about 40 rounds through it, but the bore was really nice with some cracking in the throat. I had heard the 300 WSM does that pretty quick.

I think these would have sold better if:
-they offered 6.5 creed at some point
-MSRP wasn't intimidatingly double or triple the street price
-they did absolutely any advertising or youtube shillery at all

They made my new favorite rifle, but also dropped the ball. My only complaint about the rifle itself is it didn't come in 6.5 so that I would buy more of them. An FN hammer forged, chrome lined 6.5 barrel would tickle my pickle for sure.
