yup. there are still awesome andy taylors and still some barney fifes.
but you hit one an important point, and that is that the number of officers required exceeds the number of ideal candidates.
add diversity quotas and other pressures and you end up with a large number of armed officers that don't have the ideal temperament for the job.
i know for a fact that i would likely be a terrible officer because i was sort of a berserker if i was picked on when i was a kid.
does it show? :p
I was a pretty decent c.o. back in the day. My crew/co-workers would give me shit, when I would have to deal with a situation and talk a situation down, especially one they incited (yes, we were not perfect). They would always say, "Mac, I don't know where you get your patience, but damn..." I would always reply..."because I don't want to suit-up damn it and it's beer thirty!"
But, yeah, I was also, the guy, if the green light flashed, I was going to jump. I got older, and smarter, so, I changed.
Shit has changed so much with new hires today, that when I started I had to work midnight shift for 10.5 years before I even got the opportunity to work day shift. Now, the turn-over rate is so high, you start out on nights, and 4-6 months later, you're on day shift.
Good/exceptional candidates are few and far between these days. Very little pride in any job anymore. Really sad. Mac

You're not getting the point. Your gun control argument has nothing in common with what happened to floyd. Are you saying he was standing up for his right to get high as fuck, try to steal shit ( that's what using counterfeit money is) and get in his car (owi) and potentially drive into oncoming traffic killing a mom and her 3 kids? Use some common sense here.

could you please link the story of the mom and 3 kids he slammed into?

Or was that a fantasy / future crimes department?

Look, dude was 1000% a shit bag, I wish he would have ODed before he victimized the first person he did (think it was the pregnant woman he robbed?), that said the police are sposed to help, and that dude needed medical more than he needed to get the shit enforced out of him. Again, if you have no patience for shit birds, as fun as it is to carry a gun, drive fast and be a “brother of the shield” and all that jazz, maybe you’re just not cut out to be a cop.

The World/this Country is changing in Ways none of US can predict - the old days? The Way it was? That shit has absolutely no credibility going forward. I worry about the ones coming up behind me as well but it is Not. Going. Back.

What once was is no more - there has been more change in terms of economics, politics, Money, etc in the last 10 years than in the last 300 years before that. What comes next/what will be has little to do with what was or has been. The good old normalcy and status quo is gone now - forever. For good or bad.

It's not gonna roll back to "The Way it Was" and the Way forward is unknown and will be dictated by what happens in the future - not the past. We need to stop trying to make the future conform to what is past. That is over now. The answers to todays issues lie in the Future. There is no solution in looking back. That's gone.

i was something like an operations manager in a past life or career and got along with everyone, had a great crew and never had to discipline anyone or even yell at anyone.
i only learned later that supposedly everyone was afraid of me because they saw me get mad at somebody once (not one of them). :ROFLMAO:
anyway, it was a great crew.

I don't expect it to go back to "The Way it Was". I'm just speaking of my past work experience. That's all I have to go on.
Shit is changing and changing fast. Believe me, my eyes are wide open.
Trying to stay positive is tough and we all feel like .gov is out to get us,
I just don't have a lot of faith in the younger generation(s), to save us, due to the "Participation Trophy and Time Out" thing.
History can repeat itself, historians say so. We need to get back to the root of how this country came about. If we can do that, the rest will fall in place. We have our work cut out for us, it's up to us to answer that call. Mac(y)

Well, back in my Military days, my nickname was "Mad Mac". To make a long story, short, I got passed-over a couple of times, due to my "'Tude". I was very outspoken. So, there's that and I HAD a temper also (being Irish and all).
I was an A/C Maint. Instructor( newbies out of Tech. School) and taught at my jail. I've had some great students/workers in my days and proud of every one of them. Mac

Please link where he got a OWI

But yes, I have a mental issue known as logic, having read the constitution and some history, so your mindset of “well this could have happened” is pants on head stupid, that’s the same “thinking” and I use that term very loosely, has brought about so much unconstitutional BS based on fear mongering what could have/ would have happened, vs what actually happened.

It would be very hard for me, as a juror, to convict at this point. I know these days we don't like to accept fucked up outcomes, but that is what it seems like all around.

And McDonald’s kills 2k people a day?

Floyd’s dumb decisions to use his body like a pharmaceutical mix and match is what ultimately was his undoing.

That’s by design.

Of course I know that. It's been made abundantly clear.

Isn't it ironic that our country was founded by educated men, who didn't always agree - but still managed to forge a republic from shared ideals (which weren't paramount to consensus) - and yet, this is what we've been reduced to?
Yup, none of them ever met or fell on the field of honor ...

How many millions has Minneapolis paid out due to their officers? Justine Damond's family got a settlement, right?

Minnesota police settlements, by the numbers
In 2013, Minneapolis paid $3,075,000 to the family of David Smith, who died after being restrained by two police officers.

According to court documents Smith, 28, was acting erratically at the downtown YMCA. Two police officers responded to a call from employees at the gym and after a struggle, placed Smith on his stomach with his hands cuffed behind him.

Documents also say one of the officers continually drove his knee into Smith's back. Officers called for medical assistance when they noticed Smith had stopped breathing. Smith was revived but died about a week later without gaining consciousness.
Mpls. to pay $3M settlement for man's death

Care to elaborate on this and its relevance to the republic.

You know it wasn’t all sunshine and lollipops for those who signed onto the documents of our counties birth.

Don’t romanticize war and fighting too much. There are tons of other lands that liked to cut on and shoot up each other too, but lacking the great and free minds like our founders, those places are what we would call shit holes.

The way I see it all is this. The $20 wasn't a big deal but the cops noticed he was clearly high and being that they were there and made contact they had to detain him. They can't let him go wander around potentially hurting someone else or himself besides that he broke the law.
LOL

So many people here have very clearly never lived in cities. It's a whole different beast than your villages in BFE, or even the suburbs.

Cops turn around and walk away from high as fuck junkies, EVERY SINGLE DAY. I've seen it with my own eyes. Do you know why? Because there's a fucking army of them - and it's growing by the day. Most of them are in and out of the system. Many cities don't even prosecute them.

I lived in a city that wouldn't even enforce the law in areas that were NOT the ghetto! How much more sense does it make to leave off, when you're ALREADY IN THE FUCKING GHETTO?!?! Leave ghetto problems in the ghetto, deal with them when they wander outside the boundary.

WHY DO POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND THEIR UNIONS CONTINUE THIS INSANITY? For the love of Christ, just say "no" to ghetto policing. Go on fucking strike, if you have to, but stop this madness. It's killing the public trust, and it's costing a fortune.

Let's not forget that our founding fathers all had a rope fitted, and waiting for, their necks. Every last one of them was guilty of high treason, in the eyes of the Crown.

Like I said previously, some men were born to lay battle plans, and others were simply born to catch cannon balls. It should be pretty clear which is which around here.

"Lethal" to whom? Me? You? I have a Ukranian coworker that I wouldn't drink with, if he had a one bottle head start.

I guess we'll see what the final verdict is.

I'm not a medical expert, and I doubt that you are either.
when you are at 4x the dose of fentanyl that would kill a healthy person......that is lethal to everyone.

and as we all know, Floyd was not even close to a "healthy person"

you dont build a tolerance to death.

What Is The Lethal Dose of Fentanyl?

Before discussing the potentially lethal dose of fentanyl, it may be useful to establish some perspective for those not familiar with the metric system. There are approximately 28.35 grams to an ounce. One milligram (1 mg) is equal to 1/1000 of a gram. One microgram is equal to 1/1000 of one milligram.
The medicinal doses associated with some of the more well-known narcotic medications, such as morphine, hydrocodone (the opiate drug in medications like Vicodin), and oxycodone (the opiate substance in medications like OxyContin) are often given in milligrams. Medicinal doses associated with fentanyl are often given in micrograms.
This illustrates the potency of opiate drugs in general and the increased potency associated with fentanyl compared to these other very potent narcotic medications.
According to the book Opiate Receptors and Antagonists: From Bench to Clinic, the following amounts are generally considered to be lethal doses for these opiate drugs for an average person who has not developed tolerance:
  • The lethal dose of fentanyl is generally stated to be 2 milligrams. This lethal dose considers that the individual has not developed significant tolerance; however, even in individuals with significant tolerance, the lethal dose of fentanyl is extremely small compared to the potential lethal doses of many other opiate drugs.
  • Morphine doses of over 200 mg are considered to be lethal. Individuals with hypersensitivity to opiate drugs may experience lethal effects from significantly lower amounts, and individuals with tolerance may need extremely high amounts of morphine before they experience lethal overdose effects.
  • The lethal dose for heroin is generally reported as being between 75 and 375 mg.
  • The lethal dose for hydrocodone is generally stated to be around 90 mg. However, taking hydrocodone with acetaminophen (e.g., as in Vicodin and other medications) can result in lethal effects occurring at lower doses.
  • A single dose of 40 mg or more of oxycodone may produce lethal effects in some individuals. Individuals who take controlled-release forms of oxycodone and take more than 80 mg per day may experience overdose effects if they have not developed significant tolerance.
Based on the above figures, one can calculate that the lethal dose for fentanyl is approximately 100 times less than the lethal dose for morphine. In addition, when individuals mix drugs, such as fentanyl dosing in conjunction with heroin, the potential amount of a lethal dose of fentanyl is drastically reduced to the point of being so small that normal individuals might not be able to measure it.
In most cases, lethal doses of any drug will vary depending on who is taking the drug. The lethal dose for a small child or a 100-pound woman will be significantly smaller than the lethal dose for a 300-pound man.
In addition, individuals who have established significant tolerance to a substance will require significantly higher amounts of the drug in order to experience an overdose or lethal effects compared to individuals who have not established a tolerance for the drug.
In many cases, the mode of administration may play a role in how much of the drug is actually delivered to the individual’s system. For instance, taking a drug orally typically results in less of the drug entering a person’s system than snorting or injecting it. Moreover, snorting or injecting opiate drugs results in their actions being experienced far more quickly than taking them orally.

Fentanyl Overdose Symptoms

The signs and symptoms that occur in individuals who have overdosed on fentanyl can consist of:

  • Extreme drowsiness, lethargy, lightheadedness, or dizziness
  • Marked difficulty with balance, difficulty with walking, and decreased motor coordination
  • Complaints of nausea and vomiting
  • Significant mental status changes that often include slurred speech, decreased speed of thought (that can be observed by extremely slow rates of speech), confusion, irrational actions, and/or aggressiveness
  • Pinpoint eye pupils and/or bluish or purplish lips, hands, feet, fingernails, and/or toenails
  • Noticeably slowed or shallow breathing (In some cases, people may stop breathing or produce gurgling noises.)
  • A marked reduction in blood pressure and heart rate
  • Becoming unconscious or comatose
The lethal effects that occur as a result of fentanyl overdose are most often due to significant respiratory suppression or the complete halting of breathing as a result of the central nervous system depressant effects of the drug.

So if the law says no guns, you’re going to be first to turn them in?

If the law says no talking about XYZ, you’ll shut your mouth?

Floyd was a POS, but so are lots of people, doesn’t mean we should beat the shit out of them. Sorry if you don’t like dealing/helping/de-escalating with shitty people, maybe don’t be a cop. If you can’t handle maybe getting into a few fights and maybe getting a black eye once in a while, all while remaining the more mature bigger man, don’t become a cop.

You have to pick your battles. Is keeping your guns worth dying over? That's an individual decision.

If I went to the Smoky Mountains and poked a bear in the ass with a sharp stick, is the bear at fault for my subsequent mauling, or am I a dumbass who got what he deserved?
No different with cops. They don't have all those weapons on their belt for decoration.

As for being willing to take a beating as a cop, that's complete BS.
Would you be calm if you were working at your current job and someone walked up and punched you in the mouth? Would you talk them down, or would you monkey stomp them?

You going to be a subject or a citizen, call we all have to make.

And if I only had a 2yr AJ degree, no other good prospects outside of maybe unskilled labor, sure I’d take some hits for six figures and a pension. Most would, which is why there are more applicants for those jobs than openings. But if you can’t handle keeping your composure after someone hits you, maybe that general labor job would have been a better fit, or at least play the part till you get off probation and are a full fledged union backed cop I guess.

I also know a few cops, shot with a few, drove around with a few, most arnt really gun people or for that matter car people, most of what gives cops their edge is a mind game, which is fine and much easier from a HR recruiting and training stand point.

Sadly the industry has become too much us vs them, I don’t think it’s sustainable for them, even with how BLM completely shit the bed when they had the public eye, police reform is still a very top of the pile subject, much to my surprise, I thought BLM was going to get more people pro cop, of course the covid “lock downs” didn’t help the police state much ether. Oh well

nope...I had to make a spread sheet to list his convictions: Two in the 1990's for cocaine (no time served), August 1998 ten months served for firearms robbery, April 2002 thirty days for trespassing, October 2002 eight months served for cocaine, 2004 ten months served for cocaine, 2009 conviction was for the 2007 incident of armed robbery where he held the gun to the pregnant woman's abdomen.

A cop's job is no different.
Almost all cops will give you the opportunity to go peacefully. Hitting a cop is no different than hitting a carpenter or bagger at the local grocery store.
All of them should stomp your ass for it.
Quit blaming cops for not quietly taking a beating, and put the blame where it belongs.
Shitheads who think they can do whatever they want w/o consequence, and maybe the parent(s) who raised them that way.

I would love to see a polygraph on that detective who said he didn't hear "I took too much drugs".

You submarine your own position.
Cops are the ones called to handle a bad situation. If the carpenter does get punched on the mouth, and doesn't beat the hell out of the shithead, he might call the cops to handle it.
Cops routinely deal with the worst society has to offer.
Everyone knows (or should) that cops are the ones to enforce the rules. If you have the cops called on you ,legitimately, you have overstepped the bounds of society in a big way.
Hitting a cop demonstrates you have already violated pretty basic rules of society, and you further disregard those who are trying to bring you back into the fold.

So, drunk drivers shouldn't be arrested until after they crash and hurt someone?
No, they should be arrested at the point at which there is probable cause. Just as the law stipulates.

Thought you knew this.

30% of the children in the SLPS do not have a fixed address. The ten year average for parent-teacher conferences is 5%. I don’t know what it is for both parents to attend, but my guess would be somewhere just north of zero. This is a 100% Democrat E is only one party and one politics, and that is one of theft, crushing success, and rewarding failure. The societal rot is so deep you would not believe it. These are a people who the Democrats have completely reenslaved in five generations to the point now where it’s self perpetuating. You have no fucking idea. There is no easy policy solution, and the more you try to experiment with what we know doesn’t work the worse it gets.

When the plebeians emulate the patricians you have a healthy society. When the patricians emulate the plebeians your culture is dying. That is where we are till there is a revival.
Witnessed a bit of this recently.
Made a trip to Shapiro metal supply and took the shortcut down from 270.
I'd imagine it must seem stark to leave this region into normal environs.
Makes it all the easier to sell the rich/poor game.

That’s definitely in the middle of it. Natural Bridge and Goodfellow. I would not drive through there at night, period.
