Accuracy International AT-X

What's with the hole in the scope cover in the X-Ring video at 2:30 mins ?
It helps with the depth of field issues and cut parallax offsets. Other than Sniper S*... you can use it to ensure you're clearing near range shit like a yucca leave or other obstacles like small branches while hunting. It is not as funky as one might think. Although that's a fairly large hole, it less effective as close, but it would be brighter.

We talk a bit about this in the tips and tricks thread here:

BTW 2021 November Team match signups are out. We are going to make it much easier this year.

Easy enough to watch the classifieds here. I would guess $500-$600'ish. It's a lot of supply and demand. There will probably be a bunch of new/used 6.5cm barrels for sale when the ATX starts getting out there. I picked up a new AI barrel for $600 and was happy to pay that, but seen some go for less.
Just curious why be heaps 6.5 barrels? Because you all shooting 6mm in PRS now? I really like the 6.5.

I think a lot of guys are shooting 6mm loads more often in comps these days. With 6.5 ammo and components becoming impossible to find of late it has even pushed myself to purchase a 6mm Creedmoor barrel lol.

The ATX is designed to be a competition rifle. I would assume there are going to be people buying them to compete with some sort of 6mm. I don't play the PRS game, so I'm basing my guess of what I read on here. I could be wrong, but we will see.

Ah ok. Yeah....Ammo situation sux for you guys!!

I based my choice of 6mm Creed off the heavy fact that I can still find 6mm Creed factory match Ammo at local stores and even stuff like 105gr Berger Hybrids compared to not being able to find anything for 6.5 Creedmoor. I see scalpers with 6.5 CM but haven’t seen any in stores in months. But I think the 6mm’s are much better suited to PRS style matches anyways

Just wanted to drop in and say hello and thanks to everyone at Accuracy International and the Hide. I just released a full length video on the rifle at the range. “X-Ring” on YouTube.
Just reading this thread and wanted to drop a line telling you great job on the video. Useful information. Been watching a while. Wish you continued success

Just watched those both. Very helpful like always 👍. Since you’ve had your hands on it I was interested in the results with the 6 Creedmoor barrel you threw on it. I really don’t plan on using the 6.5 Creedmoor barrel it comes with and already have a 6 Creed barrel on order to ship at the same time as the rifle. We’re the weights in barrels different or the same? You kept mentioning the weight of the 6.5CM barrel it comes with but not how that stacked up to the others (unless I missed it). What’s recoils feel like between the 6CM and the 6 Dasher out of that? Always appreciate your info, and thanks for the help
Finally got around to this. The factory AIAX 6.5 Creedmoor weighs 4lbs 8oz.
The AT-X. Pre-pro barrel weighs 5lb 7oz.
This is the difference in taper. Both start at 1.22” with the factory AX barrel stepping down to 1” about 1” past the shoulder.
At the muzzle, the Ax is .9130 and the AT-x is .9775

So the AI team prefers the straight triggers over the curved?

Alot of competition shooters do... Your not hiking it 10 miles to hunt big horn sheep at 12k asl.

All that extra weight helps stay on target through recoil

I think he's talking about the trigger shoe.

Curious how the lower bore will do against a proven current market chassis like the MDT ACC running the same action.

Well this was fun to see on their Facebook page. Here is to hoping bolts will be out in the next 12 months or less.

What would be the advantage/ if any of running this rig vs a custom for PRS environments.

I think I’ll be a poor, I can’t bring myself to let go of the LMT MWS; I’ll have to wait until Bonus Check season to get in on the AT-X

I keep wanting to justify this purchase when I think about having potential issues with a custom .....maybe the slight increase in expenditure (buying the AI) ....is buying piece of mind.
In all honesty customs have come a long way since that video was shot.

AI’s have a reputation for reliability and consistency even in less than ideal environments.

In PRS, prior to the ATX, custom chassis rifles had an advantage to AI with their design. Now AI has those features in their competition chassis on the ATX.

The only potential weak link I see in the ATX is the comp trigger. Some users have had issues with them and others swear by them.

I don’t have any interest in the ATX as my primary interest in precision rifles has little to do with PRS comps. I just want a rifle system that flat out works. My AT fits the bill.

Edited for clarity

Many times the "drop in" stuff doesn't really just drop in and requires some fitting or a different part to work correctly.

Some brands and parts work well together, others not so much.

If going custom, consider getting your CUSTOM gun pieced together exactly the way YOU want it by a competent smith.

Just be aware that by the time you add up all the parts and smith fees... you're pretty close to the price of the AT-X.

Pretty good price in all honesty for what you get IMO (new chassis)

I can see some people moving over to the new AI chassis when released with R700 inlet.

Until the other chassis brands have their new "lowered bore" models available.

The biggest problem I have seen with any R700 custom variant is feeding. Prone it works great, put out some tension on the mag or load the mag into a bag and everything goes south quick. Heck I have even seen things go south in AG Cup shooters mags in modified prone.

AI’s biggest pro, IMHO, in flawless feeding and ejection no matter what. That coupled with quickloc makes it my choice. There is a reason ARCs shoulder BarLoc is no longer around...

What reason is that?

This?

Please Read Before Ordering:
  • Some customers have reported a Point of Impact shift if the barrel is struck with a Barloc installed.
  • American Rifle Company has not fully tested what level of impact is required to cause a shift.
  • There are no safety issues. If this may be a problem for the intended use of your rifle, consider using a standard barrel nut or standard shouldered barrel and an action wrench to remove the barrel.

So while we are talking about consistent barrel changes check this out:

I zeroed my latest .308 tube this past weekend. I want to know the sight offset for my 6.5cm tube. I put it on and torqued the quick lock screw.
This is the 5 shot group I got:

first round was low the next four fell into a group .1 mil left. I haven’t shot this barrel in a while. IIRC this barrel has always thrown the first one low.

Before heading home I put my short .308 back on and torqued the quick lock screw. I fired 5 more rds through it to confirm all was well and that my zero was good. This is what it looked like:

I can’t complain.

What do you torque to. Just curious. I know AI says 55 others have said they do 60.

I use a 6NM fixit stick limiter which is 53 in lbs. AI recommends 5.5NM (49 in lbs)

I shopped around and found a fixit stick kit and torque limiter aimed at the bicycle market.

ETA: My shifts between barrels has always been consistent and less than 1 mil windage and less than 1.5 mil elevation. I was shocked these 2 were so close.
