In this thread we will discuss heavy bolt lift.

This will reduce bolt lift: https://deshind.com/product-category/bolt-lift-kits/ Added it to my Stealth 338LM and it works as it should.

    Action receiver/barrel thread length

"...short is good." Just curious why you think so. It would seem that a longer tenon would support the barrel better. The Steyr SSG's, for example, have longer tenons than the sporting versions of the same era.

    Action receiver/barrel thread length

Kirby Allen once wrote to me that he would never build his Raptor super magnum on a Ruger No. 1 because the tenon length was too short. So maybe there's some minimum length that matters?

Advice on Gunbroker rifle purchase gone bad

This is exactly why we have a small claims court. How could any responsible FFL examine a rifle shipped to them and do nothing when a bolt is nowhere to be found. The FFL should have contacted you and the shipper ASAP. They are responsible. Don't waste another second trying to determine who...

Rifle Scopes Disadvantages to higher rings

    Winchester 70 Bottom Metal

I replaced the alloy bottom metal on my 7mm WSM Coyote Light with a steel one from PTG a few years back. Fit and works perfectly.

    Remington 700 Purchase Advice

The 721/725/700 was revolutionary when it first appeared a zillion years ago. There are better designs out there now. If you want to customize of course the 700 is king because everyone makes everything for it. But if you are going to upgrade everything you should start with something...

    28 nosler

I can't imagine those bullets fitting well in a 7mm RM magazine. Since you already have the barrel ordered, you could 1 - sell the rifle as is 2 - buy a used 700 in 300 RUM 3 - buy a detachable box magazine (you were going to buy one anyway).

    Rifle Scopes Base and rings?

I have a 700 MLR and a Vortex 4-16 X 50 Gen1 scope, very close in all dimensions to what you have. I like to get the scope as low as possible because nearly every factory stock has to work with iron sights, so they are all too low when you mount any optic. Most of the setups I see are way too...

Rifle Scopes Vortex Pro series 30mm Rings

btw these are about the lowest Weaver/Picatinny 30mm rings out there.

    Gunsmithing Remington MLR Ejection

"We now offer a double radius cut ..." Thanks - now is this a modification to the extractor, receiver, or something else?

    Gunsmithing Remington MLR Ejection

Recently acquired a used 700 MLR (338 Lapua). Seems pretty accurate, came with a horrid trigger which I replaced with a Timney Calvin Elite. Only issue now is ejection. Fired cases do eject, but they just clear the rifle (that's fine). But loaded rounds fall back in the receiver. I replaced...

Gunsmithing Remington 338 Lapua Extraction Issue

Thanks ShooterwithNoName, I vaguely remember seeing that. I replaced the ejector spring with an extra power one from Wolff, seems to eject cases with a little more oomph. Have not tried a loaded round yet - I haven't made up a dummy and don't want to load a live round in my basement. The...

Gunsmithing Remington 338 Lapua Extraction Issue

Recently bought a used Remington 338 Lapua MLR, seems to have been lightly used. Extraction is weak, cases just clear the action. When I try to extract loaded rounds they just fall back into the gun. I bought a new ejector spring but haven't replaced it yet. This model has (I think) the more...

To 5R or not to 5R

I looked into this, the general consensus seems to be that 5R rifling didn't seem to help as long as it was from the same barrel source, Since most 5R barrels are from custom barrel makers, it's easy to see why they might have a good reputation for accuracy. I don't know where Remington gets...
