My browning has a 24" and factory loads come out at 3200 fps. The best hand load is about 2850-2900 (150 gr Barnes bullet). I vote for shortening and agree with working a new load up.

Re: New RRA 24" Varmint - upper wiggles on lower RockRiver prides themselves on some of the tightest machine work on the industry. Why don't you call them before you shoot it. Mine is tight and is easy to take down. Consistently shoots .5 moa with hand loads.

Re: chronograph Why? When you're working up a load and you're shooting a string of at least 5 rounds per charge, the standard deviation of the velocity is metric you can use to evaluate the shot-shot consistency of the velocity. You should see a pattern of your tightest groups on paper...
Re: Rock River Varmint A4 1/8 vs. 1/12 Twist ? I have the 20" 1:8 bbl and it really likes the Hornady 75 gr BTHP match bullets. It's a spectacular shooter.
