Hunting & Fishing Mountain Lion advice

Re: Mountain Lion advice I saw one about a month ago on my place, but of course I didn't have a f-ing rifle... I know some guys in west tx. though that hunt with dogs on horseback, and that only works if they know a cat is nearby. But I've baited a couple before and you just buy a frozen...

Range Report 338 lm going sub sonic before 1k??

Re: 338 lm going sub sonic before 1k?? Skipping has got to be the answer. You shouldn't have 22.25 moa at 1000 if it was on, and not keyholing at 800. You would probably be somewhere around 28-30 moa at 1000. I'm hitting 800 w/ 18.5 moa shooting 250 scenars in a light load, and at 1000 i'm at...

    Hunting & Fishing Which Gun?

Re: Which Gun? For 16 foot panels, you'll usually pay between 18-22$/panel, and those are 52" tall. For 1"x1"x1/8" angle iron, it'll run you about .90-1.00$/foot. It might run you as much as $150 for the whole trap, but you could probably do it for less.

    Hunting & Fishing Which Gun?

Re: Which Gun? That's a lot of freakin hogs for 5k acres! And you probably didn't even see half of em'! Our Gov't trapper comes out twice a year on helicopter hunts, and usually gets around 200/day on our 21 sections of land. We've got a lot of brush though, so they can disappear easily. Not...

    Hunting & Fishing Which Gun?

Re: Which Gun? Get a decent ar-10... that'll work just fine if your sick of your ar15. But if you really wanna make some money, get some angle iron, regular hog panels, and design some kind of spring loaded swing gate, weld it all up into a trap, maybe make 2 or three, then sour a bunch of...

    Finally hit the mile mark!

Re: Finally hit the mile mark! 225's? Damn, thats impressive at a mile. I'm workin with the 250 Scenars now, w/ 85 gr N165. They work great out to 1200 or so, with minimal wind. Gonna try the 300 bergers, SMK's, and Scenars when I finally get to the mile mark. Good shootin!

is a .22 ethical for small coyotes?

Re: is a .22 ethical for small coyotes? Who cares, they're coyotes... been battling them for 15 years on my ranch. Now, when calculating projected income from livestock sales, I factor in opportunity cost for livestock lost based on whether I hired a professional trapper (to keep yote'...

Hunting & Fishing On the topic of Pigs...

Re: On the topic of Pigs... They can be dangerous if not treated with respect, especially when cornered or wounded, especially big sows with suckling piglets. Those guys on the tv shows are a joke. They are scared of the hogs, and think they've solved the problem after catching one or two...
