In my experience the bipod studs get loose and eventually strip out. Fill them full of loctite and it helps. Other than that they are fine stocks. I think the LTR is a great design.
I prefer 8541's design. I've a few and will happily buy more once (if?) he starts making them again. I guess if doesn't, than I'll be ordering from Sage.
Any DBM that uses AI mags will have a wider footprint than the OEM BDL.
You may want to try a HS Precision DBM as it is a drop in fit. I believe Wyatt's may be also. This way if you do not like the feature, you can easily go back to BDL.
I had a similar problem. My issue was the firing pin spring. I bought a wolf to replace the OEM. It is rare that the springs wear out, but it does happen.
The way I see it is a BDL is just an ADL that can be cleaned and unloaded easily. Sure ADL is 'simpler' but how complicated is a hinge? Not like you're going to forget the hinge on the way out the door!
Better to have it and not need it...
I will talk you out of it- get an LTR instead :)
@ Deerhunter 28: The bolts come from the factory torqued at 45in/lbs. Many here torque to 65in/lbs, but beware, you may crack the pot metal trigger guard. I never did, though.
Thank you for all the feedback. I guess I will try with my regular gear and see how it goes. I have a woobie, so I will pack it for warmth when sitting (like I do for the stand!). Depending, maybe I will just up date my base layer.
