    Mauser 257 roberts

Looks like someone who knew what they were doing fit and finished the stock, it is nice. It looks like a Monte Carlo style that was popular back in the 70's and earlier. Shooting it standing, you should be able to rest your right elbow against your stomach and the palm rest fit well in your...

Gunsmithing Anyone ever build on a Remington 600 action?

600's make great lightweight rifles, both custom and as is. They had a reputation for accuracy, most likely due to Remington's quality at the time they were built and the fairly heavy barrel taper. The actions are identical to XP-100's, and few, if any, 700 action accessories or parts will...

Sportsman 78 This is what I had done with mine. Shilen No 7 barrel chambered in .30-06, McMillan HTG stock, PTG steel trigger guard assembly. I will say, it is for shooting, not for carrying. It's heavvier than I anticipated, may have to have the barrel fluted.

Gunsmithing Lathe chuck backing plate maching trouble

Re: Lathe chuck backing plate maching trouble If the surface is chilled iron, you will most likely need either a hot pressed ceramic or a CBN tipped insert to cut it, or ofcouse a tool post grinder. A good quality ceramic insert will work if there is not much porosity and no sand in the...

    Gunsmithing threading tools

Re: threading tools Bite the bullet, invest in a QC post and insertable tooling. It will be less expensive in the long run. Kennametal's Top Notch system works well. I have sold this system to several rifle builders thru the years. With the neagative lead angle built into the tool holder...

Gunsmithing A couple more machinist questions

Re: A couple more machinist questions SFM stands for Surface Feet per Minute. This is the speed at which the workpiece material is passsing the cutting tool edge. For a give diameter, the higher the RPM, the faster the SFM, because the workpiece material is moving past the cutting tool at a...

    Hinds Bipod

Re: Hinds Bipod What I found good about them was: Installed in an Accurate Arms stock with aluminum bedding block. The legs slide up into the stock to be out of the way, but always available. The quality of machining and construction of the assembly.

Rifle Scopes Super Sniper or Nikon Monarch

Over the years, I have had very good results with Nikon Monarch scopes, and am now looking for a scope for a heavy barrel .308. Maximum shooting range will probably be 300 yds. I have looked at the Super Sniper 10X, side focus, for $400, and can get a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10 X 43 with Mil-Dot...
